Jimmy612 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Bentley said this last year about the way he left rovers and he did it the wrong way "I was gutted at the way I conducted myself when I left Blackburn, saying I wanted to leave. If I could take that back, I would. I'd apologise to the fans and John Williams, who was the chairman, for the way I left. http://www.people.co.uk/sport/football/news/2012/07/08/bentley-convertible-forgotten-man-of-spurs-and-england-opens-his-heart-102039-23906079/ ''he had been hailed as the new David Beckham and was in Fabio Capello's England plans.'' I often get laughed at for saying he could easily have been as good if not better than Beckham. He had all of Beckham's attributes, maybe missing out the Free kick part. I actually believe Bentley could have been better as I believe he could have played the Lampard role too, ghosting in behind the striker, edge of the box late run type. Unfortunately, Beckham has been insanely over rated since he married Posh Spice and became a media darling. Good player, should never have been anywhere near the Worlds best.

Surely people can't hold one interview against him when he's offered a full apology? I know for sure I can't throw criticism at someone for seeing a stupid and irresponsible thing after a few beers. People in glass houses and all that.
RibbleValleyRover Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 I still think our central midfield is very weak but I can understand that we can't really add to it unless we eventually offload the dross. Bentley coming back is a gamble (a limited one if on loan- hope there is an option to buy if he can reproduce the magic) but if he as any of that talent left in the tank he could be a quality player during his second spell at the club. If I was Rhodes I would be licking my lips at the prospect of those crosses (if Bentley can still deliver a ball from out wide of course). An in form Bentley is far superior than anyone we currently have at the club at that position.

Bob Dewhurst Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 He messaged me a few months ago on twitter to say he acted like a pillock when he left and apologised for it. How can you even say that about Beckham? Just look at where he's played and how many differing top class managers have played him even now. Yes he maybe a media darling but he's different class and a consumate professional. Bentley was never going to rival him.

In his early days he was anything but a consumate professional and after marrying Posh Spice and establishing Company Beckham his reputation soared way above his ability. Of course managers played him, he sold thousands of shirts to little girls who fancied him. How many cheap caps for 5mins at the end of matches did he get? He was escorted over the 100 caps line and what a palaver when he didn't get to captain the Olympic team. May I quote Plastics? "Diddums."

RibbleValleyRover Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Spurs official Twitter account (looks verified- has the blue tick) says he has joined? https://twitter.com/SpursOfficial It's also on their site: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/News/rovers-loan-bentley-150213.page? Welcome back Bents!
neophox Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Welcome back David! A class player! Will be a good assest for us in our way back to Premier League. Two good additions in Karim Rekik and David Bentley today. Will be nice to see David against Hull.

Jimmy612 Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 How can you even say that about Beckham? Just look at where he's played and how many differing top class managers have played him even now. Yes he maybe a media darling but he's different class and a consumate professional. Bentley was never going to rival him. I would suggest that every club that ever signed him has more than doubled any payment that they ever gave for him in shirt sales, ticket sales etc etc. On top of that they got a great right foot, and as you say one of the best professionals in the game. A great asset and particularly attractive to any owners/stakeholders. It does not make him a 'great player' in comparison to the greats that were playing at the time. A different class compared to whom? At the time Beckham was reaching his dizzy heights (at one time considered the 2nd best player in the world) there were a number of players I would have had far ahead of him. Zidane, Henry, Ronaldinho, Gerrard etc etc etc. Unfortunately we will never know whether Bentley could have rivalled him, have you forgotten the hysteria around him when he went to Spurs? Breaking into England side, keeping Becks out of it in fact! You may argue the biggest club that came in was Spurs. Personally i believe that was down to his personal life, which of course we all know about. The one thing I do know is that at the time Bentley was one of the most exciting players England was producing. Nothing against Beckham - a good player and an incredible professional. But would I consider him anywhere near a world 11 in my lifetime? I don't think so. Unless I had also been asked to generate a profit whilst forming it No doubt Maj, you've been carried away by media hysteria PS bloody hell Al, great minds and everything

Well said. 2 example of his arrogance involved himself saying he wasn't in Stuart Pearces' final Olympic squad when in my view, it wasn't his job to do so, and secondly, announcing he was donating his weekly salary to charity after signing for PSG. A great gesture no doubt, but why he couldn't have just done it without the need to tell everybody summed up the circus that he not only lives in, but craves
neophox Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Its official : http://www.rovers.co.uk/news/article/bentley-is-back-659018.aspx It says Bentley will be available for the Clash against Arsenal tomorrow....Rovers must have learned how to deal.....
Mozzer Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 brilliant to have him back - finally some decent service to jordan rhodes ... :D
Fife Rover Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 +10 And, imo, we've still not replaced Jones. Either of them.
Fife Rover Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 We certainly know he had talent and that he's therefore capable of reproducing. My worry is that he's forgotten. He's had a hell of a time since his spell with us and it must be very easy to lose the belief ad confidence in your own abilities that seem to be so vital for footballers. That is sooooo true BB. I never ever forgot what one of my coaches took me aside and told me when I was just beginning my playing days. He said to me "Always remember (Fife), EVERY TIME you stepout onto that pitch that .....YOU are the best player on it, and you'd better believe it".
AJW Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 so ... Campbell , Williamson , Rekik and Bentley ... is that our business done? is that the 3-4 signings Appleton wanted to make ?? are we happy with those ??
booth Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Let's hope Bents can stay fit! Amazing player if he can find his form and fitness. so ... Campbell , Williamson , Rekik and Bentley ... is that our business done? is that the 3-4 signings Appleton wanted to make ?? are we happy with those ?? Happy with Bentley and Campbell. Don't know much about the other two.
Rover_Shaun Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Lets hope that Bentley is given some leeway and the last 5 years in which he will have lost some pace and sharpness as well as a class aerial team mate who's can take advantage of his crosses (santa cruz) will not be used as a stick to beat him with. Could be a very good loan signing
chaddyrovers Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Appleton in 5 weeks has sorted many of problems with the squad. signed a striker with pace, A right winger, bought in centre mid and back LB/CB. plus got rid of most of our number 10's like Vukcevic, Formica and Rochina plus Rosado. 3 of those on loan but expect all 3 to leave permanent in the summer. plus Givet, Robbo, polish keeper, Henrique, Goodwillie, Gomes and Jorge and Edhino to leave in the summer.
CapeTownRover Posted February 15, 2013 Posted February 15, 2013 Buzzing. If we can get King fit, then we can move Bentley into that Murphy role, and push Martin into left wing. Kean Orr Dann Hanley Rekik King Bentley Lowe/Etuhu Martin Olsson DJ Campbell Rhodes Then again, maybe Bentleys crossing ability will be lost, but i think he might offer a bit more than Murphy. I think at the moment, we might just have a bit too many in attack, or just who do we leave out? I suppose, that Best and King wont feature much in the last stretch of games, so Bentley and Campbell will provide that spark for now. All in all not bad business by Appleton
