What a surprise, they scheduled a press conference which clashed with a training match and had to cancel it.

What a bunch of useless keaners!!!!

Philip, as much as I value some of your thoughts on the situation not everything is an error or mishap on behalf of those running the club.

Maybe Appleton was appointed, the press conference arranged and then the opportunity came up to play a game at that time so Appleton decided to move the conference and have the game.

Madness, pure madness!!!

Sorry; I've not mastered multiquote but just wanted to comment on a couple of recent posts on here.

I've just had a look at Mr Appleton on Google Images. I wouldn't like to meet this guy in broad daylight, let alone a dark alley at night.

Let's hope he puts the frightening heeby-jeebies into most of our well paid soft players.

I want to see Appleton's team come out scrapping and playing to win for over 90 minutes.

But then again looks may deceive. He may be a big soft pussy cat.

What; from Salford? I'd be surprised!

Did you ever see John McNamee play Abbey?

Tell you what Parson, we were 3rd from bottom in the league when he joined from Celtic in November and we almost got promoted that year, awesome at that level and hard as nails, as was Keeley!!

Sorry, Kelbo; we signed McNamee from Newcastle United and it was his second season when we finished third in Division 3 - we finished 10th in his first season.

I'll never forget that November day he joined us; I was on my way home from College to the digs I shared with 2 members of the Toon Army who were already on the bus I boarded. They p155ed themselves laughing at Ken Furphy having picked up another [benny Arentoft was the first; Kit Napier was to follow] of their surplus-to-requirements players.

But you're right; McNamee was just what our defence needed [and what the current one still does?].

Maybe Venky's themselves are going to speak at the press conference?

We haven't heard from them since the historic "confused" speech back in April.

Would be good to hear what they are actually thinking about the current madness.

Did Kit Napier not join from Brighton along with Pat Hilton and Ken Beamish or is my memory playing tricks?

Isn't funny [sad?] how you forget names? I'd completely forgotten about Pat Hilton!

You're right, although Napier had previously played for Newcastle, all three joined us from Brighton, I don't think they joined at the same time, though. Napier joined us in 1972/73 season while Hilton and Beamo made their debuts for us at the start of the 1974/75 promotion season.

Napier caught the eye when he played for Workington and scored two goals in the league cup, at Ewood, when they beat a strong first division rovers 5-1. That was a pretty dour evening.

A gate of 5000 I think, of which I was one. Anyone else?

Besides you, there were approx 6181 others there!

What I hadn't realised was that it was a replay and approx 11800 had been at the first match.

All the above info is once again down to Mike Jackman's book - cheers!

And yes, I was there.

Just on the point about the marches and falling crowds, yes they did work, it brought attention to issues, and forced the owners hand to eventually put the wheels in motion to sack king rat, he wouldn't have resigned if he'd not have got wind he was about to be sacked.

The marches began when, in September 2011? Kean walked a year later. Not sure I believe the two are linked that much to be honest. Anyway, Venkys are still running our club into the ground so, while Kean has gone, we aren´t actually any better off at all. Since then, in fact, it has if anything been even more woeful.

Yep; :glare: 1964/65 season. Puts some of our present difficulties into context, eh?

They also beat us 2-1 if my memory serves me, league cup, our first season in the third division, also at Ewood. I remember thinking just how far we had fallen. A bit like now really.

Tony Field was a great player at the level he played, came from Southport and had a bit of pace, trickerry and goalscoring ability, used to beat three players, score a goal and blow kisses at the defenders!!

Played for the New York Cosmos too.
