Thought i would add one topic, for all mobile related content ie new phones, issues, firmware upgrades etc

HTC has just brought out the HTC One, and Blackberry has come with the Z10 to go along with the release of the iphone 5.

It will be interesting to see what sales RIM and Blackberry will achieve, considering that they will move away from BIS or somthing to that effect. At least from my understanding, and here in SA the new BB 10's will come with around 500MB's of Data on contract, and not with the standard BIS.

If RIM and Blackberry decide to move away from that, then im afraid that they are on course to kill their business. One of their key selling points were the BIS/BES service. I can see many people instead now just opting away from BB and moving to iPhone or Samsung.

Those still on a Samsung S2 like myself, the Jelly Bean update should be available, region, country and manufacturer specific. My carrier has not released this update yet, so its all wait and see for now.

I just got a Blackberry 9900, which is very nice and relatively cheap. Also it has the benefit of not being one of the 10,000 iPhone rip-offs out there, so if I put it down on a pub table then I can easily see which phone is mine.

I'm not interested in the latest thing as far as phones go. My last one was also a Blackberry, with 500MB of data. I looked in the "buyer's remorse" menu before I got rid of it and found out I'd only used 1GB of data in total, including wi-fi, over the course of 24 months. This time I got a cheaper deal with 100MB of data, which is still more than I'll use.

My Blackberry is knackered already after less than a year. The keyboard doesn't work properly, so the trackpad, 'back' button and some of the bottom row no longer function. I can only type a capital M, and if I so much as breathe on the C key it types a string of 000000s.

It started doing this back in October, but getting the thing repaired is a nightmare. Take it to one shop - no, we can't assess it here. Take it to another - we can send it away but it will take two weeks to assess. Take it to a third - here's a ticket, we'll be with you in 10 minutes. Forty minutes later, lunch break is over and I have to leave. Grrr!

Second Blackberry in a row that's developed a fault. The speaker died in my previous one, so for the last few months of the contract I had to use the earphones to make calls.

Never buying one again, that's for sure. Not that they're likely to be in business by the time this contract is up.

M-K you said your phone is on contract. Under EU consumer law the retailer is required to replace faulty goods up to two years from date of purchase.

If the phone came with the contract it is a purchase AND part of the contract. Your monthly payment includes finance on the handset.

I'm having a "discussion" with Orange about this on an iPhone. I even have a letter from Apple stating they would replace the phone under EU law if it had been purchased from them.

A replacement would be perfect, and what I'd expect for any other electrical item. But I asked at the Phones 4 U shop where I got it, and they said they could only send it away to be 'assessed' - presumably so somebody can decide whether I've broken it myself. Vodafone offered the same.

After assessment, they could either issue a replacement or get it repaired (or send it back if they think it's my fault) but I'd be without the phone until then and I'd have to get all my data off it, which takes literally hours on a Blackberry. I left it copying overnight and it just stalled. Haven't had the patience to try again.

Apple are pretty amazing for customer service - certainly in a different league to the likes of Vodafone and Phones 4 U. I had an iMac that failed, more than three years out of warranty, and they replaced the entire logic board for free. Another time I had a computer sound system where the power supply stopped working, so they sent me a complete new set of speakers, subwoofer and power supply. Sold the extra bits on Ebay.
