Steve Moss Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Pretty obvious what's going on here. Those against Berg being hired are handing out grief at every opportunity, it is that which is making them form their misguided opinions. +1 Berg is our manager. And a far better one than Kean. We need to back him 100%. Re: Friedel - could it be that Berg is looking for a leader? Seems we're kinda short in that department. That was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about this, that Berg wants some old head in that the younger players will listen to, who speaks his mind but with the clubs interest at heart, someone who will be "feared" when (defensive) errors are made and with a pedigree (& ability!) that commands respect. In other words: someone to lead the charge in our attempt to bring some repect and "arte et labore" back to this club. Whether its Friedel or someone else, I agree the squad needs a few leaders as Kean cleared them out. It'll be a few years before te damage is completely repaired. Seems to me that Berg is sorting out who and who is not commited to the cause, I expect more changes in the playing side in January Agreed.
gumboots Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Don't be so mard! Robbo's a professional isn't he? If he does need to move on then sulking will not help his ambitions one bit will it? btw.... I don't recall Friedels performances dropping when Spurs signed Lloret.... do you? If anything they improved. You've just quoted as true an utterence by a flaky journo in a Red Top newspaper ffs! Gordon, I don't want to be nitpicking but it's Lloris not Lloret - that's a resort in Spain
thenodrog Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 Gordon, I don't want to be nitpicking but it's Lloris not Lloret - that's a resort in Spain Thanks gumboots...... Maybe it's cos I stayed there about 30 years ago.
USABlue Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Wonder who will keep goal tomorrow ? According to Nicko in today's Mirror, Robbo had showdown talks with Berg yesterday once Rovers' interest in Friedel emerged. In all walks of life, if an individual feels unwanted or threatened, he/she is turned-off for a little while until he/she can get their head around the issue - it takes time. All this apparent aggravation is the last thing we need at this time with some key games coming up. IMO, it was unnecessary and could have been avoided and represents Berg's 2nd dropped b o l l o c k following the young lad revealing the team fiasco. Of course you would pull the negative out of it but from where I sat in front of my telly Robbo's half hearted attempt at Posh's goal might have been enough for the last straw in Berg's eyes. Anyway the flip side to your negative coin is a positive, I know you don't want to hear it BUT, would not a good pro see this as an inspiration, a reason to work harder, do more to try and prove he is still worthy of his place on the team. A less than consumate pro might sit down with the boss for a right good snivel. "apparent aggravation" is how you wouuld define trying to rebuild a team, if we wanted to avoid that we would still be where we were with scumbag running thigs. For Berg to get us where we want to be there is going to have to be more than a little aggravation. Those willing to work through it are the ones that will continue to pull on a Blue and White shirt, those that are not will be off to pastures new and that is how it should be. If Henning hurts a few feelings and bruises the odd ego so be it, it's what we need. You were one of the ones wanted an experienced McCarthy type do you not think that type of manager would not have come with some "apparent aggravation". You are really digging deep to find self serving excuses for not going back down to Ewood, at least that is my take. How will you detract from Berg if he does get us up?

I sense some apparent aggravation coming up in some future posts good post by the way USABlue, I firmy beilve that Henning is on the case's of the less commited ones, ps, I was posting this at the same time you posted above
USABlue Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Thenodrog - re your posts above. Usually, when a player is unhappy and wants to move on, there are lots of whispers and rumours circulating - it's almost inevitable given the agent's role in trying to find different opportunities. I haven't read anything anywhere nor heard any gossip, speculation that Robbo wanted away. In fact, given his personal circumstances, I wouldn't think he'd want to move away from North Yorkshire where he lives. I don'y know how much Friedel is on at Spurs but doubt it's less than £50k per week, so do you think he would be prepared to come here and drop say £1.3m between now and the end of the season ? So, I could only see further pressure on an, IMO, absurd Ewood wage bill. Yep, I'll run with Nicko's story on this and Martin Blackburn is on similar lines - both still have very good contacts in and around Rovers, including players. As I've stated earlier, IMO, this is an unnecessary rocking of an already unsteady boat. This isn't trying to pick holes in everything Berg does, as Tom M suggested. Football managers are highly paid, visible figures and it comes with the territory that every move is scrutinised. In the main, Berg has made a sound start but, again IMO, too many false moves and he could well be in trouble. Finally, if this is about saving money as you think might be possible, Berg needs to man up and dispose of at least one of Brunskill, Black and Hendry and tell Mrs D that she needs to get rid of one of Singh, Shaw or Agnew. That would be a start. Surely their combined salaries are a pittance compared to one or two of our players?
bluebruce Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Surely their combined salaries are a pittance compared to one or two of our players? Not to mention it costs to fire them, and to bring in replacements. Unless you just want literally no management structure or coaches.
USABlue Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Blackburn: Henning Berg dismisses Brad Friedel speculation http://www.bbc.co.uk...tball/20468914? Now THAT concerns me a bit, why you not all over it Mercerman.
rovermagic Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 There are too many weaknesses in the squad such as lack of a decent forward to support Rhodes and no dominating centre half. The "best squad" in the league" was totally dominated by Palace and struggled to get a point off lowly Brum.
Amo Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 Now THAT concerns me a bit, why you not all over it Mercerman. Why? It's what Berg DOESN'T say that gives the game away.
Black Burn Posted November 24, 2012 Posted November 24, 2012 I may disagree with Merceman, but I think everyone is being far too harsh on him. He's not being overly negative, there are valid reasons why he thinks the way he does. He is sharing his opinions with us honestly, but I personally do not think he deserves to be slagged off as being overly negative. By the way, for anyone thinking Shebby Singh is an idiot who has absolutely no clue about English football, this guy has this to say. http://www.skysports.com/opinion/story/0,,27032_8213320,00.html I don't know if it's true or if it will change anyone's mind, but I'll just put it up here and leave the conclusions to everyone. I hope you'll continue to post honestly, Mercerman. Please do not be deterred even if other people think you come across as being negative.

"he told me the Venkys spotted his talents while working as a TV pundit" - no BB, that's totally changed my opinion, I got it all wrong. We are indeed blessed to have Shebby at BRFC. How lucky are we that John Williams was forced out.
