Says the guy who wanted Allardyce sacked and Appleton retained.

If that's the benefit of being 'local', I think I'll stay right here.

If you’d actually been to a game in recent memory I’d take you more seriously...

still cant believe no one has touted Kenny jackett for the job, would be perfect, works on a small budget and knows this league inside out.

Its not a bad shout, but the die is cast, its Bowyer, cheap and easy to appoint, I hope he gets us up, but I can’t see it with Shebby meddling in the background and his inexperience.

den, nobody had more experience as a player at the top level than Bobby Charlton and when he went to Preston as Player-manager he was hardly a success. A good manager doesn't have to have been a good player and a great player doesn't always make a good manager.

Obviously Parson. No manager is a guaranteed success either, including Bowyer.

At this stage we have no idea who be staying and who will be transferred. Its utterly impossible to assess how he'll do, or rather how he ought to do, without us having that information.

Whether someone else could do better with the same players as he'll have is another matter.

Jose Mourinho, Sir Bobby Robson, Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Rafa Benitez and Guus Hiddink were average players at best, and yet they were good or great managers.

Tony Adams, Bobby Moore, Peter Shilton and Stuart Pearce were all talented leaders on the pitch but pretty crap managers.

So being a good professional player on the pitch does not necessarily make a good manager.

Correct! So how weird is it that so many assume a great player will automatically be able to become a great manager? It is frequently proven to be false yet people never learn. Bobby charlton couldn't cut it at PNE. Alan Ball couldn't manage his way out of a paper bag and Roy Keane's managerial record is poor and with supreme irony is some distance behind that of Mick McCarthy!!

The club is a shambles and whoever we appoint will most likely fail under our incompetent board and many owners both public and silent

Correct. The club is set up for failure, Alex Ferguson couldn't turn this around.

Steve Kean was a pretty gash footballer too...

If, as discussed on another thread our squad is suited for a 4-3-3, then Zdenek Zeman would be an interesting choice to go for. He's all for an attacking 4-3-3, and is out of a job.

Yeah, I know it's Bowyer's job and Zeman would never come but I felt like mentioning him to see if anyone would be interested in an ideal world.

Under Gary Bowyer during his two spells we have played 4-3-3, 4-4-2 and 4-2-3-1. so he is willing to play different systems and in this league you have to be able to.

This shows he is willing to change systems unlike previous managers we had over the last 2 years.

This was something Hughes was very good at I believe.

Also Bowyer will bring through our talent academy players and he knows most of them which will help him.

I cant think of a manager I want and who would come to Rovers to work under the Venkys/Shebby/Shaw show!!!

defo don't want Sven, Taylor, Sherwood, Megson or Coyle as Rovers manager.

Jackett and Pearson would be decent choices but would they come to rovers? we don't know tbh

Well, gee, I guess he's the cat's meow then.

Worked as a caretaker manager for 3 months or so, worked with kids for the rest of his coaching career, I guess he's the man for us 'cos he can deploy different systems. The man's a genius.

The guy who played reckless attacking football with Roma? Would be a laugh I suppose. Ignore the stupid 'Yolo' bit.

I have to ask, chaddy, but are you Gary's agent?

You should be sending this to "Madam" Desai. It's wasted here, pal.

That's the one. Not sure he'd put up with the smoking bans in the stadiums though. Not sure whether he can learn English quick enough, but I thought I would just see what people thought as a hypothetical exercise.

To be honest den I think whoever gets the job is on a hiding to nothing. I suspect that Venky's will pull the plug on the transfer budget and will be looking to get money in from the sale of one or two players - the likes of Rhodes, Hanley, Dann are the only ones likely to raise cash. The better out of contract players at other clubs will soon be snapped up whilst our will owners continue to be confused and make decisions at a snails pace. Personally, I think that Gary or whoever becomes manager will have a difficult job just to keep us in the Championship unless there are radical changes at every level at the club.

With what he did last season I can understand why Bowyer would get the job and good luck to him. There's more chance of Bowyer succeeding than a has been like Peter Taylor or Sven.

However it does nothing to suggest that the club isn't being run by incompetent no marks or money grabbing sharks. It does nothing to suggest that the real decision making power will not be wielded by one of the jokers off the pitch. It does nothing to suggest Venkys have learnt anything from the last two and a half years. Therefore good luck Gary but it does nothing to make me want to renew my season ticket.

Give it to Gary...he deserves a crack at a full season, there isnt too many better alternatives that aint gonna look to screw us over, of all the potential candidates Gary will be making decisions and thinking with his heart...not his wallet!!
