neophox
If we can not get Thomas I would try to get Gabriel Obertan who I think is a really good player. He can play on the right wing. He hasn't had much game time for Newcastle and with all their midfeld signings, really can't see him getting in to the team.

G Somerset Rover
Surely Bentley has to be an option if Thomas falls through? No harm on a 90 day loan despite him being a bit of a tw@t. Rhodes would surely welcome the opportunity.

Rhodes would surely welcome the opportunity. I guess the issue there is that Appleton obviously wants to add pace to the wings with King out for a while. As good as Bentley is (was?), he won't allow us to stretch teams using pace.
Kamy100
How about a cheeky loan bid for Junior, doesn't look like he is part of Harry's immediate plans. Mind you I have heard he is on very big wages.
neophox
Bentley could well be a option if no go for Thomas, but as Cryer said, he's expecting a loan deal go thorugh with recall option. Otherwise, Marko Marin from Chelsea? Hasn't played much but a really pacy winger. Junior Hoilett, would be good but would he play on right wing? Would QPR let him go? Mind you I have heard he is on very big wages. Good shout, but didn't the Odemwingie-QPR deal fall apart because Junior decided he didn't want to go to the Hawthorns...? If Hoilett's inflated ego won't allow him to sign for the team 9th in the Premier League I doubt he'll come back to Ewood with his tail between his legs. Can't say I'm enthused about the signing of Williamson. A journeyman with no pedigree and a history of injuries. What can he add to the squad? OJRovers
Why can't Williamson just sign? Isn't he a free agent? Also if we miss out on Thomas and/or Campbell, where does this leave Appleton's "statement of intent" and Venkys promise of backing him?
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted February 7, 2013 Moderation Lead Share Posted February 7, 2013 No rush to sign Williamson if he's a free agent, he can sign outside the deadline. Saying that, he can't be properly match fit, and I don't imagine we'll see much of him this campaign. At least IMO!

Plastics
So what's the point of signing him, if we don't use him, we need someone to come straight into the side ....don't we To plan for the future and get him in before somebody else snaps him up. There may be a gentleman's agreement that we will conclude the deal soon after other business, maybe he has some personal issues to sort out before signing, maybe there's another logical reason as to why he isn't signing as we speak. And maybe he isn't far off fitness, we don't know. I'm under the impression that Appleton is thinking long term with us and I'm happy about this. Williamson from what I've seen and read just seems a poorer version of Keith Andrews, but saying that where so short on centre midfielders he's definitely worth bringing in to increase competition, only on a short term deal mind(unless there's better loan targets lined up)

Ricky
Stuart, what would your judgement of Samba have been before he played for us. Couldn't get in the team in Germany. Or Nelsen who had only ever played MLS football.

(Even the Admiral was only 26). Even so, if you ignore the age difference, Samba is the exception that proves the rule, surely Ricky. For every Samba, there are 100 Lee Williamsons. I'm entitled to be sceptical.
