Man United, Real Madrid and AC Milan fans speak very highly of him. So do his former team-mates.

Why is pace suddenly the be-all-and-end all?

I can't remember ever seeing a better crosser of a ball. I'm only in my 20s but still.

People go on about his life off the pitch with all his media endorsements etc and how that's what made him a star.

Well why do you think Adidas and whoever else asked for him to sponsor them? Just because he's good looking? Or because he was a fantastic player at that time?

Marketing dept........ In fact Nike's marketing dept. Beckham has been marketed to death in the huge and expanding far east markets where they don't understand football and are influenced almost entirely by image.

Adidas ;)

Maybe if you took a look at his honours list, it might take you a while, then you'd apprieciate what a top class player he is.

His ability to pass, cross and make that little bit of space to make the cross is second to none. His free kicks were not to bad either were they.

How often do you need/want your right winger heading the ball? Last time I checked he was crossing the bloody thing!

Equally he's not there to tackle, he's there to create.

You live in your little dream world putting down the best thing we've produced as a nation for a long time though.

OK have it your way modes.... David Beckham is a two trick pony! There is that better for you?

Beckhams main use to RM, PSG and AC etc is to sell shirts. Now compare him to his successor on the wing at MU who was faster, stronger, an excellent header of the ball and a prolific scorere of goals (but who couldn't tackle either) and then get back. ;)

Now, Cristiano Ronaldo, there's a player you could place in the "world class" bracket. He's practically the complete player. Becks on the other hand - fantastic crosser and set-piece specialist but his celebrity status precedes him.

Proper Worldie...... But even he wouldn't get in on the right wing though would he? ^_^

I suppose if I'm generous Becks against a Mars X1 could be sat on a stool at the side of the pitch getting the ball out of the crowd when it goes out of play.

tbh Take the p1ss all you want but I'm quite pleased that after presumably 20 years of intense advertising I am still blissfully unaware of David Beckhams major sponsor. :tu:

My Godson works for Adidas. I can't wait to tell him about this .... he'll be livid! ^_^

To be fair to Formica he was never played in his best position, off the front man. He always looked a natural finisher to me, except when he ballooned it over against Cardiff. He's probably a lot fitter now too. Kean could ruin anyone. If he does well we may get a good price for him. He is on loan isn't he?

I miss Formica more than Rochina. At least he puts the effort in. Would be useful to have in the squad to use as a winger at this level. Saying which, we aren't missing him. I have respect for him though. He wanted to leave for a few windows but continued to put it in on the pitch.

This gets my vote for the most ridiculous post on the forum.

How old are you matey ? How many World class players have you actually seen ? I've been watching since 1960. That 50 years gives you a sense of perspective. Beckham was probably in the top five crossers of a ball I've seen in all that time. He may have been the best . He had a great right foot and he knew where the ball had to go, he was hardworking and he has looked after himself fitness wise. He's also never really had a serious injury. When you've said that you've said it.

He didn't have a trick or any real pace. Also he didn't have the nous or combativeness to play centre midfield to any decent level. As for heading and being two footed was he was ordinary, tackling - the same.

Like I said before I've never actually seen him beat any opponent at any time one on one. How many other so called " World Class Forwards " can you say that about.?

A ex- teammate of mine ( good enough to play at Wembley in the old non-league cup final ) had the job of marking the great Bryan Douglas when he was finishing his career at Great Harwood. Dougie was well past his best then but I remember my pal telling me later " he could beat you stood still Tyrone, I don't know how he did it, you went one way and he went the other ".

I don't agree with you Tyrone but then it's a pretty subjective argument.

What does World Class actually mean? Does it mean that he as a turn of pace or the skill or trickery to beat a man? Maybe.

Does it mean that he would get into any team in the world? Maybe.

If its the latter then, in his prime, Beckham was world class. He DID play for two of the biggest teams in the world. And he could have has his pick.
