Experience doesn't matter if you're good! There's plenty with experience who are no good. He deserves a chance, without him we'd be planning for trips to Crawley and Stevenage.

For anyone who's disappointed, your logic implies that Venky's would've found a suitable replacement.

I'm disappointed because what I read from this situation is that Venkys can't even be arsed going through the motions of appointing a new manager anymore. They've just taken the easy option.

I think it says more about what they can afford and less about what they can be bothered with. Imo last season was last chance saloon and we failed miserably. Now it's about the finances and nothing else. Bowyer with his experience of working with our youngsters, will be expected to put a few in the shop window and keep us safe. I would advise everyone to forget promotion anytime soon. Status quo will be one hell of an achievement.

An experienced manager would want cash and this league offers no guarantee of promotion. The risk this time around is too big for the club in its current state. They missed the boat last summer.

Kinda incredible to hear a negative reaction to Bowyer when put into perspective against the popular ones Berg and Appleton received. Are we to gather from this that many fans would prefer managers with rubbish records in Norway and at Blackpool than a manager with a decent one so far for Rovers? I'm a big supporter of an experienced appointment, but then there's some consistency to my view because I was against the appointments of Berg and Appleton. Bowyer has more relevant experience than Berg had and a better start to management than Appleton, and yet more fans seem to be criticising him than criticised them. Are people against him because he has hair? If its true that he has been appointed then at the very least its a step in the right direction.

But do you have any faith that they would've gone out this summer and found a manager up to the job?

If no, then giving Bowyer the job full-time shouldn't matter.

If yes, then can I please have whatever you're smoking?

They're dragging the fans down to their level Toppers.

That's what I'm saying, den. They've destroyed all expectations, so why are people still feeling betrayed by these people? I thought lessons would have been learned by now.

Not an inspired choice imo if Boyer gets the gig.

Decent bloke but worried too inexperienced and it's a different ball game being permanent manager compared with a caretaker.

Have big reservations about his toadying to Venkys and the amount of influence shabby will have over transfers. Also as patrickvalery states it probably indicates that financially we're stuffed as well. Appleton had the right idea off the pitch, and that's what we need - a guy who wants to get the structure right off the park, albeit with a bit more nous on the pitch as well.

It's no surprise that the teams that do well in this league have experienced managers. The salary of one experienced manager, left to do things properly, would save the club millions.

Would Venkys select better? Probably not. Does that mean Bowyer's right for the gig? No. Should I be happy that he's appointed because he's not the worst option? Not really. Maybe he's a better choice than some but a wrong choice is still a wrong choice. Would be delighted if he proves me wrong but I can't see it.

I can only hope Gary comes good in the manager's seat (different proposition from being the caretaker).

But really, he doesn't fit the profile of what is required, so yet again you have to say it's a key appointment which has been got wrong.

I'd love him to prove me wrong, but it's a risky appointment. And what do we do if we bin him in October, who will be caretaker then?

It's just so dispiriting, no-one at Rovers has the will and the wherewithal to sort this whole @#/? mess out. As far as getting back into the premiership goes, we're beaten before we even get on the pitch.

If Bowyer fails then it's going to be carnage.

I must admit that I would be very happy if Gary got the job. I suspect that the owners will be looking at developing the younger players rather than spending money on established players and in that respect Gary already has a good knowledge of the potential we have in the likes of O'Sullivan, Raheem Hanley, Anthony O'Connor, Ryan Edwards, Jack O'Connell, Hugo and Forrester. The area that will no doubt test Gary will be bringing players in as he has spent his career working in youth football and may lack the contacts of a more experienced manager. It is a gamble in some ways but one which I'm happier with than some of the names mentioned in the past.

It appears that Bowyer met the owners yesterday, so I assume that means that he will be confirmed as managIer in the near future.

I would have liked a more experienced manager, but then again I don't trust Venky's to make the right decision so we are probably better off with Bowyer. There is some rubbish in this thread about Bowyer I can tell you that he is genuinely a very nice guy, who cares deeply about the club and players respect him. If he thought that he couldn't take the club forward he wouldn't have taken the job. He has already shown that he is capable of getting results and with finances likely to be very tight from now on, his knowledge of the younger players at Rovers and at other clubs could be invaluable (ie getting players like Kane on loan).

sorry kamy, tony parkes was a nice man who the players respected, he didnt want the job fulltime as he knew the club had to get someone experienced in, if this guy takes the job, hes a toad in my opinion and i have lost any respect i had for him

I bet he'll really struggle to sleep at night knowing that.

You can't blame him for taking the gig, just look at the bunce Berg got for shagging things right up!

It's almost like a free hand-out. Presumably(?!) there's more cost control now and Bowyer won't benefit quite so much from moronic munificence, but certainly it's a factor.

I'm sure he thinks he can do the job, everyone is willing him (with as much enthusiasm as we can muster after 2.5 years of pure maniacal foot-shooting) to be a success, but I don't think he's the best man for the job.

In short, it's the lazy, easy appointment to make. It's a difficult decision dodged which could make the situation even worse.

Whose going to turn a job down that pays 2m quid for 6 weeks work? Or alternatively one that pays immeasurable amounts in player backhanders?

Of course he's not going to turn it down, going from Reserve Team Manager to Manager is an opportunity that is hardly ever seen in football. The money of course will play a factor, that and he knows his personal reputation won't be damaged much as the reputation of the club as a whole is pretty poor and seen as unprofessional.

The situation is pretty clear overall, it's promotion or bust this season. Fans should to put their hand on their heart and ask themselves do you think Rovers will get promoted this season under Bowyer? The answer is a clear no to me.

I respect your views Parson but how many youth team players actually make it to regular first team places. If any two of the players you've named play any significant part in the next seasons games I'll be surprised. I remember Marlon Broomes being touted as the next Bobby Moore, something went wrong there.

Our record in the transfer market over the last 2 and a 1/2 year has been nothing short of disasterous. Success and failure in the transfer market is the be all and end all for clubs in our situation. I'm not sure this latest appointment will address this problem.

Already the knives are out for Bowyer. ffs, he hasn't even got the job yet. He was the only realistic candidate given that no manager of any repute would work for Venkys.

He'd better be in the top two by Xmas, or the likes of roverandout will be droning on an on about 'madamegate'.
