T.J.Newton Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Cause and effect, Bob? Having said that, it's simply that people don't want to pay for news anymore. Why should I pay 45p for the LT when I can use their website for free? The answer to those folks is if people don't pay for the paper copy then there won't be a website. Unless they change it to 60% advertising or charge a subscription. But who would pay? More people would lose their jobs in the paper mills and printing presses, never to be re-employed. This coalition government have decided that jobs will be created by the private sector - but if people don't want to pay for anything, how can that be feasible? Loss of the local paper would be another nail in the coffin of the community. I thought the citizen was the local paper, try finding the articles in that amongst all the adverts! maybe those that may lose there jobs in the printing press('never to be re-employed') should now consider doing a simple IT course(in their spare time) and learn how to create/setup a basic website or even just a blog, move with the times not against them.

Just having your own website/blog rarely makes you any money though, if it did then Glenn and Ste would have retired rich by now!
Roversider Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Good riddance. Bottled it when the time really mattered and loves to cause a mass hysteria over nothing. Prime example this season when we were told to learn the Portuguese national anthem, and I think only 1 Portuguese player only played. Actually gutted now my TV licensing will be paying for him to work at BBC. Those comments are pretty unfair and ill-informed in my opinion.

I agree, but thats not quite what i meant, sorry, i was kinda meaning if all or most media went paper free, they'd still potentially be able to keep their jobs with the publication houses, LT etc... if they had the basic fairly easily gained knowledge/qualifications needed to adapt.
Backroom Mike E Posted February 9, 2013 Backroom Posted February 9, 2013 Yes, I know. You're assuming he wants to be a journalist aren't you? Surely there's a difference between that and a fans take on things? I'm likely to have missed the point (I know you love irony), but Dan Clough IS a journo....
Martin Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Those comments are pretty unfair and ill-informed in my opinion. I think Blue n White Rover's tone might be a tad harsh but I'd tend to agree with his points (minus the TV licensing element)

My Citizen goes straight into the recycle bin when pushed through my letter box I'm afraid. Despite having 24/7 access to the net though I still do occasionally buy the Telegraph, as alluded to by other posters, its sometimes reassuring somehow to sit down with a real paper.
SouthAussieRover Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Christ I'm glad I don't live in your black little world. +1
Blue n White Rover Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Those comments are pretty unfair and ill-informed in my opinion. Ill-informed? He was nowhere to be seen when this mess was first spotted by the fans. If you ask me, he was too scared to lose the relationship the LET had with Rovers, hence why he never wrote anything negative until we were close to relegation. If you follow him on twitter, he loves causing a mass hysteria. Take a look at the Rhodes saga, he was claiming it wouldn't be done, then changed his tune straight away. He's a person that a lot of people trust as he has good contacts, however in my view he abused that 'power' he had. One little thing he says and a lot of Rovers fans would go into meltdown. A poor journalist too if you ask me. No creativity in his writing. Prefer the likes of Henry Winter, Rory Smith and Ben Smith.
Ewoodite Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 You can accuse cryer of many things but being scared of losing his relationship wth the club is not one. I've never known a local rag be so critical about a regime for so long a period. When you say the fans spotted this mess, yes he ignored the conspiracy theories because they were not true. You mention henry winter and the smiths. Two of the top journos in the country who, reading their tweetsn rate him. Anyway he is leaving so let's see who comes in.

I like reading his pieces in the paper, but I have to agree with the rest of this post, Andy was found wanting on many occasions and the times he was gone out on a limb he's be way off the mark. That said I wish him the best of luck.
RoyRover Posted February 10, 2013 Posted February 10, 2013 Good luck to him. It took him a while to have the balls to challenge Kean and what as going on at Rovers. This was deeply infuriating at times, but then again he was looking out for his job and if the LET were to be shut out of Rovers, that wouldn't have done anyone any good. But he finally started to ask some serious questions of the man and became a loud advocate for Kean to get the sack. The day that Kean turned on him and accused him of being negative, while he preferred to be positive, was an occassion when I would have loved him to have decked the b@$t@rd or least said 'not negative, just realistic.' Good luck to him.
