Sparky Marky Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Where's the centre halves we need. We have enough Show Ponies.....
Gally Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Don't suppose anyone knows how he's been getting on in Russia?
perthblue02 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Don't suppose anyone knows how he's been getting on in Russia? According to this played eight games but they are on a winter break http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/david-bentley/profil/spieler_3205.html, can't find any stat's or in fact anything on his agents website (if the agency link on the posted link is right)
Backroom DE. Posted January 13, 2013 Backroom Posted January 13, 2013 Bentley's only 28, if he can get his head down and work hard I'd think he can do a job in the Championship. On the other hand, right-midfield is surely not a priority? We've got Vukcevic, CKR, Rochina and Formica who can all play there. Are we planning to move one of them into the centre permanently, or bring Bentley in to play centre-midfield?
chaddyrovers Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Where's the centre halves we need. We have enough Show Ponies..... we need a winger with good crossing ability to supply Rhodes and when Best come back the chances. but we also need 1 Centre back, box to box midfielder and back up Full back or keep Kane on loan till end of the season

We've got Vukcevic, CKR, Rochina and Formica who can all play there. Are we planning to move one of them into the centre permanently, or bring Bentley in to play centre-midfield? Formica is far from great, Rochina seems to have a "free" role, Vukcevic has a mysterious condition that means he can only play 60 minutes and CKR is probably going to threaten to chin the new coach as well as being more effective further forward... Good signing that should add quality to our midfield, either in the center or on the right.
EWOODACE1 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 why bentley. we have enough attacking forwards. plus we need centre midfielders more than anything

Formica not a winger. and wants to go back home. so sell him. Will be interesting to see What formation Appleton will play??? 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 why bentley. we have enough attacking forwards. plus we need centre midfielders more than anything cos Bentley would supply the crosses for Rhodes that he wants
LDRover Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 ok'dokey then, (although personally id don't believe that family are the total innocents they make themselves out to be, we'v only really ever heard their side of the story) and the thought of me having any kind of savings to be diddled out of would be a fine thing I think the fact that Hendry hasn't taken legal action against the website where all the allegations are tells it's own story. He's a lot of things but legend he most certainly is not. Anyway, back to Appleton. Underwhelmed.
chaddyrovers Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Anyway, back to Appleton. Underwhelmed. who was u expecting??? Hughes?
gumboots Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 no but that doesn't mean we can't be underwhelmed. doesn't mean we won't be hoping that he succeeds; doesn't mean we won't be delighted if he turns out to be a success. Just means that we hoped for someone different with perhaps a bit more pulling power, a bit more experience, a bit more of an obviously attractive personality. The guy might be wonderful but at the moment there is nothing to suggest he will be so for the moment we are underwhelmed.
rovers11 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I'd certainly take Bentley. I'd get rid of several players on big wages who offer very little to the team. Pedersen, Dunn, Givet, Robinson, Orr and Formica can all go. That would save the club several million per year. We need to bring in a central midfielder, versatile defender and a right midfielder.
Wayne Wild Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 no but that doesn't mean we can't be underwhelmed. doesn't mean we won't be hoping that he succeeds; doesn't mean we won't be delighted if he turns out to be a success. The guy might be wonderful but at the moment there is nothing to suggest he will be so for the moment we are underwhelmed. I agree absolutely. I personally wanted a manager with significantly more experience who would also be much more expensive as it would statistically and historically give us a better chance of promotion that we desperately need. However, I will still give him my total support, I will still hope he is a fantastic success and still hope that he is remembered as a massive success and legend in BRFCs future. That doesn't mean that individuals can't state that they think the decision process is wrong or the owners/directors have continually made mistakes while continually giving false information. Lets hope Appleton really is a great success.
broadsword Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Seems like a bit of an aggressive mindset to me. You either have to be overjoyed that we have "Appy" (makes him sound like a @#/? dwarf), or you have unrealistic ambitions/ you're always moaning/ you have a death wish for Rovers/ "give him a chance FFS/ get behind him FFS" (delete as the splenetic mood takes you). Well, sorry not to be one of the Football Manager-playing sheeple who thinks experience equates to being unsexy, and pulling names out of a left-field hat is exciting and progressive for a club in financial quicksand with a squad full of @#/? and civil war in the boardroom. But how about someone with some experience of getting teams promoted, someone who's been about a bit, seen and done a few things. Not some Manchester growler who goes on holiday with the Shelvinator, who's "highly-rated" by Alex Ferguson (like that would be his earnestly-held opinion) and who has very limited experience. Some people are like lemmings and try to put a positive spin on anything 'cos they don't like facing up to reality. It's a very strange appointment to be making, and yet again I think the motives behind a decision taken at Ewood park are questionable. It may well work out with him, but given the financial turmoil that must surely now be going on behind the scenes, I think that's a question of hope triumphing over expectation. Who knows, maybe he has some handy contacts in the chair industry?

If we could get rid of 2/4 of those players then by all means, bring Bentley in. Otherwise it seems pointless when they are other areas of our squad (centre midfield, centre defence) that desperately need strengthening. I'd even say LB/RB are a priority over right midfield.
LDRover Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 who was u expecting??? Hughes? If you're happy with the way expectations have been lowered to the point where we should be happy with disinterested absentee owners, Curly, Larry and Mo on the board, the dismantling of a mid table premiership squad and a new, inexperienced manager with a points per game record of 1, then knock yourself out chaddy.

Bloody hell. I only ask who were you expecting to take over as manager??? I wanted someone like Billy Davies or Sean O'Driscoll as manager. not a big name but alot of Championship experience. I think Appleton is a okay appointment. seems to have a good rep as a coach and players speak highly of him. Players like Steven Reid. Will defo support him and hopefully he turns out to be excellent appointment
broadsword Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Bloody hell. I only ask who were you expecting to take over as manager??? Second-guessing these blimps is impossible, so I don't think there was any expectation from supporters that Manager X would take over.

What I realistically wanted was either a disciplinarian like Walter Smith or George Graham or an experienced boss like Hoddle. Whatever happened to all the quality applicants who applied the first time according to Shebby?
Backroom DE. Posted January 13, 2013 Backroom Posted January 13, 2013 Saw what happened to Berg and thought "@#/? that." Or just never existed. Who knows?

Whatever happened to all the quality applicants who applied the first time according to Shebby? Does Hoddle still want to be manager??? I have my doubts now. more interested in being a pundit now but would have been a good choice. Lets not forget that Shaw wanted Holloway or McCarthy and Shebby didnt. would be a good manager. Im not a big fan of Holloway but would have accept him. But I was expecting Rovers last time to appoint experience and didnt. so wasnt expect it this time tbh
mhead Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Been away. Of course in 2 years since Big Sam any appointment is underwhelming. The Manager's name of OUR club is totally irrelevant. The Venkys have broken first our optimism, secondly our sense of reality and thirdly our hearts. Until THEY go there will be a sense of drift. I can see the PNE 'three' being quite at home in League 1, with their 'home' Club. But the Venkys are just hopeless. With every day BRAG need to focus on their only Punatic targets and the BR Trust needs to get ready. Just imagine Season Ticket sales for 2013/14 and you want to cry.
