Not to mention Samba and Bentley who were rough diamonds that no-one else seemed to want. McCarthy, Roberts, SantaCruz, Ooijer all terrific and relatively cheap signings. Hughes will never be as good again as he was for us imo. Like Holloway at B'pool and Freedman at Palace, he just suited us then and there.

It's funny. My first 100 posts are so were received very positively, even by people who normally have nothing but anger towards me.

Amazing what a change of name can do - Initially!

Having said that you are not the most objectional poster on here. We just don't agree on much.

Which is fine. I do realise the amount of posts can rub people up the wrong way, however. People can put me on ignore though.

Its not the quantity, its the quality

I've never said to the contrary. My first 100 or so posts must have been filled with remarkable quality to attract such positivity in comparison to the posts I made since people realised who I was and under the Braddock alias.

As I said, feel free to block me.

Anyway, back to Appleton. How many years have we got him for?

Page after page of "You have this poster on ignore" is still annoying. If it simply eliminated your posts altogether I would put you on ignore.

Actually, Bradstics could post in great quantity and still be readable, if his posts had quality. The problem is the quality, not the quantity.

It's both.

And unfortunately "diddums" and "don't shoot your girlfriend" are representative.

Very impressed by Appleton.

At least after Two years of living hell it looks like the football side of Rovers is no longer set up like a rigged losing slot machine in a casino.

I'm impressed too.

I think he has stopped the slide into League One that was looking possible only half a dozen games ago (although it's still a VERY tight division in terms of points spread)

But I just wonder if by bringing in Appleton we've cemented our place as a mid-table Championship side. Although that is a glass half empty view considering they difference he's made to us even as fans already (the pride is ebbing back).

At Portsmouth he didn't stand a chance. you might be right and midtable championship might be his limit, but from what he has done already, he deserves a chance to see if he can take us higher. It's just good to have a manager where it isn't all about him in the paper and on the tv. It's great to have someone who talks sense instead of waffling about dew on the grass etc. Only downside is his voice and his looks don't go together - I want to laugh whenever I hear him because his voice is at least an octave to high for the hard man persona. A minor fault and one I'll gladly take when he talks sense

Between him and Dyche there's a barbershop quartet in the making. Which is ironic considering they're both baldies!

That's folically-challenged for those who are easily offended!

When did he work with Bentley? It usually takes ages for scouts to build up a report on a player, Appleton needs players now. Why wouldn't he go for players he knows already?

Hughes took a similar approach when he came. Quickly brought in the likes of Savage to fill some holes.

I was being a bit snidey. When did Bentley sign, I must have missed it. Also I don't think he's had DJ before, or Orr. For the most part it is the Appleton gang, not trying to say that's bad either.

Same here.

I don't agree with everything he does, but at least he's a proper manager making decisions for the right reasons.

If this was a game of Venky's rolling a dice (I imagine their picking of managers involves the same balance of luck and skill as this), they rolled a 1 both times with Kean and Berg. With Appleton they've probably rolled a 4. Hopefully he'll stick around for a long time because it's not worth the risk of them having another roll!

Still very early days but the signs are promising

The comments after the Charlton game were ridiculous, folk writing him off saying the players weren't playing for him etc it was clear he went into that game with the same setup that had done well in the last few games. After which he addressed the lack of support for Rhodes by switching formation and got us playing simple but effective football.

Some of his most vociferous early critics have been silenced since he started doing well, I just hope he is afforded a bit of breathing space and not just jumped on at the first chance. In fact I think Mr E is the only one I've seen criticise him recently but he doesn't count.
