OJRovers Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Are any minutes or more details on shebby's responses going to be available?
mark1875 Posted June 30, 2012 Posted June 30, 2012 Are any minutes or more details on shebby's responses going to be available? The meeting was not minuted, it was an informal introductory chat between a few committee members and Mr Singh. We explained to Shebby what the Action Group was about, he explained what Shebby Singh was about, he told of his previous role working for Blackburn Rovers, prior to this appointment. We told Shebby in no uncertain terms that if Venkys must remain at the club then they owe the supporters an apology and need to start communicating with the supporters and we told him in no uncertain terms that Steve Kean is a disaster and the only way the majority of fans will begin to contemplate supporting the current regime is with the immediate removal of the manager. We also used this websites clear poll results regarding the appointment of Paul Agnew, to make him fully aware of the supporters views on that appointment too. Shebby was keen on what we had to say, he was very keen to build bridges with the supporters and told us he is aware of what is lacking in the current playing squad and this will be his first point to address. We are to remain in dialogue and a more in depth, lengthy meeting is already being penciled in and he had officially contacted me and thanked us for our attendance within 2 hours of the meeting concluding, informing us that the owners were aware the meeting had taken place. Whilst these are merely baby steps at the moment, we have been campaigning for open and constructive dialogue with the club for some time, as it has always been our desire to resolve issues around a table and not in the stands, so this is a big step towards bringing the football club and its supporters back together. I personally remain cautious, as we have had words and promises spoken to us before. We were very firm with Shebby and we left him with a very clear messaged of what he needs to do.
Stuart Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Couple of questions Mark. What was Singh's role at Rovers before his current one? Did he explain why the playing staff is the number one priority and not Steve Kean's removal? Any new manager would want his own players, so this ony serves to reinforce the long term safety of Kean's position. I don't buy this 'fresh start, clean slate' nonsense. It's too convenient for Venkys and Kean.
OJRovers Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Thanks Mark Did he give any insight into the owners' thought process with regards to keeping Kean? Despite the protests and his results? Also do they expect no protests against Kean/Venkys at the first game next season? Are the aware/bothered about the st sales?

It's too convenient for Venkys and Kean. Shebby was brought in by Venkys, some 18 months ago and his role was to market Blackburn Rovers in Asia, he explained how he did this in a different way than the bigger clubs do, as he needed to. The junior leagues in India where largely down to Shebby, which he dreamt up and there will be a few academies set up there too, with schools beginning to take a big part in football over there. He did, he said the team lacks in experience and leadership, hence why he believes Danny Murphy is a cracking signing, and the need to build a team which was capable of challenging for promotion, must be the first step. We were very clear why it lacked experience and leaders and that the best way to up the teams performance will be with a change in the dugout. He also said he never shys from being brutal with his opinion, if it's rubbish, he will say its rubbish. He has openly been critical on the television of Rovers and of Kean (as we all know), and also of the Premier League for failing to produce a world cup winning team in the 20 years its been going. If Shebby has the power to make the decisions he feels need to be made, along the way - then i am slightly more optimistic about our long term future, however if he ends up with the same power as messrs Williams and Hunt, then its another case, of good plans being held back. It will take the owners of Blackburn Rovers to begin to build these bridges, they simply cannot hide away and let someone do it for them and this was made clear over and over again. Thanks Mark Did he give any insight into the owners' thought process with regards to keeping Kean? Despite the protests and his results? Also do they expect no protests against Kean/Venkys at the first game next season? Are the aware/bothered about the st sales? Shebby was as shocked as the rest of us that Steve Kean kept his job, that is something i am certain of and something which is clear due to his outspoken views on Kean anyway, i am sure that if Shebby had his way, his first job would be to recruit a new manager, there is no doubt about that. This in itself leaves me slightly concerned as this would mean, he is not the first guy 'running the club' who is not allowed to change manager. He is aware obviously of the ongoing protests and it is something he would like to see an end to, however again he was told that the supporters feel detached from the club, disregarded by the powers that be and ridiculed by the manager and as long as this continues then protests will naturally increase. He is very aware that season ticket sales are low, he would not place a figure on them and was again told he could treble these figures simply by making one straight decision which the vast majority of supporters are pleading for. He is very aware of what needs to be done.
Mattyblue Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 'He is very aware of what needs to be done.' We heard that Bilaji Rao said something very similar on the FF Pune visit. Words, words, words.
den Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Don't think you could have done much more Mark. Thing is, the Raos and Shebby have known the fans feelings about Kean for some time now, yet he remains untouched. Why would they change now?
mark1875 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 'He is very aware of what needs to be done.' We heard that Bilaji Rao said something very similar on the FF Pune visit. Words, words, words. Shebby is aware of what needs to be done, he was told in no uncertain terms what needs to be done. Whether he has the power, or wish to go and do them, only time will tell. Words mean nothing, the actions must follow and this was made clear. Under no means is anyone saying, that this is all ok now and Shebby Singh will sort it out, just because he is a nice guy. We were not hoodwinked by these chancers 12 months ago when the whole world was! So it will take more than an introductory meeting for us to even contemplate a future under this regime. Thing is, the Raos and Shebby have known the fans feelings about Kean for some time now, yet he remains untouched. Why would they change now? Hence the concern. Someone needs to come out and justify why this manager still has a job. It can not be down to his performance, so why has he still got it. This needs to be explained.
Stuart Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 'He is very aware of what needs to be done.' We heard that Bilaji Rao said something very similar on the FF Pune visit. Words, words, words. +1 There simply has to be a non-footballing reason that he is still here. (Cheers for the reply Mark).
Gav Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Shebby was as shocked as the rest of us that Steve Kean kept his job, that is something i am certain of and something which is clear due to his outspoken views on Kean anyway, i am sure that if Shebby had his way, his first job would be to recruit a new manager, there is no doubt about that. But simply the crux of the matter lies in the statement above, Singh hasn't the power to remove Kean, so nothing will change sadly.
rhodie Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 The other thing to consider is at least the owners are hearing the brutal truth straight from the horses mouth so to speak, previously by all accounts all they heard was what the manager wanted them to.Shebby has been brought in because the owners are on the fence with Kean, his B.S is only going to carry him a little while longer, as the saying goes, "you can fool some of the people some of the time............" Even if Shebby hasn`t the power to make the final decision to sack Kean, he certainly has the power to bring it about.

