LeChuck Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 If we scrapped most of the current squad, had a proper clearout and played a team from the Academy, I'd get a season ticket. It's not just a case of having some young lads who would be willing to put the effort in, we (should) have some genuinely talented lads in the Academy who could deal with League 1 no problem. That's very naive. A few people were the same about the Championship, saying how poor the teams were and how easy it would be. Individually we probably have academy lads who could deal with League One with no problem. But as a team it would be a completely different issue. We would really, really struggle.

Andy Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I'd agree that any side whose team is dismanted and rebuilt will struggle initially, but these lads have played together for years now and would/should have a bit of a siege mentality and the youthful will to win every game. How many of the current lot have that? Too many of the current squad are either too scared to play or not motivated enough. In either case, they are no use to us in a relegation battle.

I admit it probably couldn't be much worse than the current lot. We'd be gambling that they could make the adjustment from youth to senior football in under a year though. It's not impossible I guess, but it would be very risky. I think my biggest concern would be in defence. I'm pretty sure Dann, Hanley and Olsson would be off. A young and newly formed defence would leave us very vulnerable.

We'll definitely have to get a few old pro's in next season to compliment our youth. And I'm not talking the Danny Murphy's of this world. More the Lee Williamson's who have shined in the division in recent seasons and still have hunger in them. You're right though, the team is going to be completely different. I can't see more than 5 of the 23+ year olds staying.
Salgado Is A Hero Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I can see Kean, Orr, Henrique, Lowe, Nunes, Marcus O, Williamson, Morris, Goodwillie and the young players staying. Maybe Hanley and Henley wouldn't kick up a fuss about leaving but I would imagine they'd have suitors......Nuno Gomes would go to Qatar, China or somewhere like that....Rhodes, Best, Martin Olsson, Dann, Givet, King would probably all leave, along with Kazim and the other loanees...including Formica and Rochina. Murphy, Etutu, Pedersen and Robinson, who knows......would we pay them off if they didn't go? Loan them out and pay a portion of their wages? ------------------------Kean Orr----Henrique----O'Connor/O'Connell----Morris Fernandez----Lowe----Williamson----Nunes ---------------Forrester----Goodwillie Also in the squad are Marcus O, Raheem Hanley, O'Sullivan, Osawe and Tim Payne. Obviously we'd bring a few players in, namely at least one CB, a winger, CM, and target-man..
Blue blood Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 If we go down those we want to keep would go and those we want rid of we couldn't shift for love nor money. I'd like to keep Kean, Henley, Lowe, G Hanley, Rochina, Dunn, Rhodes, Kazim Richards (realise he's only on loan though) King - can't see any of them (except perhaps King and Henley) staying. As for the rest - would anyone really want Murphy, Etuhu, Pedersen, Best, Goodwillie, Dann, Robbo, Formica with the wages they're on. And would people want the bad Olsson or any of the portugese mob - they're rubbish. We might get rid of a few seasoned journeymen like Williamson and Orr but for the rest - the ones we want and need out - we'd be hard pressed to shift them. And that's before you think about rebuilding and bringing in players.

Salgado Is A Hero Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 That's just the team we could put out without signing anyone. We'd at least get some decent league 1 standard players in on loan....I would hope.
JAL Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 That's just the team we could put out without signing anyone. We'd at least get some decent league 1 standard players in on loan....I would hope. The last two years seem to show that Rovers always get the standard of player thats below the one thats needed.
roversfan99 Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 Would personally say that Kean, Williamson and maybe Goodwillie at a push could do a job. That said, Murphy, Best, Etuhu and Pedersen won't be wanted by anyone so I guess they'd be in the team.
moerpho Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 League One - what next? Moving the club to India in 2-3 years time (ala Wimbledon -> MK Dons). Make Pune Rovers a force to be reckoned with in the mighty IPL. Stars of the team: Danny Murphy, Etuhu, Gamst Pedersen, Edinho, Dann and Lowe on massive wages. Singh as DoF with Judan Ali as manager. Sell Ewood, Brockhall etc to be used for a new supermarket or housing. Only thing left standing will be the statue of Jack. "The transition is complete!" Oh yes I'm feeling down and out with all things Blackburn Rovers these days. Only sad thing is that this seems just as plausible as Venkys making a single sensible decision and perhaps saving the club from another relegation. I really just want it all to be over....

I remember Duncan MacFadyen playing for Colne Dynamos for years as they progressed up the leagues. I wonder if Orr will do the same, but in reverse as we drop down division after division?

I think Hanley would move on to keep his place in the Scotland team. I can't see Henrique sticking around so a rugged, experienced defender would be a required purchase. Other than that, you would hope the above team could hold their own in League One.
G Somerset Rover Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 You'd like to think that Goodwillie could rip up League One, but perhaps too much water has gone under the bridge for him to ever make a success of himself here. Williamson and Lowe, complimented by some creativity on the flanks would be a very decent League One midfield.
rovers11 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 I think we would see this team: Kean Henley Hanley Edwards Marcus Olsson/Morris King Lowe Williamson Nunes Forrester Rochina Other players we'll keep: Henrique, Goodwillie, Raheem Hanley, Hugo Fernandez, O'Connell, Cotton, Payne, O'sullivan. Players that will go: Robinson, Orr, Dann, Givet, Martin Olsson, Best, Rhodes, Pedersen, Murphy, Etuhu, Gomes, Kazim Richards, Bentley, Jones, Stewart, Campbell, Dunn. The only ones we'll miss are: Dann, Martin Olsson, Rhodes, Best, Kazim, Jones and Dunn. The rest are on big wages but contribute very little.
Amo Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 All largely irrelevant when you consider whoever's in the hotseat will be vastly unqualified for the job.
LeChuck Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I think we would see this team: Kean Henley Hanley Edwards Marcus Olsson/Morris King Lowe Williamson Nunes Forrester Rochina Rochina in League One? Not a chance. He's in La Liga at the moment and could easily get a move back to Segunda Division.
G Somerset Rover Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Rochina in League One? Not a chance. He's in La Liga at the moment and could easily get a move back to Segunda Division. Agreed. Goodwillie would surely cut it at League One level if he can be half arsed.
LeChuck Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Agreed. Goodwillie would surely cut it at League One level if he can be half arsed. You'd hope so. I reckon he'd be back off up to Scotland on the cheap though.
rovers11 Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Rochina in League One? Not a chance. He's in La Liga at the moment and could easily get a move back to Segunda Division. Rochina's on low wages and loves playing for Rovers. Only moved because his first team chances were limited. Think he's one that could stay.

Other than that, you would hope the above team could hold their own in League One. You really think a player without any senior experience could just slot in out of position on the right wing and hold his own? You really feel a left wing of Nunes, who has completely gone missing and is apparently playing awfully in the reserves, and Josh Morris could hold its own? You really think Forrester could score the goals we need? That team would probably get relegated again. Murphy, Gomes, Pedersen, Etuhu and Best will all probably not be shifted, due to their silly wages. Kean Orr Hanley/New CB Edwards Henley Williamson Murphy Etuhu Pedersen Goodwillie Best It might be something like that, which would still be too slow to compete.

Salgado Is A Hero Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 All largely irrelevant when you consider whoever's in the hotseat will be vastly unqualified for the job. But then we'd have to close most threads. This is a place for debate after all. Not repetition. There's no way Rochina would play in League 1. And the original team I mentioned wasn't what our team would be. We'd need a few players brought in, on loan if needs be.
Robert Tressell Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I'm looking forward to our 1st Keanless season for a 3 years.
booth Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 The spirit of Kean will still be lingering like the smell of dung.
