old darwen blue Posted February 17, 2013 Posted February 17, 2013 I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop which I dropped and thought that I had broken the screen. Took it to a place that repairs computers and he tried another screen on it but had the same problem. The screen works but the backlight doesn't as you can see what's on it if you turn it a certain way in daylight but obviously doesn't work as it should do. The chap in the shop suggested changing the display cable. I fall on my knees before the collective genius of this forum for a solution please!

Backroom Mike E Posted February 18, 2013 Backroom Posted February 18, 2013 Sorry I can't be more helpful but....Have you tried turning it off? Then turning it back on again?
CapeTownRover Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 You basically just have a blown led light or bulb. Your backlight bulb or whatever it is must have blown, or gone bad. If you have an HDMI port or vga which you should have, plug that into your tv, and you can still use it for now. Im sure its not a display cable, but merely just the light behind the screen that has gone bad Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2

Sorry I can't be more helpful but.... Have you tried turning it off? Then turning it back on again? First thing I tried pal You basically just have a blown led light or bulb. CapeTownRover Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Honestly i had a similar issue on my laptop. The screen if you hold it in direct light, you can see the info as normal. Sometimes there is a little ribbon that might also have been damaged or broke. It really shouldnt be a big issue from what you explained. Im sure somebody like Biddy will know a bit more, so maybe send him a pm Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
Biddy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 It could well be the inverter have a look at this page for some info http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_6510360_fix-power-inverter-lcd-monitor.html I guess for a few quid from ebay its a fairly cheap option to try. The only problem with laptops is that they are a right fiddly b@#%$! to take apart.

Can I assume that any inverter for my laptop will work?
Biddy Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 I'm no expert when it comes to laptop screens but I would suggest that you do need the right part for your laptop otherwise the connectors probably won't fit.
old darwen blue Posted February 20, 2013 Author Posted February 20, 2013 Thanks very much Ian and to all that replied, I'll change the inverter and see what happens.
old darwen blue Posted February 24, 2013 Author Posted February 24, 2013 Have changed the inverter and its not that. Will change the display cable next but I can't see how to remove the bit that goes into the hinge on the lid?
CapeTownRover Posted February 25, 2013 Posted February 25, 2013 Should be screws there ODB, remove them and slide out the screenSent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 I still maintain though ODB, that you have a blown CCFL or bulb/backlight lamp. The inverter normally powers the LCD and bulb, so if its not the inverter then your backlight bulb has blown. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
