Why would Appleton move just two months after joining Blackpool?, it's very odd. I also don't understand what makes him a stand out candidate when there's much better on offer.

Such as ? And please don't say Curbishley.

I'll be seriously underwhelmed if we end up with Appleton.

Poyet would be a good choice, but like philipl points out, it seems like they don't know how to get their man - as if paying compensation for managers under contract isn't the norm...

I think oyston would want compensation so that would rule Appleton out as well

I work with a Pompey season ticket holder and even in their current state he never rated Appleton. Tactically he bemused many Portsmouth fans and always seemed to leave substitutions too late to affect the game. From the little i did see of Pompey under his management, i would say he got them to have a right good go at teams. But then thats an easy tactic when you've got sod all to lose.

I would be disappointed if he gets the gig because time and time again Singh, Venky's etc... have been told to go with experience. There is no gaurantee of success in football, but playing the odds would indicate an older and wiser head is what is called for and would most likely deliver the goods over another risky young manager cutting his teeth. I mean maybe i'm doing Venky's a disservice. Maybe they have expored those avenues only to discover anyone who has been in the game long enough to mould a decent side and unite an unhappy fan base is also wise enough to know to not to touch Rovers with a sh!tty stick!

Tired of this:

1. A name is mentioned on Twitter

2. The board explodes in rage

3. 'I'm done if he gets appointed'

4. He gets appointed.

5. You have to back the new manager, he is in charge and that is that RTID.

Let's go round again...

I can't believe people say 'I'll back whoever is appointed'. If Shebby appointed himself I'm pretty sure some of you would bang on about 'getting behind the lads'. Not many people realize it but Venkys have turned the fans we have left into an obedient although a little aggrieved bunch.

So what?! That proves nothing. Pompey are in freefall and were under a transfer embargo for the majority of his time there - What matters is whether he is the right man for the job, unfortunately we can only know the answer to that question once a risk has been taken. Saying that, I'd rather Appleton to some of the clowns mentioned. With Bowyer as his number 2 we can rebuild and go up next year.

Oh and you do realise wikepedia can edited by anyone who owns a computer and has an internet connection? Let's change his win percentage to 100% so you can sleep easily tonight!

You are right, it proves nothing! Win percentages mean nothing - sure he has shown outstanding potential even though he has never been successful in his career before.

Will be the perfect manager for when we inevitably go into administration.

"With Blackburn seemingly in disarray and Vale in contention for promotion under ambitious new owners, it seems somewhat unlikely that if approached, Adams would take the role."

I never thought I'd see the day that the Blackburn Rovers job couldn't tempt the manager of Port Vale to move, with all due respect to them. If true, obviously...

If I can answer for him, it's because he hasn't had the fire in his belly for quite a few years now. Plus, he's a southerner.

Southerners are fine in small doses....;)

I cannot comment on the 'fire in belly' issue as I do not know the guy well enough. If that is purely based on him being currently unemployed then a few on the list above could be levied with the same accusation against them.

To be frank a tramp eating roasted rat in the rain would think twice about working for the Venkys and with the three clowns
Gotta love the imagery!

Alliteration's not bad either.

Would have got a +1 in the good old days. :tu:

I wonder If this gives a clue?

Karl Oyston@SuperKarlOyston

Appy deal almost done but we've run out of P45s, thanks to our prudent stationery procurement budget. Might aswell get one for Stan too..

Great news for the club! Appy has walked and more compo is on its way to our ever more solvent accounts! #thirdtimelucky

Losing one manager is remiss, losing two in the space of 6 months is truly remarkable. Stability is the key! #VenkysAreClueless

Price has come in on Appy to Rovers - must be my Dad investing a portion of the Zabaxe money #soundinvestments

I'd, be slightly more than content with Appleton, being realistic no established and experienced manager would work well under the venkys(or even be selected to become manager by the venkys) as they are usually to set in there ways, Appleton seems to have a very good coaching pedigree(most managers start out as coaches, so I'm not having the "we'v just hired another coach as manager again argument") and he's served his time managing at a struggling lower league club(where I imagine he will have learned a hell of a lot), It was/is always going to be a promising rookie manager or a old mercenary.

SGE

Billy Davies

Owen Coyle

possibly Bowyer, already got a better record in the Championship.

and how is Alan Curbishley not a better option than Appleton?, just look at their records side by side.
