Sparky Marky,

personally I'd rather try and help rather than accuse him of being some king of "Daily Mail" benefit scrounger. I suppose it all depends on your point of view.

Credit to Oklahoma for following Norman Tebbitts advice to "Get on his bike" to find work but the fact that we have gazillions of lazy arsed drones (and especially in Lpool) living on benefits rather than taking such jobs confirms that the Daily Mail's attitudes and observations are pretty much spot on. Well done to you for highlighting that fact Colin.

Times are hard here too but there are always jobs available for those prepared to work. The minimum wage is middling in international terms but I would imagine airport work will pay above that.

You'll like Liverpool. Fell on hard times in the 1980s but reviving over the past decade or so and architecturally with London, Edinburgh and Bath one of the best ciies in Britain with some beautiful buildings. Living in the North west you'll also of course be close to the mecca that is Ewood Park. Good luck whatever you decide.

Oh..... and dont forget to bring a macintosh and wellies and thermal underwear Oklahoma! They come under the heading of essentials over here.

Sydney is also a possibility but it has a major factor against it: the distance.

But if it has to be, we'll go there.

'distance'? What with the internet, skype and stuff and less than a days travel by air? You need to consider how long it took modern day Australians ancestors to get there! You know the ones with the extra 'Y' chromosome.

True, the distance is not what it was before. Much faster and cheaper to go anywhere in the world now.

But living in England, it would be much easier and cheaper, specially with Ryanair and Easy Jet flights to those areas.

Well, first priority is to find a job for both and probably have a carreer anywhere in the world where we can find work. I just have to worry about transport and other details later.

My mate who lives in West lancs reckons a scouser is a direct cross between an Irishman and a pig.

Well your ginger hair is a dead giveaway !

As for Liverpool, it's a shame you're married Ricardo because in my experience Liverpool has the highest number of attractive girls in all the places I've been to across the UK.

Loads of fitties but the softer accent from over the river is lovely

Classic Alf. Johnny Speight could not have written it better.

My mate reckons red-heads are Irish or descendants of so I suppose you are describing yourself.

I was working at the Jacobs cream cracker factory in Aintree once. Me and my pals used to play spot the good looking girl. There were hundreds of women on all sorts of shifts. Finding a good looking one was almost impossible !

Oklahoma,

I moved to Liverpool 12 1/2 years ago to work and live not too far away from the airport in Wooolton, South Liverpool.

You would be able to find a house share in an area such as Aigburth that has great links to the airport and also close to the city centre and Lark Lane which is great for socialising. It also has Sefton Park which is lovely. Whilst I would definitely say avoid Speke, there are certain areas of Garston that border other areas that are afordable and quite nice to live in.

Drop me a PM if you need any help and I'll give you my email address. I also know a couple of fellow Portugese who have moved here and may be able to offer some advice. Their main gripe is the weather!

Good luck

Alan

Thanks, Alan.

I'm still waiting for a final decision from the company.

If I go there, I'll be glad to contact you.

For me the most important is to find an affordable place to stay with great links to the airport and Ewood.

What a load of rubbish.

I don't doubt for one minute that there is a sizeable contingent on benefits who would match your description, but what percentage of the people on benefits, lazy or not, would have the training Oklahoma has to do the job considering it sounds like quite a technical one?

I'm not wishing to do Oklahoma down in any way but at circa £1400 per month it can't be that technical. And especially not given the amount of people experienced in working in aviation in the NW.

In my first year as a doctor after tax my take home pay was only 1900 a month. The entry point of most jobs doesn't pay all that well.

It's not that technical as I am not an engineer.

But with the extras it would be more than that.

And I have no intention of living of the State benefits. Never did and hopefully never will.

Anyway, you can relax now, I'm not moving to Liverpool after all.

I didn't get the job. :(

Oh well, at least you don't have to go shopping for a tie that goes with a shell suit!
