Forgot about the ginger Mourinho, he'd be in with a shout, along with Glenn Roeder, Nigel Spackman, JFK (Joe Kinnear), Ruud Gullit and Nigel Worthington. Basically, any immensely underwhelming choice you can think of.

Loads of big names will be linked to put people off the scent, Balaji will want a big name, Mr Venky will be seen dining with some other out of work name, Shagnew will want any ex PNE geezer thats floating around and Singh will want himself. Then again out of left field a 10/15 to 1 shot will be appointed. Who ever said spread betting was risky :) !

Think some supporters need to get real.

The likes of O'Neil and McLaren, thankfully, wouldn't touch us with a barge pole. In any event, both, IMO, are spent forces, that's if McLaren was ever a force in the first place.

I think we are now shopping amongst 'the bargains' where the desperados, and those whose coin is running out, sit nervously on the shelf as the most discerning shoppers pass by. Then, along will come Shebby on Monday night !

Anyhow, Happy Easter one and all.

Not often I agree with MM on here, but the first sentence above hits the nail on the head... any decent manager is going to get a PL job, the next level of manager is going to take a job at a 'sleeping giant', next you've got your clubs in the London area and/or clubs paying top dollar in a bid to get promotion and then you have the rest...we aren't a 'sleeping giant', we aren't in the London area and we aren't paying top dollar.

Time to re-adjust those blue n white glasses folks...

To be fair, I think there are only a handful in need of ophthalmic care, Fernhurst.

I reckon it will be someone scrapping the barrel, wouldn't be shocked to see Paul Jewell or Sturrock here next.

Shocked? I'd be delighted with either of those two!! Especially Jewell.

What would people think of Tugay as manager?

Singh's (probable) criteria:

Inexperienced

Fans' favourite

Ex player

Cheap

Big name (locally)

Fans criteria:

Experienced

Trustworthy - on our side

Has the best interests of the club at heart

Big name

Winning mentality

Will bring a feel-good factor back to Ewood

He'll have Souey's mobile number

Obviously he would need a tactician to come in with him. (Just imagine Souness himself as director of football - ok, I'm being silly now).

If we are going to get another gamble, why not go out with a guy how we love?

(Currently 66/1 at BetVictor).

I like him as much as anyone else but why should he do any better than Berg?

Got to go with the head as well as the heart.

As others have said it'll no doubt be someone that ticks none of the boxes required.

Personally I'd still take O'Neill in a heartbeat.

If Steve Bruce can do it in this league he surely can.

Obviously not going to happen though.

I fear it would just be Henning Berg mkII. You could argue Henning met all of the above criteria too. I'd rather our legends stay clear of the club as long as Venky's are in charge, as I'd rather they didn't potentially tarnish their reputations here.

Obviously the flaw on my plan is the need for an experienced tactician to help him. Berg didn't even have his own back room team.

I'm trying to think more about where Singh's head is and what our best option might be under his criteria.

Its not just about the manager though, its about the backroom team that they bring, or in the case of Berg, didn't bring... look at Hughes/Allardyce, both came with a backroom team so could hit the ground running, rather than either being left with the remnants of the previous manager or trying to build a backroom team while manage the team at the same time.

The pathetic behaviour by some of the executive management team (Karen Silk excluded) doesn't help either...

Fernhurst Rover is right.

This issues starts with our owners and, IMO, the buffoons masquerading as executive management.

Until this lot are gone, I think we will continue to hurtle down that very slippery slope. Oblivion beckons.

re Tugay: my heart screams yes, but my brain says no. Would be over the moon if he came and had any sort of success, but I think we need someone with at least some experience, even if it doesnt have to be decades.

Some comments about Martin O'Neill that particularly resonated with me:-

But former Crystal Palace and Reading boss
Steve Coppell

criticised Short and the way some clubs are operated in the modern game.

Kilbane 'surprised' by O'Neill sacking

"We have so many owners who are toying, they don't
understand the heritage of English football and it's very much 'I can do
what I want with my club' and it seems that way, unless they have
somebody lined up," he told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek.

"We've just had an international break, if you were
going to make a change, constructively you would have made it then, now
you can't do that kind of thing, seven games to go, whoever comes in has
got an almost impossible task.

"There are so many foreign owners now, and I've got
nothing against that, but there is a certain history, traditions, almost
a way of doing things that has almost gone out of the window."

Apparently Di Canio is on his way to Sunderland...

Shocking appointment, that.

Can see them sinking a division if that happens.

If we're considering low-experience ex players like Tugay, I'd rather see Shearer back at the club.

Dramarama! Anyway, i thought we were hitting 'the rocks'? Now we're hurtling down a 'slippery slope'? It's like an episode of Last of the Summer Wine.wink.png
