The Samba debate has reared it's head again? The debate about a player who had a dummy spit (probably agent inspired) every single transfer, before anybody had even heard of Venkys? The same player whose burning desire for glory and integrity took him to the war torn Caucuses where racism is rife?

The petro dollars had nothing to do with it, Samba was a folk hero standing up for his principles and the club's supporters

Samba is a professional alright, very much the modern day professional. If Rovers can wave at him and Hoilett on the way past come May what a fabulous bonus that would be.

Yeah, maybe you and Kean are right.

Fair point, he did put in some decent crosses for a change. Murphy I already said had a good game.

I forgot about Lowe. He was awful.

Murphy was good, Lowe put in some timely tackles but needs to step up a level in these sort of games where the midfield is so disrupted by the opposition. I think that Williamson may take his place in the short-term.

Anyway it's another three points, a clean sheet and a step over the Dingles so a good day. There are aspects of Michael Appleton that remind me of Gordon Lee, keep a clean sheet first and build from that. I have very happy memories of the 1974-75 season so I endorse his view even if it is ugly when the opposition play like Ipswich. Rovers will play better. Prefer 3 points to an entertaining loss.

What does Steve Kean have to do with it? Did me, Sam Allardyce and thousands of others imagine Samba's behaviour every transfer window?

Fair enough to engage in debate but chucking glib comments like that in demonstrates the paucity of your argument.

He did like a pay rise didn't he, you're spot on Chris.

But did he actually leave before Mr Kean arrived on the scene? No.

From what I remember, he was always trying to get a better deal. Agitating for a move may or may not have been part of that ploy and may never have been sincere.

In any case, we got, what, 6 good years out of him? Seems more than a little churlish to crow if he gets relegated, more so if we actually stay down (which has to be the favourite option at the moment, surely?)

Yes, footballers are in it for the money, some of them think the fans are mugs, I'm sure. But if you don't think their hearts really in it, how can you cheer for them? I don't remember samba ever letting us down on the pitch. I'll bet Rhodes will be off if we stay down this summer, does that mean we should buy Jordan Rhodes voodoo dolls?

This is just silly. Schaedenfreude for a footballer who left Ewood to better his lot but who may now end up in the same division as us. Pathetic.

I think I get it with modern professionals Gav. I've also been a Rovers fan long enough to know where we are in the food chain. Samba was a tremendous centre back for us and it would have been unrealistic for us to believe that he wouldn't go eventually. When he did we made a tidy profit.

What I disliked about him was the disrespect that he showed the club each and every transfer window. To have him depicted as some kind of folk hero who stood up to Venkys is a bit much to take.

Rovers saying on twitter : @OneRovers: I've just been down to the prozone room to watch the goal frame by frame...@OneRovers: Grant shoots, Cresswell clears off the line, Jordan sticks out a boot, gets a touch, it then hits the keeper and it goes in.@OneRovers: And as touch from Rhodes isn't going wide it will be Jordan's goal.

Delighted at the win and encouraged by Appleton's start, but let's wait til the end of this month before we get too optimistic about making the playoffs. We've had some easier fixtures lately and have some tougher ones coming up with a lot of teams who are just below us pointswise...however if we can be in a similar (or better) position at the end of this month then that we will be looking pretty good for it.

Excellent post. And just to add Samba nearly left whilst he was on trial because he was lonely and it was cold. He cried to his agent who gave him some good advice. He is a footballing mercenary who eventually bit the hand that fed him. And Mark my words he will do exactly the same to his new employer's. In fact I would be surprised if he hasn't got an escape clause in his contract.

Anyone who was writing off our chances of reaching the playoffs (Phillipl comes to mind) is looking quite foolish tonight. We obviously have a good chance of reaching them and I think we will.

There will be a day before the end of the season when we blow it and enough of the clubs around us win for us to feel suicidal.

Today was the opposite.

We won without remotely looking promotion material and the clubs around us didn't win.

One thing about Ipswich, they do play in Mick McCarthy's image. I couldn't understand how Kaz was booked and they didn't collect any yellows. I see on the BBC stats that the foul count was 5 against Rovers and 16 against Ipswich, many of the latter were fairly cynical and whilst minor were focussed purely at disrupting the play. Probably understandable given their position but pretty sloppy officiating allowed it to continue throughout the game.

Kean was the one who caused Samba to leave. It's like people forget just how bad things were during that season. It was bloody awful. The way most of his mates were treated was appalling.

Some would have us believe that Samba was just a greedy villain, who didn't care about Rovers, yet when it came to it he just wanted away from all of the crap at Rovers. I for one don't blame him. Besides, he had already easily paid back his transfer fee.

But this isn't a debate that hasn't been done over and over and over already.

Glib comments are all that is left on this subject, I'm afraid.

To be fair to the ref, he did try to avoid getting our his cards. Yes there were some naughty challenges but CKR needs to use his experience to not keep opening his gob about everything. He was given plenty of chances.

CKR whilst he can be an asset he can just be an ass at times

Infuriating when he tries to show off instead of taking the better option, also he seems to have something against going for the ball in the air and would much rather try and shove their man out of the way instead.

He deserved his booking he is constantly moaning at officials all game every game

His disrespect was non-League standard though, whereas Kean's and Venkys was of the World Cup variety.

I prefer my villains to your's.
