Oh well all over with by the shouting now, can't judge him on either of his managerial posts results wise considering the problems at the time, so it's got be a clean slate as far as he is concerned. Seems a straight talker , used to dealing with eratic owners and hopefully being an ex midfielder himself will address that major problem.

Hopefully bring stability to on pitch affairs but no doubt the off field circus will roll on.

Just spoken to my Pompey supporting, season ticket holding work colleague. His take on Appleton is he will say the things the fans want to hear. However, his main aim always seemed to be to get to half time at nil nil and try and steel the points in the second half. If they went a goal or two down with say 30 mins to play, he'd wait until the last 2 or 3 minutes before making a change. The football wasn't pretty and he likes to pack the midfield. Definately a one up top kind of manager (i guess they all are nowadays).

Anyway, just passing that on. It seems he wasn't a popular figure for his tactics but seemed like a thoroughly decent bloke. Personally, although the above opinion is less than flattering, i don't think it is really applicable. With a makeshift squad like Pompey's its understandable to try and keep things tight and look to steel a goal on the break. If they were gung-ho and got tonked every week the confidence of a young fragile squad would be shot to pieces.

So predictable.....

Lo and behold the official BRFC site declares.....

" Following lengthy discussions with Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston, Blackburn Rovers can confirm that the club has been granted permission to speak to Michael Appleton and Ashley Westwood about the vacant manager’s position at Ewood Park."

:rolleyes:Oyston (and at least two others) will be laughing all the way to the bank! Fair play to him too. :tu:

Just one thing doesn't stack up. Appleton (wisely by Bpool ) was on a 1 year rolling contract.... so why the hell after all the times they have paid good money after bad to departing managers have the Lunes in Pune reputedly authorised their men in Blackburn to offer him 4 year one? And especially when the average tenure of a manager in this Div is around 2 years? Fools and their money eh?

What was wrong with keeping Bowyer until the summer? Let Appleton lose/win Blackpool games until then and re-assess early in the close season and then hit the ground running?

Exactly......

....... Apart from nobody in positions of power at ewood being able to make a few bob on the side you mean?

Personally, I'm happy to give the guy a chance. He might be another Steve Kean or he might be another Howard Kendall - both were new to management when they took over at Ewood and while one was a failure the other was a huge success. All you can do is give the guy a chance to see what he can do. At least it sounds as if Appleton is bringing in his own right hand man and one would assume that Gary might well be offered a first team coaching role if he wants it.

He sounds like a younger version of Allardyce.

You know what Windy, i thought the same thing. The guy relaying it to me was saying it as a negative but part of me was thinking that approach may not be the worst thing. The trouble is, not many people can pull off that style of football as well as Big Sam.

I've been really down on this appointment and to be honest i can think of others who i'd have picked ahead of Appleton. But what else can we do but give him a fair crack of the whip. I just hope Ferguson and Hodgson will be proved right and he has the makings of a good manager. Time will tell.

I've come around to supporting Appleton, and will give him a fair chance.

Its not a surprise that Venkys, and the 3 stooges have made a mess of it. If Bowyer wins his 4th game in a row, then there will be so much expectation by the fans on Appleton. If he loses his 1st game in charge, then there will be major questions asked. The fact of the matter is, that Appleton will have inherited a winning squad, and if he fails, then he can make no excuses, and neither can Shaw. We have set ourselves up for disappointment once too many, and if it happens again, then I think its time that more people will call it quits. This has to work, if it doesn't, well then I'm afraid there will be trouble brewing

Venkys, Agnew and Shaw will never ever learn.

I am not over whelmed with the appointment and I wont be rushing to renew a season ticket. I wish the lad luck because he is going to need it.

The infighting needs to stop now, Shagnew needs outing, Shabby needs shafting and Balaji and co need a good keaning.

Tend to agree, (about supporting Appleton) big night for the team tomorrow - play out of their skin for GB, fourth win and massive pressure on MA v Charlton at home for his first game. I will be at Ewood next Sat, hope there will be an increase in attendance, if only to say well done to Gary - god forgive these idiots they don't keep him and Kevin on!

if this could not get any stranger its now emerging that Shaw, Agnew and Singh had no call in Appleton this has been direct with India

Appleton was interviewed by Video call to India, days AGO!!!, Which puts todays mess well n trully up in the air

So Shaw been getting shot from many quarters today, including from me, but this really does look like he is just the paperwork guy

Agnew is also not involved, he is currently on Holiday

Source of info IS India and also from within the Blackpool camp from those asking

I work in the gaming industry. The most controversial element at the moment are the fixed odds machines in bookies. You get people desperately chasing their losses with outlandish bets.

Could be the loons are the football owners equivalent.

Note to gamblers - there is only one winner.
