Well if the complaint is that she sold off the previously nationalized industries which was not in the UK's interests (something I disagree with), it would seem that Blair had the votes to re-nationalize them. And if he promised to do so what explains his failure?

As to the cost, if the UK could nationalize them once, why not again?

where does the money come from? Not from the previous sale of nationalised industries because she spent it.

Massive increase in taxation? Would do to the economy what Cameron has done to it---if people can't spend, there is no demand.

Besides which, if Blair could renationalise, the next Conservative government could redenationalise and we could go on like that forever to the detriment of the country.

Its not Blair's fault for not trying to undo what she did interms of privatisation, he had enough to do repairing the damage to the NHS and the education system.

Cameron doing his best to ruin both by the way.

So you seriously think it is ok to spend taxpayers money on expensive freebie lunches for council workers? Jeez what are you on? If that had been a Tory government doing that you would have criticising them (and rightly so).

If that is the case why did a Labour government do nothing about it during it's 13 years in power?

So do you still think it is acceptable for people to view being a single parent and claiming benefits as a career move? (4th time of asking! ;) )
Also do you think it is right that families with children who don't work are better off than families with children that do work?

I'm pretty much a fence sitter but I find it incredible as a defence that the opposition did not put right what you have screwed up. Yet you repeatedly refer to it when challenged.

I find it strange to be giving a costly state funeral for a former PM who although very popular with a lot of people, is reviled by an awful lot too.

I cant think of another UK politician who's death people would actively celebrate.

we all had a celebratory goodbye cake and a small sparkling wine each in my Liverpool office at 1pm.

I'm not surprised - you are the classic champagne socialist. Supposed staunch union knob, but bragging on here every second post about your freebies to Wembley for the Rugby League / FA Cup / anything going / holidays in the sun / corporate hospitality / etc.

Do you actually read what you post? If it hadn't been for Thatcher you'd still be 20 paces behind Arthur Scargill and the extravagant freebie corporate hospitality joyride you have carved out for yourself would never have existed. You probably wouldn't even be able to afford a computer and the internet.

Same happened in 1979 when Thatcher took over, the country was on its knees, green goddesses in the streets, power cuts, unions crippling the country with strikes over the amount of cheese in the sandwiches in the works canteen, you can’t have it both ways Jim.

Blairs government left the country bankrupt and even more criminal than that they never regulated the banks, 12yrs in power and didn’t regulate the banks, WTF was all that about?

Labour and the conservatives are no different these days, 2 peas in a pod full of career politicians out for themselves and nobody else.

As for Thatcher, I have no time for the woman, whats she did to communities and industry in the north was disgusting, but she was helped by the incompetence of people like Arthur Scragill, now what a plank he was/is!

I think you'll find the power cuts and 3 day week are a legacy of the Heath government (I know you didn't mention the 3 day week, just making a point) - Politicians and their parties are all as bad as each other, with constant spin and misinformation plied by both sides to gain points on each other - I have to say to my eternal shame that I voted for Maggie, my excuse being, that I was in the Forces at the time and she didn't half look after us. That said with a bit of eductation its not difficult to see what a hateful person she was. Systematically destroying whole swathes of the country who held no political advantage for her and bribing the electorate that were of use to her with council house, and infrastructre. Sell offs which benefited those with a bit of money, but offered nothing to those without.

Get out there and do something fun people. Go to the the theatre, the movies, take windsurfing lessons. The amount of time some people waste on here after googling facts and figures and using them to prove a point to someone you will never meet is plain stupid.

A poltician died. Thats it.

I'd noticed that too. I see from your profile that your main interests are 'making lots of money and enjoying exotic holidays! I didn't know you were a 'supposed staunch union knob' though. You can rest assured that Kier Hardy would have celebrated your death too PB..... Albeit with stotty cake and a Newcastle Brown. Old Kier would have you down as a right traitor to your cause whilst just about every other communist leader in history would simply have had you executed.

How many homeless meals and beds could it have provided tho ? How many poor people could it have helped.

Not a legacy of the Heath govt as much as a reason for it's downfall. The unrest and strikes and lost productivity of the 70's and the basis of what became known around the world as the 'British Disease' had it's roots in the forces of the communist party infiltrating the major trades unions as a route to turning Britain into a communist country. People who don't rem need to realise that we were in the depths of 'The Cold War' in those days. NUM President Joe Gormley was a decent union man who represented the miners but he was struggling to survive the communists who had surrounded him in the NUM and were intent on a political conflict. Notable that when Gormley retired that the new NUM President Arthur Scargill did not ballot the union when he began the Miners strike in '84. A politically agenda'd decision made with typical arrogance and ulterior motive rather than the best interests of his members and one which ultimately played a major part in his downfall. They were murky times back then.

New Labour inherited a strong economy and a decade + later left an economic disaster and a country in unbelievable debt Abbey. How many meals and beds did that cost?

Wasn't rubbed in people's faces like last week ...should of just took her the crem . Country supposed to be on its arse and millions wasted.

Why not just throw the body in the reservoir and have done with it? Very cheap.

Like it or not, she was a Prime Minister who was the dominant political UK figure of her time, and a world statesman. If you're going to argue against her funeral, you should also be arguing that the Queen should be put up in a council house, when foreign dignatories visit they should be put up in a Premier (get it?) Inn, where does that sort of approach end?

It's an illogical argument, because that funeral has not eaten into the welfare budget for the UK.If you want a legitimate target, try the current administration, or bankers. The previuous Labour governemnt also like spraying the cash around quite liberally, but I didn't see the Millennium Dome get turned into a homeless shelter.

Let's face it, your comments ar ejust motivated by spite. I wasn't a fan of her's, but carrying around anger like that for the rest of your life will do you no favours.
