Great potential in these young ladies.

Its just a pity now with Venkys pulling the financial plug on Rovers ladies football that many of these young ladies will most probably leave the club come the summer.

The Rovers Ladies U17 players were a credit to the club yesterday.

The majority will be staying with the club next season, with the aim to get them into the 1st team squad in time for the start of the new Northern Championship in 2014 The CofE is mostly paid for by FA Grants of around £50,000. A number of these players are being targeted by the wealthy WSL clubs (Liverpool)..

The 1st team finishes the FAWPL North season on Thursday night at Ewood Park, with a win over Sporting Club Albion (West Brom) guaranteeing a 2nd place finish behind champions Sheffield FC Ladies.

Since the decision was taken to withdraw the FA WSL application, the 1st team has lost it's manager and 5 players. The players that remain and the promoted reserve team players have gone on an unbeaten run (in the league) since Andy Ramskill took over as caretaker manager.

The team will be looking for the 5th win on the bounce, Thursday night at Ewood Park - Rovers v Sporting Club Albion - 7.30pm ko - £3.00 adults.

The players will remain amateur and receive no expenses next season.

Some of the 1st team will more than likely move to clubs in the semi-pro FAWSL 2, as a result. The club are looking to raise more income through commercial partnerships next season.

This will be through establishing a relationship with BRFC's principal sponsor or a separate shirt sponsorship package.

Would be good footypix if you can share with us just how many have left to play for other clubs come the end of september.

Just for info. some of the players at FAWSL 1 side Liverpool LFC are on wages ranging between £400 - £1000 a week. They train full-time (4 days a week) during the day at the LFC Academy. Liverpool used to invest £100,000 a season and when FSG got involved the investment went up to between £400,000 - £500,000 a season (September 2012).

The problem that Rovers have is this: Universities in the USA target the players with the other of a full College Soccer scholarship (worth around $50,000) and the opportunity to play semi-pro in the NWSL league.

Some of the current 1st team squad have already been approached to play College Soccer next season and when the time comes the U17's will also get targeted by the big US Colleges.
