As I posted in here last week. McLaren's adviser told me that he was interested in the Rovers job so this link does not surprise me. However, it does not mean he is getting the job. It is the same with Schuster whose people have told me that he deffo wants the job.

Also heard the Mcclaren rumours tonight

A couple of years ago this sort of link would depress me, now it's about as good as we can hope for

No matter what people think of McClaren, he has better pedigree than our last three managers combined - and probably a better pedigree than any of them combined are ever likely to achieve.

He would be a significant step up, though admittedly the bar has been set so low that isn't exactly difficult.

Ask Leicester fans about Holloway!!!

Who are we gonna get better seriously?

Coyle? McLeish? Are they that much better?

Curbishley and Hughes for me are the two standout candidates and they are pretty unlikely and I doubt they'd be willing to come now.

I'd take any of the above, just so it's not Judan Ali, Peter Taylor, Officer Dibble or Hacksaw Jim Duggan.

Coyle would be great for Rovers IMO, can't believe folk still tout Curbishley. Why has he not been appointed to one of the multitude of vacancies that have become available since he last worked? All adds to the debate I suppose, although the Coyle point is moot as he wouldn't touch us with a barge pole.

As for McLaren, I heard a 5live podcast the other day which suggested that he lined up for a role at St George's Park and is very highly regarded as a coach by the FA. He'd be crazy to knock that back in order to work for the half wits from Pune.

Why is McLaren a bad manager? Are we suddenly spoilt for choice or something?

Very good coach, terrible manager imo, Middlesbrough fans were lobbing their season tickets at him before he left there and he was also a flop at Forest.

Stuart Robson former Arsenal player was saying in his view as a coach MCClaren was one of the best we've produced but when he became a manager he started getting advised by all these agents and his personality changed which was when in Robson's view things started going generally pear shaped for him.

Considering what we've had since Big Sam, McLaren would be a huge improvement.

For starters, he's an actual football manager, never mind having won recent trophies and managed England.

Forest was a flop, but McLaren would be much more preferable to some of the (realistic) names linked to the job.

Apparently he has been learning Lancashire dialect and looking to buy a whippet. Another designer manager who flits from job to job - he fits the bill perfectly.

Not that it's saying much, but McLaren is a cut above anyone who Venkys have hired thus far. That's all we can really hope for IMO. Plus, even if our owners weren't criminally negligent and we just ended up in our current position more naturally, a side battling against Championship relegation wouldn't get much better (on paper) than McLaren.
