Why would Appleton move just two months after joining Blackpool?, it's very odd. I also don't understand what makes him a stand out candidate when there's much better on offer. I will be seriously p!issed off if we go for him, Bowyer is looking a much better option at the moment.

Why are people surprised that we are looking at B&M Bargins and Home Bargins, netto managers. This is Venkys Chicken here not Nando's .

It is an obvious good point.

But the thing that surprises me is that they will most likely lose more money by going for a second rater. If they pushed the boat out and made concessions to e.g. Hughes, they would have a better chance of getting back into the PL, and recouping (sorry for the pun) some of their losses.

Getting Appleton would obviously send out the signals that getting back into the premier league is not what they intend for Blackburn Rovers football club.

A lot seem to be happy with the idea of Davies, but for me he's nowhere near good enough for what we need.

Whats that based on? He promoted Derby and almost promoted Forest and Preston. We have a better squad than all 3 of those clubs had. He's an absolute top drawer manager for this division. Those turning their noses up at him are I would suggest still living in an era where we're a Premiership club.

Appleton's record is shocking - average win ratio of 23%!

Which because he was at pompy who sometimes could barely scrape a team together last season and had to put an entire squad together late in the transfer window at start of this season is quite high.

At Blackpool so far his win ratio is 18%......

Let's look at Appleton.

Rated extremely highly by Roy Hodgson and others at WBA.

Walked into a nightmare at Pompey and didn't shirk but just got on with what was a thankless task.

Short time at Blackpool, Oyston notoriously difficult to deal with. Record is still twice as good as Berg's at Rovers with 13 points from 11 games.

Seemingly, he's also very highly rated by figures in football who 've won a pot or two - hopefully, Kelbo will tell you more.

Sounds like a down to earth bloke who talks honestly and tells the supporters how it is.

So, I think favourable in comparison to likes of Davies, Brown, Taylor, Dickov etc.

So what?! That proves nothing. Pompey are in freefall and were under a transfer embargo for the majority of his time there - What matters is whether he is the right man for the job, unfortunately we can only know the answer to that question once a risk has been taken. Saying that, I'd rather Appleton to some of the clowns mentioned. With Bowyer as his number 2 we can rebuild and go up next year.

Oh and you do realise wikepedia can edited by anyone who owns a computer and has an internet connection? Let's change his win percentage to 100% so you can sleep easily tonight!

My choice as well. I really do think he is the stand out option at this time. Proven at the level we now play, proven at the higher level should he be successful, very good man manager and someone who would immediately bring some class and lasting quality back to proceedings.

Hard to disagree or argue with his Championship record, but looking further ahead I am not sure he would or could last at the club and a temporary stop gap soon to leave is not what we require. He is a cantankerous guy and it is his way or the high way. I doubt he will even be considered for these reasons alone.

So Venkys want someone with experience of not fielding a team????

I know nothing about Appleton, could be an excellent appointment but have Venkys learned nothing?? Another experiment, Rookie, one for the future?? I really fear for us under Venkys!! nothing has worked for them up until now, so what do they do?? carry on in the same way!!

What makes you say that?

Hard to judge Appleton given the clubs he's been at. But just as he could be an excellent managing wrestling with impossible jobs, he could conversely be a gash manager doing a bad job in a bad situation.

If he's cheap no doubt the indian hillbillies will be interested. But you get what you pay for. Only substantial investment, administrative re-structuring, squad re-building and transfers out and a decent experienced manager with a track record will get this club out of this division.

That is the bottom line.

Do Venky's have the nous, intelligence, contacts, personnel, wherewithal, willingness and resources to initiate these badly-needed changes?

Of course they @#/? well don't. They'll do a bodge job with minimum money and hope for the best. And when it inevitably comes crashing down around their ears, they'll look for a scapegoat to carry the can and an even cheaper replacement for them.

So you can forget all this talk about Curbishley, Poyet, etc, anyone decent. They'll either not be interested or won't come up on Venky's radar.

Appleton is a rookie, a gamble, we don't know what he's like as a manager Portsmouth was an impossible job and it's very early days at Blackpool. The fact that we seem to be in the rookie/lower league market shows how low we have sunk.
