I'd welcome Friedel back with open arms. Not just because of nostalgia but because he's a better goalkeeper than Robinson, and if he can save us from dropping a few points then that could be vital come May. Age will eventually catch up with him, but he's not past it yet being the model pro that he is.

To sign Friedel, while letting Robinson go would be madness. Shorttermism at it worst. This only makes sense as Brad and Robbo fighting for their places, with Brad's experience being made use of elsewhere - i.e; replacing Mimms.

Don't know anything at all about King but I'd be a bit disappointed if his arrival meant Nunes didn't get a look in.

I think he looks extremely promising.

I can't see Berg having written the kid off, not after what I've seen so far anyway, that would be odd. Promising maybe an understatement Rev, to me he was very exciting.

Goalkeepers generally don't make great coaches or managers, in fact I cannot think of one who has been successful.

For some to suggest that Friedel should replace Robinson as first-choice goalkeeper is ludicrous.

Yet most teams have a goalkeeping coach who is, as a rule, an ex goalkeeper. Robinson has made some fantastic saves but overall I think he is just decent, his command of his area is non existent and he has his lapses the latest, I think, was Posh's goal he sort of half heartedly stuck out a hand. I wonder if some aren't looking at Brad at 41 and putting 2 and 2 together with the agility and mobility thing. To me he has looked very very good for spurs. I think he'd make a great coach.

If true, good old Henning! That will bring the fans back. never should have left us. Never forgiven Ince for that.

And ecstatic to see him on the coaching staff. Exactly the sort of leader we need and players can look up to. Nelsen should be next.

Surround the Club with people who care and we will go places!

He was right to leave us. Joined a better team, then an even better team. Needed the money as he was bankrupt.

Many are saying that Robobbo not in great physical shape.

Then what the feck is Mimms doing - sack him as well.

A bit excessive.

Where does loyalty come into all this ?

Throughout Kean's reign, Robinson was one of the very, very few players who appeared to stand-up to Kean and, literally, spilt blood for the club (Wigan!), maintaining a very good rrelationship with supporters that few of the other players could be credited with during Kean's disastous tenure.

What did Friedel do ? Left the club he loved so much - maybe for an extra dollar, maybe because of Ince (Robbo stood firm with Kean !).

So I am bemused that many seem to be prepared to sacrifice a very good club man for Friedel, who, possibly, and would be in my eyes, could be classed as an opportunist who follows the dollar.

A bit more excessive.

Whilst that sounds lovely and all in an ideal world, it's a very naive suggestion (no offence Den). Primarily because Brad is already firmly in the fight for places at Spurs. There is no way in hell he will want to drop to the Championship just to fight for a place with Robbo. Furthermore, I'm sure Brad's wage at Spurs is decent. We will have to cover it. With Robbo already on a lot, that would be a big expenditure on wages just for the goalkeeper position. I can only envision this happening if Robbo leaves.

Brad coming in as goalkeeping coach/assistant manager as well as fighting for the first team spot, would cover two wages.

Jake Kean is rated very highly by Rovers and think he is the main reason why Rovers want to bring in Friedel and let Robinson go. Robinson has got many years left in him which means Kean wouldn't get a look in and would ultimately want to leave Rovers. Friedel would provide a short term solution for 18 months whilst helping Kean to develop and eventually take over as number 1.

Friedel is a future Rovers manager imo

You know, I have been thinking long and hard about Friedel today, whilst he has a great command of his 'Box' as Mercerman rightly pointed out, at 41, however dedicated and fit you may be, time catches up on you, I remember watching Neville Southall playing for a lower league team and it was sad to see such a great struggle as the years caught up with him, John Burridge was the same (though not in the same class) his age had caught up and was a shadow of his former self, indeed, Doncaster Rovers had Neil Sullivan, a decent keeper in his day, yet just looked very average as he approched the twilight of his career! Of course it could be argued Pat Jennings continued into his forties and did well but it would be, in my opinion, a massive gamble to bring in Brad as number 1, risk losing Robbo and no back up keeper!

We let a better one go in Frank Fielding, a true Rovers fan as well, but I understand he didnt want to play for Kean!!

Considering that odd points here and there this season could be vitally important, then for me it is an absolute no brainer to bring Friedal back to the club if it is in anyway possible. He is still top quality and much better than what we have at the moment.

Those saying he is past his best obviously do not watch PL football anymore and those saying he will suddenly disintegrate into a Paddy Kenny replica underestimate the dedication, fitness and professionalism of the player. Yes please.

Coach wages pale into almost insignificance next to player wages, especially goalkeeping coaches. I can't see him coming in as assistant manager as a goalkeeper. Too little of the right experience.

Brad left us to join Villa for what was it, 60k pw? A move to Spurs later, he will still be on a lot.

Don't know why people are so keen to replace a very good goalkeeper with one whose best days are behind him.

The problem with ageing goalkeepers is they seem they can go on forever and then they suddenly crack and start making glaring errors.

Friedel's way past his sell-by date and if he replaces Robinson we will have the problem of finding another keeper sooner rather than later.

So far past his sell by date that up until a few games ago he was the first choice keeper for a top 5 team in the premier league? Compared to a top 6 keeper of a championship team?

WHAT?? ManUtd were sniffing round in 2004 when he won Prem keeper of the year! He was here for 7 years ffs, how's he not loyal? He's THE best keeper we've had since Jack took over and in the top 3 ever for us (my 68yr old dad's opinion).

He was 36 even then, so he thought it was his last chance to win something by going to a then-better club in Villa. The Harry saw fit to take him to Spurs. In any case, he'd be coming here to help Jake Kean develop, not to take Robbo's spot. He'd take Robbo's place in Jan/summer and ease the transition for Jake Kean to come in. Brad is solid and it'd be a great move to have him here, if not for the uplift the fans still need.

I don't like Hendry particularly. Think he's a tosser, but if Berg sees fit to have him as coach, then fine by me. Ditto Friedel.

crazy to think that people dont want Brad back. Well 2 people really, Miserableman and Jim. forget that he is what 42, goalkeepers normally peak when they around 35 and onwards. That is almost retirement age for outfield players. Also Brad is still playing in the PL, and is not sitting on the bench, so at that level, it would be criminal for AVB to pick him, if he wasnt up for it

Bleeding Nora, for the umpteenth time someone said Friedel might be coming back as a No 2 / first-team coach and I said goalkeepers generally don't make good coaches / managers - which is true as they have been very few successful ones in football over the years. This did not mean he would not make a good goalkeeping coach, which of course he probably would.
