I'd be happy enough with Sven considering the options we have been linked with

I don't think we can do better at the moment and if Cryers tweets are true then he clearly wants it.

Just don't think he meets Shebbys/Venkys list of what we need. Otherwise surely they would sign him up quickly.

He should just tell them he met Ronaldinho when he knocked us out of World Cup 2002

I thought he didn't mean it?

I guess Sven would fall into the category of "f##k it, it could have been worse".

But he failed at Leicester and according to their fans, it was because he didn't understand what it took to win games in this division.

Experienced yea, but it was years ago when he was doing anything of note.

If Bowyer does alright in the next couple of games, I'd rather have him tbh.

agreed rovers fans need to accept someone like sven would be a big step up, what the hell do they want, guardiola? mourinho?

Someone with a decent track record in the championship.

Sven failed in the championship.

I'm not interested in big names. I'm interested in experience at our current level.

It's quite simple, really.

He had a win % of 43% at Leciester, which isn't bad. They were 13th when he left, but it was only 13 games into the season and they were still only 2 points off the playoffs at the time.

According to Wikipedia (I know, I know) he doesn't have a win percentage any lower than 40% at any club he's managed, except Fiorentina in the late 80's. Compared to our last two managers he might as well be Alex Ferguson.

Can't believe I'm actually making a case for Sven... but I'm pretty sure we can't do any better considering the owners and the club's reputation.

Posted

He spent a lot though....I remember reading at the time that the club (both the higher-ups and the fans) felt they should be challenging for automatic promotion.

Like I said earlier though, the fans said he wasn't experienced in this league and it wasn't what they needed.

It's the same for us, I'd rather have an experienced play-off manager like Billy Davies than a bigger name.

I think Sven would do ok for us and he's better than the names linked. He may only have had a record or 43% with Leicester but let's face it if Kean was still in charge, we'd jumping over buildings to get him replaced by Sven.

I think we couldn't do a lot worse, yes there are better Championship managers out there band I'd gladly take Davies or O'Driscoll but as far as I know they are not coming forward saying they want to work for Venky's. Sven is.

Don't get me wrong, I'd also rather go for Davies, O'Driscoll or even Curbishley... but I don't think we have any chance of getting them.

Posted

That's probably true.....in fact there's even a chance they're willing and we don't even bother going for them.

A bit like when Kean was replaced with Berg, if it is Sven I'm gonna console myself with the fact that he isn't Judan Ali.

Maybe I read it wrong but Did'nt Cryer say it was Kentaro pushing Sven??

End of discussion tbh unless you want more Bruno's and Anderson's, an outdated manager is an agents favourite.

Cryer tweeted that SEM had contacted Rovers on Svens behalf. Sven had been doing some work for SEM according to Cryer. Rovers fans wanting Sven here obviously want the delightful Jerome back too. Cryer saying 'not a chance' will it happen. I hope he's right. Have a read of these articles:-

Sorry

Whilst the topic was on the real reasons for players leaving all I was saying was I was surprised that Jason Roberts found himself on the outside so to speak as whilst on the mid season trip to India in 2011 Jason would dine with Steve Kean and Scott Dann whilst the rest of the team would eat together. I had always presumed after that that he was one of Keans allies

Cheers pal I didn't want to appear pedantic but your post is totally understandable now

Imo Sven was exposed as a conplete fraud when he failed miserably with the most talented group of footballers anyone could wish to manage in 2004.

Since then from what I can see he hasn't been remotely successful anywhere he's been since, but he seems to have an uncanny ability to bs his way into one high paid job after another on the strength of being a former England manager. Before doing a half arsed job and departing with another huge severnce cheque in his back s

He's certainly an extremely smooth operator who seems to thrive by being everyone's friend, never upsettingng anyone, never say anything controversial never rocking the boat. In that respect he'd be ideal for Venky's. He'd sail serenely through any internal turmoil at the Club giving the impression he was barely aware it ever existed and come up smelling of roses.

But a genuine love and enthusiasm for the game? Real football knowledge and insight? You get that impression with other grandees of the game of Sven's age but not him. He's just playing the game counting down the days to the next big pay off.

in 2004, we were going great, we played portugal, the host nation and but for a last minute equaliser we would have been into the semis, our talisman rooney went off with an injury and we were denied a campbell header which clearly should have stood and then the lottery of penalties, which we have always failed miserably, 3 quarter finals is a pretty good achievement for an england manager.

Posted

Bare minimum I would say.....if you didn't get to the quarter finals, you lot would be up in arms.

Don't really know how good for you he was overall (I only watch you at tournaments and nothing under Sven really stood out, positive or negative), but I usually here good things.....maybe it's just because he came before McClaren though......also that goal was rightfully disallowed IIRC.

SEM connections, failed at Leicester, no real motivation besides money (was at Notts County).

I know we want an experienced manager but just like with Taylor, experience isn't everything and maybe a lesser experienced option would be better.

I was pretty sure Sven Erikkson did well at Manchester City before they replaced him with Mark Hughes, he did the double over Alex Ferguson during his only season in charge. But if Shebby Singh is reading this, he must be throwing his hands up in exasperation.

"First they tell me experience is of utmost importance after the disaster with Henning Berg, and now when an experienced manager approaches us, fans don't want him either and would rather less experienced managers because of Sven's season with Leicester! Can't make up their mind, the bloody lot of them!"

Well, I'm pretty sure no one cares about his opinion anyway, but this ends up justifying his statement, "even you fans can't decide among yourselves what manager you want, what more me?" If it's any consolation, Shebby Singh doesn't rate Sven Erikkson at all, and was pretty critical of him during his tenure at England. Then again, Shebby Singh was critical of everybody when he was a pundit. -___-

thought a scotsman might say that, i suppose gary mcallister should have been able to take that penalty again at euro'96, after all the ball did move ^_^

Apart from experience which Sven obviously has you look at the attributes that you would have thought the next manager would need to be successful:

Hungry

Able to motivate the players

Needs to wheel and deal amongst our massively bloated squad and not simply rely on an open chequebook

Tactically astute

Needs to be his own man and not tolerate any interference from the owners or Singh in footballing matters.

....... and I would say Sven is the exact opposite on everything. He might still be able to do a job of sorts at a PL Club who have stacks of money to spend and a host of big name players whose egos need massaging.

Posted

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before, but Henning Berg himself has already stated that Shebby Singh did not interfere in team selection and matters, and that he was in absolute control of everything. Yet people are still saying that Shebby Singh interferes in team selection, etc? Well, disbelieving Shebby Singh is one thing, but I don't think Henning Berg was lying when he gave that interview.

Since nobody is going to believe me, will accuse me of spouting rubbish or being pro-Shebby Singh, or demand for the article, I'd better paste it down here. Henning Berg makes all the footballing decisions with no interference with Shebby Singh, the words coming from the man himself.

Eriksson has not denied his interest in the job but described his being linked with the position as “speculation and rumour” at this stage.

He said: “There are rumours and they are nothing real.

“I’ve not been contacted by Blackburn, so I really don’t know what they are doing. So it’s speculation and rumour.”