I think thats wrong, he's had the owners ear for a while now and nothing has changed, what makes you think he now has the power to bring about change? I'll give him 6 months, then he'll be off.

He will be based in the UK - will presumably talk to players and other staff - and be able to relay this back to India. Unless the rumours around ownership are true - Shebby probably represents our best chance of pursuading Mrs D that her loyality to Kean is mis-placed.

So, why will he be believed when Paul Hunt wasn't or her brother wasn't? We still falling for the line that he's safe merely because he talks a good game in meetings with Desai and she gets on with wife?
Majiball Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 We still falling for the line that he's safe merely because he talks a good game in meetings with Desai and she gets on with wife? This situation reminds me of the old transformers theme tune. 'More than meets the eye'
Exiled_Rover Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 All this talk about Kean - he's a symptom. The Rao family is the disease.
Kendalrover Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 The other thing to consider is at least the owners are hearing the brutal truth straight from the horses mouth so to speak, Doesn't matter what he says Desai only listens to Kean. I would imagine that as we speak Kean and Agnew are plotting how to get her to pot Singh. Would not be a great miss anyway because Singh is as incompetent as Kean.
Steve Moss Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I have no idea of Singh's competence, but reading this thread seems to suggest he's at least honest. Whether that is enough over the next few days or weeks remains to be seen. If Venkys/Raos are waiting to see how Kean does over the first few games of the season, they really are pathetically clueless.
Rover_Shaun Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 You are all assuming Shabby actually tells the owners stuff he doesn't think they want to hear??
Gav Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 The major difference - it was previously just his opinion. He will be based in the UK - will presumably talk to players and other staff - and be able to relay this back to India. Unless the rumours around ownership are true - Shebby probably represents our best chance of pursuading Mrs D that her loyality to Kean is mis-placed. He's been close to the family for a while now, his opinion matters not one jot, and you can be sure he's being paid well enough NOT to rock the boat. I don't think I've hated anyone as much as I hate Kean, and that goes for that **** payton
Athlete Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 So, why will he be believed when Paul Hunt wasn't or her brother wasn't? We still falling for the line that he's safe merely because he talks a good game in meetings with Desai and she gets on with wife? ha ha most fans haven't been falling for that one for ages even if that is the case if someone costs your business millions by getting relegated you'd get shut of that person in a nice way of course..as the old saying goes there are no friends in business.
OJRovers Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Sounds like Shebby is at least being partly honest with the fans, unlike Hunt who teamed up with Agnew to lie, defend Kean and try to further divide the fans (see Radio Lancs interviews) Good work Mark and the group Hope Shebby can make a change but as someone said earlier, if a guy has cost your business millions and is universally hated and brings ridicule to their brand, then there MUST be more to it why he is still here.
Kendalrover Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Sounds like Shebby is at least being partly honest with the fans We will only know how honest he has been if what he has said comes true. Talk is cheap. He knows what the fans want but he can't deliver it.
