It takes years to buid a fanbase, a summer to decimate it.

Going to the football is a habit and once broken it is massively difficult to attract those fans back.

Keeping Steve Kean this summer has done untold damage to the supporter levels, I personally knew of a couple of dozen that stated 'I won't be back till he's sacked'- many of whom who had been trekking to Ewood for decades. I think about 2 or 3 actually did return after he departed.

You can't take the mick out of your supporters, espeically if you have a relatively small amount to start with.

See a fine example of trolling in the quote above ^ ^ ^ plus the previous comments towards Abbey.

I'll be honest, I presumed Abbey was 17

Cheers :)

So 20 attendances have been over 30,000 - didn't realise one of which was only 105 short of being 31,000.

Think the list needs updating with a couple of 29k'ers... but apart from that some good crowds there!

We used to get big gates in the mid 90's. Newcastle used to bring a lot, as did Man Utd, City and Liverpool. Only time it was fully packed with Rovers fans was the presentation night - where it wasn't even slightly annoying that "We are the champions" was played on repeat! The good old days.

Dont boast about spelling when you cant....i dont ha

I don't remember boasting, you brought the issue of your poor spelling up, i was just saying i have the same problems but find a good spellchecker helps, the mistake you have pointed out there is obviously just a miss hit key(Q&A are next to each other.

As for the what defines selling out issue, i'm guessing its defined by the amount of allocated tickets that are made available selling out and not whether every seat in the stadium has a bum on it, It would be very sad if the Burnley game wasn't at least close(by a thousand or two) too selling out.

blue and white army you really are a pathetic little man.

Other posters please look back at this 'persons' other comments in this thread aimed at me and pretty much every other post he makes on this site to understand why i have to resort to insults with this Diff, sadly the ignore function becomes a bit useless when his trash gets quoted a lot(usually by the many many others that are tired with his childish bile

p.s. I've got a lot of time and respect for Abbey as a poster/forum member(i just don't agree with all he says ;) ), any digs at him are made in jest(and i take any digs back the same way)

I haven't really noticed any actual ticket offers this season, most match tickets in the riverside are £15(but tbh going to Ewood has been miserable enough lately without having to add to it by sitting in that stand), the next price up from the riverside is usually over £22.

Although in general you cant argue with the ticket prices at Ewood, even with the way things are and the league we are in prices are still as good as you will get anywhere, just pointing out that I haven't noticed any actual ticket offers for a while.

Attendances cannot or should not be attributed to just winning, but I will admit winning does play its part also and may be the only way to win back fans in this particular instance. If you look at clubs in similar league positions to Rovers quite a few have higher average gates for this year (e.g. Derby, Sheffield, Wolves), most of which are approximately 5k higher. Is this simply because morale at the club is higher or because they have more dedicated fans?

Relative to the actual size of the population/fan catch basin for each of these clubs obviously Sheffield is the anomaly but clubs like Derby and Wolves have similar sized fan bases to Blackburn.

Relative to the size of the stadium Wolves and Derby pull in well over half capacity while Rovers has struggled to fill Ewood even 50% on average.

We cannot ignore the fact that Steve Kean and Venky's have played a huge part in all this, probably more so than relegation from the PL. As others have stated it will take some time to win back fans and winning is likely the only way this will happen. There is only so much the price of a ticket can be slashed before the value of the ticket is 'cheapened'. I would say it's almost better to have a minimum price a ticket can drop to as to not diminish the value of the football experience than to have a 60% filled stadium (realistically if the tickets were free would Ewood be 100% capacity these days?). Keep in mind once a ticket price has been slashed it is hard to raise the price back up, even when a winning side is fielded and the club is back in the PL. Obviously take my opinions with a grain of salt as I myself do not attend Ewood (I live quite far).

STILL using insults I see T.J.? Maybe look up trolling then read back your recent contributions. Stones in glass houses and all that. Just saying so don't go off on one again.

Purile insults to one side the Burnley game will not top 25k. You can take that to the bank..........which is a sad indicment of how Venkys and their assorted low quality/underqualified appointments, on and off the pitch, have eroded the patience and goodwill of the people of Blackburn. This is the most under threat our 30+ year undefeated record has ever been.........as the situation currently stands.

  • Moderation Lead

We didn't fill the ground in the halcyon days of the mid-90s, (though attendances were at their peak then, or at least as high as they have been in my lifetime-28 years) so I'd be amazed if we did now, even for the Burnley game for example.

Truth is, at the moment, fans are fed up, and many just can't bare to go to Ewood any more because of the horrendous decisions of the last 2 years.

Personally, while the tickets are still very affordable, and I'm living in the area, I'll be continuing to go to games home and away.

Pathetically transparent manipulative little KeanEsque trick you have there of just reversing a criticism you receive yet again just showing how insecure and childish you are(you may as well have just said- 'I know you are, you said you are, so what am I'),

I won't be responding to any of your further dribble aimed at me, I don't know why i risen to it in the 1st place.

MODS-please can we please have an 'ABOLISH' option for when ignore just isn't enough.

Again with the Kean/Agnew Esque comments, there is no 'hysteria' or 'vitriol' and my dislike of you(or should i say your mb persona) isn't from just what you have written in the last 24 hours, its your relentless ultra-negativity and open criticism/insults of anybody that doesn't share your mostly way ott childlike views.

cant believe I responded to you again, yawn!!!!!(sorry board readers, id just dm him but he doesn't respond to them, he just copies and pastes the dm's into a thread to show what an attention seeker he is)

Both Derby and Wolverhampton have catchment populations around double that of Rovers.

Maybe this is a way of bringing back the fans - from vital and Mike.

I did say try to look above negative or impossible solutions like sacking owners/board etc. Our prime concern always has to be the success on the field. We've all suffered the same clueless owners but its in our interest for the tide to turn. Strong home crowds can help this massively. I'm not statto, but don't our away results better our home this season?

End of the day - watching rovers as an interest or a hobby is more enjoyable with a feisty performance and a bouncing Ewood park

Apologies - just seen the back the badge plan topic
