[Archived] Squad for next season

Recommended Posts

he had his wages cut by 40% this season by a relegation clause in his contract. he signed his contract under when John Williams.

i believe hes on 30k a week now.

i expect him to leave this summer.

Even if he were only on 20k p.w. you'd think there were would be many more players available in their prime or on an upward curve that could contribute far more.

On a similar note, whilst I don't put Robinson in anything like the same category as Pedersen, I couldn't justify continuing to pay him top dollar either having seen Kean and Sandomierski perform competently this season.

Sorry I couldn't quite understand that

Any chance you could make it more patronising? :P

Of course I don't really think he should be paid ridiculous amounts but there is some proof to show he has been valuable to us this season

£ 50k a week equates to £ 2.5 million a year. I think I saw in our balance sheet for our last season in the premier league our income through the gate was £ 5 million ! That's half of what we were talking in gate money ! Nobody in this league is worth that sort of money never mind anyone at Rovers. He hasn't been any more valuable than either Jones or Williamson in my opinion and they probably aren't earning that sort of dosh between them. Sometimes you've got to hold your hand up about a player. I thought Bentley was never going to make a player, I was wrong , for a while.

Why should he leave Chaddy ? Who else would give him half of that a week

The midfield needs overhauling. Unfortunately, jack can be done when we have so many players past their prime on fat contracts (Pedersen, Murphy, Etuhu). Note, I still think Etuhu could do a job at this level under the right manager. Throw in Dunny, who also deserves a new deal according to some, then we're well and truly goosed in terms of the pieces we can move to accommodate new blood.

That's the problem, we need to liven up the midfield dramatically. Problem is we can't because we've got four central midfield players taking about half a million pounds a month out of the club and contributing next to nothing on the field. Remember that when people are bitching about the fact we haven't signed anybody.

According to this morning's LT Middlesbrough are interested in King.

They're more than welcome imo. And they can take Pedersen in a "I say you buy one you get one free" deal as well. And Stewart in "a buy one get two free" deal if he's still here.

would keep King for sure. hes only 22 and needs time to develop as a player. under GB he would do that Imo.

dont see the point of getting of King. think he will be a regular in the first team squad if/when Bowyer takes over as Permanent manager.

Stewart was only here on loan. gone back to Hull now.

He's the right age for sure but that's the only thing he has going for him imo Chaddy.

It's time for a massive, massive cull at Ewood. I'd be putting far more energy in the next 12 weeks into removing rather than recruiting. We need to get real, this season was horrific and we were the 17th best team in the Championship some would say we didn't deserve to be so high but yet we have the highest wage bill in the league, we probably had a higher bill than some Premiership clubs. We are no where near premiership standard, so its time to have a wage bill that matches this!

You would have to say our top earners would be on between £20-30k p.w when you consider after January: Gomes, Robinson, Givet, Murphy, Etuhu, Martin Ollsson probably made circa of 15 appearances between them, a priority has to be getting these guys moved on (easier said than done I apprieciate). Decisions have to be made with regards to people like Rochina and Formica a.s.a.p then and only then can we consider bringing in players. On the recruitment side we have seen with disasterous results what bringing in aged Premiership and European "stars" has done, this league is phenominally physical and you'd have to concede that EVERY team was fitter and stronger than us this season ... this is something that must be addressed regardless of recruitment ahead of next season. All eyes have to be on midfield for strengthening, as we lost this battle on all but 3-4 occasions at best this time.

Just heard today from a reliable source that Nuno Gomes is earning around £10k p.w.

Lets just see who the new man wants to keep first off as Nuno started well and then got dumped by the next incumbents. He started to play abit more towards the end so he may make a contribution if needed next year. We've had 5 managers this year and so he won't be everyones cup of tea, but he can play and 10K a week probably makes him one of our lowest earners. We were told Givet was washed up and yet he played like a devil, he's just unfit, clearly. The new man will hopefully decide their fates but in the same vein lets see how some of them perform with a new man and consistently getting on the pitch as well. Obviously I'm only applying that to those who never really got a chance to show us what they can do ala Gomes, Murphy et al can go as I've seen what he can do and the chicken showed more on the pitch than him.

Which I'm sure you will agree is more than 80-90%+ of players in this division, for 18 league appearances.

Definitely. Whilst his wage is much less than some of other high earnings, he's still one that we need to shift if possible.

Just get rid of as many as possible from the following: Robinson, Orr, Givet, Murphy, Etuhu, Pedersen, Gomes, Best & Formica.

An unbelievable amount of money is paid being to that lot and we don't need any of them in our first team.

would have liked to see what King could do up front central alongside Rhodes , imo when he plays wide he tends to run down blind alleys and his final ball is err .... inconsistent (trying to be kind) playing up top would have seen him stretch the centre half's more and perhaps given more room for Rhodes

I'd keep King despite his Rochinalike issues as he can play both sides, if Middlesbourgh want a winger they can have Olsson MKII, Bender, Stewart all well before him.

Seriously Givet, did you see his first match back???

Bloody Awesome and proves he's more than able at this level, just get him fit. Yes some of them need to go but some can still make a contribution with tweaks. I'd sell Dann long before Givet as I'd rather Hanley learnt of Givet than Dann and Givet battles.

Robbo, Orr, Murphy, Etuhu, Best, can all go but to shift all you have mentioned would be dangerous, given we're about to get a man who has never bought a player. However he got good performances out of some of them. Peds, Givet especially have been here years now, remember what the club was like and will already have good relationships with the new staff. They can and will be useful working under a man they respect and are motivated for. We could shift them and then let our novice transfer man loose to find out he's signed just as bad but for less. Better the devil and all that and play to the managers strengths.

Nope. I did see his second match back when he was absolutely atrocious though. Seemed to be having his weird mental issues again.

Givet is never going to be settled here. Could you honestly us having a settled central defensive pairing with him in it? He's more trouble that he's worth.

First thing that needs to be understood is that rovers and others do not train at match intensity, so training is less. He hadn't played for 9 months? and then 2 in 3 days? He was shattered even in the first match after 60 so the second was always going to be very hard for him as he's not fit enough to play that volumne. I'd have Givet alongside Hanley so yes easily. Givets mental issues as you put it are obvious, just as I watch Rovers now questioning most of the choices the players make Ie pass, tackle, do nothing so does he. He's screaming at them as they keep making the same silly mistakes.

There was nothing wrong with Givet at all pre-venky's and yet people on here blame mental issues as opposed to the obvious, Venky's and they're mob and the boolocks they've created. !st match back everyone commentators etc etc was praising his play and his interceptions and awareness really helped us out that night. He's still got it.
