yes with loans players we might just get there into the playoffs. get to try at least

6 points with 15 to go, it's not an easy choice. We haven't so far this season shown anything like the form we need to get there and even then we're not garunteed of going up. So lets say we give it our best shot and spend some serious money on loans and fail? We'd still have a full season to go losing about 2M a month, they don't have money to burn and Rovers would indeed be in serious trouble. Best to play it safe, set an amount that won't ruin us for next season and give Appleton time to create as opposed to placing him under unneeded pressure and us in finacial peril.

Probably rubbing his hands, laughing to himself that a club still wants to pay his wages!

He hardly tore up trees last time in the championship so don't see the point in trying for him. Would far rather we consolidated and get players and staff lined up and ready to have a serious go at automatic promotion this year. I honestly think we won't be ready as a whole if we go up this year and we'll just be playing with fire if we do. Obviously if the monies not there for next season we have to try but no-one on here has a Scooby in that regard although rumours abound we may have some dollar to cover next season.

If you could turn back the clock how many of those would you sign ? I reckon you could count them on the fingers of one hand ! What an indictment of the club !

We don't need to spend a fortune to get out of this league - many teams have already dispelled that myth. Kean *cringe*, Black, Bowyer & now Appleton have all had us on promotion/playoff form despite the hugely unbalanced squad and lack of midfield quality. We're looking tighter as a unit but we still lack that Berkovic character in midfield as well as a midfield enforcer in the mold of Flitcroft.

I forgot about Berkovic. I was gutted when we lost him and brought in Tugay.

Of course, but it's bloody hard. There are only 3 of 24 clubs can go up. What should separate us from all the other teams in the division trying to do it?

Southampton and West Ham were very well off last year, in January Reading were bought by a rich Russian which allowed them to sign Roberts etc. The year before that, QPR were very well off as well. Cardiff and Leicester have more money than most and are right up there this year.

Money can help be that key separator, otherwise it can be extremely difficult. Swansea needed a philosophy that started in the lower divisions and took years to nurture. Norwich happened to find a manager who was excellent in the lower leagues. Appleton is doing well so far but would he be enough to separate us from the field if we had the same budget as the rest of the division? I doubt it.

It was a bit like giving up Speedie for Shearer, I was gutted to lose Speedie, but Shearer was leagues ahead of him, like Tugay was to Berkovic.

Is it possible to attach the agent and their agencies name to each player just to give a more detailed picture.

I'm glad someone else brought this up. I'm very embarrassed to say I hated Tugay for a very short period of time, because I thought Berkovic was incredible.

Took me about 3 weeks to realise that I was very wrong. My only defence was that I was a young 'un.

Tugay's couple of seasons with us where a bit patchy and inconsistant from what i remember, i'm sure Souness dropped him quite a few times(because he thought he was a little lazy at times, i think), he really did just get better over the years once hed settled into the deep lying playmaker role where he could just sit in the centre and spray the ball around(as well as some tasty tackling) and didnt have to run around too much.

Unfair comment gav. Tugay was undoubtedly a genius but Berko was not that far behind in ability and in front imo in terms of effectiveness. Difference being that Berkovitz played in the hole whilst Tugay was on the baseline. Berkovitz really hurt the opposition and the service he gave to strikers was better than anyone I've seen since Duggy was in his pomp.... Obviously I am trying to take into account that we only saw Berkovitz in the Championship and the Prem is a different kettle of fish altogether.

Bloody hell! I could retire 10x over on the money I could skim off those deals if I was ruthless enough !

That reminds me...... has anybody seen Coco lately? :glare:
