Backroom Tom Posted April 16, 2013 Backroom Posted April 16, 2013 Well in a few hours we may know a lot more Best case scenario is we go 4 points clear with 3 games remaining for other teams Worst case is we go second to bottom with just 4 tough games to turn it around and some of our rivals out of reach All too many times this season has that worst case scenario come about so we should come to accept it

Tyrone Shoelaces Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Well in a few hours we may know a lot more Best case scenario is we go 4 points clear with 3 games remaining for other teams Worst case is we go second to bottom with just 4 tough games to turn it around and some of our rivals out of reach All too many times this season has that worst case scenario come about so we should come to accept it First and foremost we need to win. We'll worry about other games and teams after that.
moerpho Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Won't bother trying to predict the outcome of our match, but a few things about our "rivals" at the bottom of the table: - Wolves vs Hull: Hull have won their last 3 matches away and seem to be in better form away than home. A win tonight against a Wolves side sorely lacking thanks to suspensions and injuries will in my opinion more or less mean they're promoted - Peterborough I hope and think will share the points with Brighton - on red hot form though so will probably win... - Barnsley vs Derby - both got a humiliating tonking saturday...Derby got beat by us no less and Barnsley lost big to Charlton...so...impossible to call (like so often in this league) I'm guessing there will be alot of nerves tonight and not many goals. Something tells me it will be more or less status quo after tonights fixtures and expect at least a couple of draws for the bottom teams. I really hope some of our players have located their balls, footballbrains and hearts for this one and that we can steal another 3 points. Still think who is relegated won't be decided until the final round (apart from Bristol C perhaps).
Backroom Tom Posted April 16, 2013 Backroom Posted April 16, 2013 And there you have it, it's not much clearer at all but it is marginally better and on the most basic terms climbing above another team means its one more team that needs to better our results over 3 games to overtake us
rovers11 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 So, results didn't go for us again tonight but the most important thing is that we won and look like a team again. We probably need 2 or 3 points from 4 games to survive but it could well be 4 more. Barnsley have really blown it. Two very winnable home games and they only pick up 1 point. They will struggle to stay up with Forest, Hull and Hudds left to play. Absolutely fluffed it. Wolves had a great and unexpected result tonight. Two points behind us still. Could beat Charlton and Burnley. Brighton will be tough. Can see them getting 4 or 6 points which would take them to 55 or 57. Peterborough have Derby away which is tough. Should be sheff w at home and a draw or win at Palace. 4 or 6 points = 55 or 57. Huddersfield have two winnable home games. Expect them to beat Barnsley and Millwall. Probably lose to Bristol City away. 57 points. Still think we could need 57 points to survive this season so work to be done still.
jim mk2 Posted April 16, 2013 Author Posted April 16, 2013 A chink of light for us but we could have done without Wolves winning. BTW Pompey went down to the fourth division tonight, another warning of the inevitable outcome when clubs are badly mismanaged.
Proudtobeblue&white Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 PS, well done Cardiff - controversial foreign owners, changed shirt colour ffs, but perhaps Mrs Donut could learn summat!
Salgado Is A Hero Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 I can see Wolves winning some more, same with H'field. Win at Watford and we can maybe start to feel a little optimistic. At the moment I'm not even cautiously optimistic. In each round of fixtures, at least one of them will pick up maximum points. Maybe 2/3 or them. We have to win ourselves.

Rovers should be more than optimistic. You won't go down, your defence is pretty solid and you have a goal machine up front. This league is ridiculous though.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Rovers should be more than optimistic. You won't go down, your defence is pretty solid and you have a goal machine up front. This league is ridiculous though. Exactly.
Baz Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 Well done to Cardiff, a couple of lively derby games in the Prem next year. Hope they win the championship by beating Dingles on Saturday too. Looking at the other results thank god we won tonight. 4 more points I think should be enough.
SergioPeter89 Posted April 16, 2013 Posted April 16, 2013 An norwegian article about the relegation drama. It's in norwegian but I think it's possible to translate it via Google Translate. Looking at the run in I think that Burnley should be very afraid. http://championshipnorge.com/?p=1280
RevidgeBlue Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 PS, well done Cardiff - controversial foreign owners, changed shirt colour ffs, but perhaps Mrs Donut could learn summat! Cardiff have current debts of 83m according to Gerald on Radio Rovers tonight. Never heard that before.
RevidgeBlue Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Rovers should be more than optimistic. You won't go down, your defence is pretty solid and you have a goal machine up front. This league is ridiculous though. Yup, insane. Seven points between ninth place on 58 points and the relegation places on 51 points! The reason imo is the fact that the standard of the League is so damned poor. None of the teams near the top are appreciably any better than the teams at the bottom with the possible exception of Cardiff. As evidenced by Wolves beating Hull last night. Best thing about last night was the fact we dragged all the teams on 54/5 points into the mix. Burnley couldn't go could they, or is that too much to hope? We still have a bit to do but I think at worst 57 will be absolutely safe barring a significant swing in goal difference. We could do with winning one of the two upcoming away games. Fancy us at Watford more than Millwall who seem to have the Indian sign over us. Perhaps this thread should be re-named 9th place or relegation?
