J*B Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I've been asked to help find someone a laptop - but to be fair I'm not much good at identifying the decent ones. So I'd like you folks over in the technology corner to do all the hard work for me! Limitations: Has to be from PC World (previous laptop was stolen from a house, and has been replaced by insurance with PC World vouchers) £430 vouchers to go at, but under budget would be fine. Won't see much 'hard' work, literally will be used for Skype, printing and general Internet surfing.

Kamy100 Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 I'd wait a few days for the Boxing Day sales at PC World.
Kamy100 Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I am going to buy a laptop, have narrowed it down to the models below, would be interested in getting some opinions as to which one is better: http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_N55SL-S1188V_1338594.html http://www.simplyasus.com/ASUS_N56VM-S4034V_1218891.html
Stuart Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I think I'd go for the first one one account of the extra 4gb of RAM.
AspRover Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Depends really. The second one has a significantly better CPU - http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ rates the i7-2670QM at about 6000 and the i7-3610QM at about 7500 (higher is better), but to be fair both are extremely good. The extra 4gb of RAM is also very good, but it's not like the other one is lacking at 8gb. Other than that they look to be pretty much the same machine. SO you're down to what is more important, RAM or the CPU.
Kamy100 Posted December 29, 2012 Posted December 29, 2012 Thanks guys. I have gone with the better CPU, I can always upgrade the ram should I need 12GB.
