[Archived] Millwall [H]; 13/3/2013. F.A. Cup Quarter-Final Replay

Recommended Posts

Well, my daughter and I will be mosy-ing on down , got our regular seats but when I went on line on Sunday I could have just about picked wherever I wanted!

Hope the guy who stands about two rows behind and to my right is there - he makes my day with his attempts to start the chants, often broken-voiced or his "roo-roo-de-roo-roo" false mockery of others chanting!

Absolutely nothing. But it has a bearing on whether you'd want to go and actually watch it as opposed to sitting in a pub/watching it at home. The difference between Appleton and Allardyce in this regard is that we scored goals and won games with Big Sam, which we currently do not do with Appleton. I don't care if he plays the most boring football on the planet as long as we score a goal or two and win.

If you can't be arsed to attend a home FA Cup quarter-final replay with a favourable semi at stake then you cannot call yourself a supporter. Hope you enjoy watching it on TV.

Not going to rise to this one. Stop being childish. If you're annoyed with my opinion, put me on ignore.

So I disagree with your statement and the toys coming flying out of the pram - who's being childish ?

You seem to be getting a bit wound up by my posts pal, was just some advice. If you're not then OK. Perhaps if you hadn't added the sneering "enjoy watching it on TV" comment I would have been less inclined to think negatively of your post. I actually agree that if a person has the means to attend the match then they should, but on the other hand the football is so dire under Appleton I could understand a person not wishing to attend on the grounds they want to see their team take some shots at the opponent's goal every so often.

For the record, I'd be delighted if on Wednesday we came out all guns blazing and had a real go at Millwall. I just can't foresee that happening as Appleton's approach is pragmatic in the extreme.

I hate to say it, Jim; but in this case, I think you are. I'd started drafting this post when DE replied to you, but you raise a wider point about the definition of "supporter".

DE's location is shown as Ipswich; do you really expect him to come from East Anglia for a night match and then begin his return journey around 10.00 pm? If his circumstances mean that he cannot realistically do so, it doesn't mean he cannot call himself a supporter. And what right have you to decide that, anyway?

What about other exiles in, e.g. Cornwall? Do you strip them of the title of "supporter" if they don't go through the turnstiles on Wednesday night? I know at least one such fan of nearly 60 years' loyalty to Rovers, whose personal circumstances meant that he moved there last summer and yet I know few more regular attenders over the years and more passionate in their loyalty to Rovers.

Bought my ticket this morning, really we should have circa 20,000 for an FA Cup quarter final with a fantastic chance of getting to Wembley.

Realistically, with such short notice and a huge game on Sunday that may have made people penniless, I think we will only manage around the 12,000 mark, which quite frankly will be embarrassing.

Thanks Andrew!

Will definitely be going to the semi-final; Cup Final Day is more problematical as its my daughters wedding day! Marrying a United fan!

They haven't heard of motorways in that neck of the woods and Preston to Ipswich or vice versa is a pain of a journey.

You may get home for 2.30 / 3.00am, asleep for 3.30, up for work at 7, asleep at your desk by 11, bosses office for lunch. Sounds a good plan to me as well ;)

Cheapskate. There are many things we can grumble at re: the Rovers but how can you be bothered about 8 quid for a match of this importance to the club? Talk like that is just a slight on the memory of Jack Walker. Consider the satadium that you will be sitting in for a start. I believe Millwall charged £20/25 on Sat. Scrounging appears to be the popular culture in Blackburn these days. If you want to watch cheap football get down to Pleasi fields!

Come Wednesday you'll see how the pricing policy has affected the attendance

In the previous rounds prices have been:

Bristol City - £15

Derby - £15

Arsenal - £35.50

Millwall - £20

I honestly can't see that £18 for an FA Cup quarter final is an issue unless some fans want to use it as a convenient excuse not to go. That, I'm afriad will be more like the truth.

