[Archived] Boycott Bristol City Cup Game - AFC Darwen Instead

Recommended Posts

There was a similar topic a couple of weeks ago but it has more meaning now.

I, like the vast majority of our support, am sick to the back teeth of Venky's and the way they are systematically destroying our club.

When there were protests in the attempt to get Kean out of the manager's seat, I thought this was the way to go. Unfortunately only a very small percentage of Rovers fans bothered to get involved and the real hurt for Venky's was the fact that thousands of our supporters simply decided to stay away.

I am suggesting that en masse we boycott the Bristol City 3rd round FA Cup game and turn up at AFC Darwen instead.

In the long term I am not really sure what this will achieve, probably nothing, but short term it will show the buffoons in India that they have no backing whatsoever for their current way of doing things.

In short it will simply make me feel better seeing an empty Ewood Park and a bumper crowd at The Anchor Ground, especially if the press get wind of this with reports and photographs etc. Wear blue and white, take flags and Venky's Out banners.

Never has a local club been so hurt as Darwen following the last twenty odd years of success down at Ewood. It would be a great gesture from the Rovers support. A gate of 50-80 at Darwen is the norm so if a few hundred extra turned up they would be absolutely delighted.

If this gains momentum, Darwen would have to be informed as they may have to put on extra staff, get more food and drink in etc.

Anyone up for this?

Fair play to you but I think most, myself included will just not bother going anywhere

I've no interest in watching non league football that means nothing to me

I'm not sure it will count as a boycott but there will be less than 5k in Ewood

The club is in need of a good cup run to lift the gloom and we don't need any more bad press than at present!... However I see your point but would NEVER turn my back on my team!

Yes, every team needs a good cup run but we're already at the stage where we need to focus on league position without other distractions.

Bad press? Who gives a flying one? We are the laughing stock of English football and the majority of the press dislike us anyway.

Turning your back on your team is not ideal. Sometimes, however, you need to lose a few battles in order to win the war.

You'd be far better off being outside the ground chanting away during the match. Go to Ewood but don't go in and sing away. Try and stop (obviously not aggressively) people going in, flyers explaining the reasoning using highlighted points on flyers from SS. BRAG have had plenty of dialogue use it for the flyers as we all know what a 'talker' SS is. Judan Ali is the perfect start to new protests, use it BRAG and force things home as this is a opportunity to generate sympathy for the cause. We've been too timid so far, it needs to become more than before. The scousers showed us what was needed, yes it was brutal but the burning incident was what got them new owners who wanted to show that Americans could do good.

I've got no interest whatsoever in going to Ewood, but the same applies to Darwen too.

I wasn't suggesting Darwen simply for something else to do like going to the pictures or for a meal or something. :xmas:

It will give Darwen a much needed financial boost, give the footy addicts a fix and more importantly, highlight our protest at the way the buffoons are destroying our club. At some point we've got to make Venky's sit up and change the way they do things.

As the saying goes, when good men do nothing...........

You won't stop people going in, they will have paid for a ticket because they want to go in (god knows why). I can definitely see a sub-5k crowd though.

There is absolutely no point in going to a single Rovers match again. The Bristol City match should be boycotted, but so should all future Rovers fixtures.

Those of us who already have tickets, you expect us to just tear them up?

Yes, unless you're happy watching Judan Ali and Shebby Singh's blue & white army.

Won't be going to AFC Darwen, but I won't be going to the cup game either.

Sadly, we won't get a total boycott - even to make a point - because there are people who don't know what's going on; people who don't want to know what's going on; and people like claptrap, who can see what's going on but believe they are some kind of superfan - and it's more important to be able to say "I was one of the 1,802 who went on at Bristol in the FA Cup".

I have long said that the fans not supporting the club will be the death of it and we shouldn't let them take it away from us but an organised conscious one-off boycott of this game would have my full support.

Some kind of visibile protest in the ground should take place on New Years Day too.

Those who go on New Year's Day should stand up and turn their back on the pitch at 2 minutes, for 2 minutes.

The number of years it has taken Venkys to destroy our club.

Sadly it seems people are just turning their backs on the club, and walking away

I remember a few seasons ago on a Saturday morning my phone would ring constantly with people asking if I knew anyone with a spare ST for the game, funnily enough the calls don't arrive as much now!

I'm going to Barnsley tomorrow, mainly because my pal is over from Australia for xmas and he wants to attend a few games.

You're right but greater awareness of what has gone will be created amongst those who don't do forums etc. More people need to be made aware of what the likes of SS et al are and have done.

Oh I agree completely, I just think a cup game isn't the right time to plan some kind of boycott as people have bought a ticket specifically for that game. At a league match the majority will be season ticket holders and I dare say more people will be willing to give their ticket up for one game.

Given that Comical Ali hasn't been appointed yet, and Agnew / shaw have flown out to Pune, I'm clinging onto hope that shebby isn't going to get his way.

The moment Comical Ali is appointed as a first team coach, I will be going to watch my town team Darwen and will boycott rovers.