Backroom Tom Posted April 17, 2013 Backroom Posted April 17, 2013 Huddersfield have Millwall at home on Saturday whilst us, Wolves (Charlton), Barnsley (forest) and Posh (derby) are all away. Knowing the way it's going all those teams around us will win again! On the final day of the season Huddersfield take on Barnsley which could be a tasty affair and almost certainly at least one of the teams will need to take something from it. 2 wins would see us absolutely safe but that is a big ask still
USABlue Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I can see Wolves winning some more, same with H'field. Win at Watford and we can maybe start to feel a little optimistic. At the moment I'm not even cautiously optimistic. In each round of fixtures, at least one of them will pick up maximum points. Maybe 2/3 or them. We have to win ourselves. I know I've been terribly terribly pessimistic and I have got the last two results 100% wrong but I am sticking with it. Too many of the bottom teams are winning. We will lose at Watford based on the fact they are on a bad run. It's what we do we fix what ails other teams. Palace is another one on a poor run and we have them coming up. I still really fear for us. PS, well done Cardiff - controversial foreign owners, changed shirt colour ffs, but perhaps Mrs Donut could learn summat! Yes but they did do one thing right. They hired a good manager. These @#/?s best not get any ideas about changing shirts either.
rovers11 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 No safe yet but given ourselves a great chance with back to back wins. One more win will probably be enough, 4 points will most certainly be enough with our superior goal difference. My only concern is that there is a very real chance we could be back in the bottom 3 on Saturday evening. Wolves have Charlton; Peterborough have Derby; Huddersfield have Millwall. They are all very winnable games for those teams.
LeChuck Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Yes but they did do one thing right. They hired a good manager. Exactly. Same with Southampton and, to a lesser extend, Nottingham Forest. Interfering owners who make rash decisions, but the right managerial appointment will hide a multitude of sins. If anything Cardiff and Forest's owners have meddled with the club more than Venky's. That's why there's always some vague hope that it could work at Rovers, even with Venky's still here. Obviously that requires them to choose a good manager to begin with, in which I have no confidence whatsoever. Surely the law of averages means they're due to get a half decent one soon though, even if by pure luck?
G Somerset Rover Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 That's why there's always some vague hope that it could work at Rovers, even with Venky's still here. However even if we did, he'd end of getting potted after a couple of average results!
Gally Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I can see just the one point being enough because of our goal difference. It'll mean that all three teams behind us need to get 4 points from 3 games (or Barnsley winning two) which is possible but a pretty big ask.
Guest Norbert Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 And he'll be sacked after falling out with Shebby after a dispute over whether to play any of the Portugeezers and Murphy.
majorstyre Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Its going to take a record points score for anybody to be safe.... these are the "survivors" over the last 20 seasons or so.... 2011/12 48 Barnsley 24 in division 2010/11 48 Doncaster 24 in division 2009/10 49 Crystal Palace 24 in division 2008/09 51 Plymouth Argyle 24 in division 2007/08 53 Coventry City 24 in division 2006/07 49 Hull City 24 in division 2005/06 50 QPR 24 in division 2004/05 50 Crewe 24 in division 2003/04 51 Gillingham 24 in division 2002/03 50 Stoke 24 in division 2001/02 49 Rotherham 24 in division 2000/01 49 Crystal Palace 24 in division 1999/00 49 WBA 24 in division 1998/99 47 Port Vale 24 in division 1997/98 49 QPR 24 in division 1996/97 48 Bradford 24 in division 1995/96 52 Portsmouth 24 in division 1994/95 54 Sunderland 24 in division 1993/94 51 WBA 24 in division 1992/93 50 Sunderland 24 in division 1991/92 50 Oxford United 24 in division 1990/91 50 Leciester 22 24 in division 1989/90 50 Middlesbrough 21 24 in division 1988/89 47 Hull City 21 24 in division 1987/88 47 WBA 20 23 in division 1986/87 50 Birmingham City 19 22 in division 1985/86 49 Blackburn 19 22 in division 1984/85 40 Middlesbrough 19 22 in division 1983/84 47 Oldham 19 22 in division 1982/83 47 Grimsby 19 22 in division 1981/82 46 Bolton 19 22 in division Average = 49.03 PTS last time (only time!!) somebody needed 54 points was the year when we won the prem title.... we need another 3 points at a minimum i reckon, following from last nites results... its a damn good job we have picked up maximum points over the last two or we could be pretty much down !! i am worried that we may struggle to get any points away.... which would mean beating Palace at home..!!....wouldnt like to put my house on that
USABlue Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 The way terams at the bottom are picking up results there is no telling what it will take right now. I agree with GB when he was asked about a points target. "To be above the dotted line"
Ossydave Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Amazed you can still get 25/1 on Burnley going down, they're on a bit of a slide especially with no Austin to bail them out....... LUMP ON!