.Sorry if this has already been discussed but I was under the impression that Rovers HAVE to charge a minimum of £18.00, notwithstanding whether that's a fair price or not. As it happens I think it is - you have to pay around that to go and watch the Hamiltons of this world in the Scottish First Division!

This game was roundly slated on Fox Scocer USA yesterday.

One in studio pundit called it " a great game of head tennis".

I switched the game on about 15mins in. 2 minutes later the commentator happened to mention that there had not been a shot on goal yet.

ESPN says NBA Basketball on Wed 7::30. Great turnout. But interesting how posters and lot of media say we were the 'victors' on Sun to get away 0-0. Rovers fans around me, I think all at match, started out in great voice. But the team really let us down. Pitch may have been hard (though not chopped up) and wind and cold. But Millwall knocked ball about great and accurately. Their players made runs off the ball. We played route one inaccurately. Appy making Big Sam look like Michael Laudrup. Sourness in 1st Div and Mark Hughes had us playing some football. It looks like today they are under instructions to hoof it long and aimlessly. And our supporters at The Den hated it. Further not only did Bentley and Josh King do nothing attacking wise. They left their fullbacks totally exposed. Only saving grace was when equally unfit Dunny came on and ran at people and passed forward with imagination and intent. This is worst side in 30 years. Where is our Dunny, Duff Nd Jansen of 1999-2001. Unless Appleton can change, we need in medium term to find younger equivalent of a Martinez or Brendan Rogers as manager. Swansea City the great example.

Bloody brilliant. Half seven ko means I'm almost certain to miss the first 10 mins.

Considering we could have ET and pens does it really make THAT much difference to ESPN??

Football supporters are second class citizens. It's no wonder attendances are shot to kean.

I must admit I actually enjoyed the game today Rev. Not for the purists but an old fashioned tough tackling battle as we use to get playing Millwall. It's still a hugely intimidating environment and even the weather was unwelcoming! I just hope we can patch up the walking wounded to get out a team on Wednesday. Bentley was struggling with an injury, Hanley was hobbling badly at one point and King looked anything but fit. Sadly, injuries are now beginning to take their toll and the one thing we will need on Wednesday which we didn't have today is a strong referee.

I'm not having the "half the team weren't fit" excuse because In my view there's absolutely no need to field players who aren't fully fit.

Whilst I'm not a fan of his I'm guessing Goodwillie could have started ahead of Best who didn't need to start the full 90. On the wing Nunes could have played ahead of the clearly unfit King and I rate Nunes as being much better than King anyway.

If Bentley was unfit then Gomes could and should have played and there was no need to start the game without a recognised central midfielder either as Murphy was dropped through choice not injury, and Dunn was on the bench.

Funny how you always insert "pal" when you're annoyed. FYI I'm not your pal because I've never met you.

Supporters generally attend matches because they want to see their teams win. I'd take a 1-0 win on Wednesday with one shot on goal.

I say pal all the time, annoyed or not. My post history backs that up!

I didn't realise you were taking it literally as meaning I was your IRL friend though, so I'll refrain from using it when quoting you in future.

You might not be having it as an excuse Rev but that was the reality of the situation on Sunday. Henley was injured in a tackle. Orr replaced him and was injured in a challenge. Hanley finished the first half hobbling and Bentley was taken out at the knee in the second half. With King and Best returning from injury he couldn't risk an early third sub. Personally, I thought Appleton did well in the circumstances and with the players that were available and got things right.

Arguably, that kick off time is friendly to supporters taking young fans into account and the possibility of extra time.

If it was up to me I'd kick off at 6p.m. like we did with that Europa tie once that attracted a crowd of c24k.

I do of course take your point about the unforseen injuries to Henley and Orr, but you don't seem to have taken on board my point in that he shouldn't be fielding players who aren't fully fit in the first place. There's no need.

I must admit I was surprised Hanley appeared in the second half. He looked in a bad way at half time.

King looked far worse than Best, who put in a good shift I thought. King may have been unfit but that doesn't excuse the poor control he showed at times.
