[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

I don't think we have the quality to get promoted, therefore I imagine that Rhodes will be sold next summer, along with maybe Hanley.

The central midfielder we sign is crucial though. We also need a good left back. If we sign someone like Abdul Rahman for CM INSTEAD of Spearing etc, then he will need time to settle, and our engine room will be left in the frail state it is currently in.

I think DJ is a decent option to have, as is Kilgallon and Taylor, and Judge could be a good signing aswell, but I do worry that Bowyer will play too many honest players at the expense of flair and pace. Vs Crewe and Rochdale, he played similar teams, and although it is only pre-season, you would imagine he is fielding the players he considers to be his first team to get them fit. Both sides have lacked width and pace, and although King and Nunes aren't everyones cup of tea, at least they will give us something different and a bit of pace. I would personally play King left and Judge right.

I said that about Cardiff, Hull and Palace last season. lets see who other teams buy and sell aswell. I think QPR and Wigan will struggle IMO

I think we will sign a ball winning midfielder before season starts and maybe Rahman if he is good enough which we simply don't know yet.

I would play King on left and Taylor on right with Lowe and new CM for Deby game. then Rochina in number 10 role with Rhodes up front.

King and Nunes will play a lot this season. would introduce Nunes off the bench for the first few games

I said that about Cardiff, Hull and Palace last season.

Seems like a stock answer to everything at the moment when the squads glaring lack of quality is pointed out.

I'm sure not many people had any real idea who was going to be the promotion contenders last season (this league is not predictable like the Prem) and I have accepted that this current squad will not be anywhere near the promotion shakeup unless major surgery (that doesn't seem forthcoming) is carried out.

Mid-table obscurity is our medium term level

we need to see what transfer in and out happens at every club. so many transfers to happen yet.

Rovers need 3 or 4 players. 2 Centre midfielders, left back and replacement for Dann if he leaves to balance the books

But you have made a Great point is that the Championship is so unpredictable and anybody can beat anyone In this league. look at Peterbrough who took 14 points off top 3 side(Watford, Hull and Watford) and still went down. Crazy league but very good league

Hand on heart can you see us i) making the required signings ii) mounting a challenge in the top half of the division?

If you do then I admire you're optimism. This league is hard and consistency is key even above skill and graft but we possess occassional grafters and that's it.

I have to say having read some of the comments by certain people there one thing I need to point out. Don't judge a player by a wikipedia page. My comments are in regards to Coulibaly. I mean being half french I think I would be one of the few people who know about this guy and yet once again people are disappointed about this signing. I mean seriously it is a joke at times, watch him play for a couple of seasons then form an opinion I can tell contrary to what his stats may say he is a player who would be a brilliant option for the championship. A hard tackler who will run all day.

No, on either front. I'm trying to remain optimistic but until we rectify our midfield problems which have blighted us for the past few seasons then staying up will have to be viewed as a positive.

I noticed Etuhu's absence wasn't mentioned by the official site the other day. Is he still injured, sulking or just can't be arsed? Or all 3?

Only problem with this is, we only really have one season to go up. Not being promoted this season, is not only very likely but also unthinkable financially, anybody worth any money would be sold and the rest who are on decent contracts wouldnt be offered new ones so would sit on the treatment table till they could leave for free. However having watched a lot of Gary Bowyers sides down the years, in my opinion he can only be good for this club.

sorry the above was in reply to steve moss post, unsure how to quote on mobile.

Much as we may need the quality I can't see how we can think about bringing any centre midfield players in until we shift some out, we have loads at the minute and can only play 2 or 3 at a time. Player proliferation is a theme at Rovers and a lack of clear direction and planning is the reason for this.

I'm with chaddyrovers. Gary Bowyer needs a full season, perhaps two. And I think we'll be challenging for top 10 this season, perhaps higher.

Keep the faith. We can do this.

Financially, we do not have two seasons. Don't get promoted next year and you'll see majority of our players leaving. If we're not promoted this season then Rhodes will definitely be gone. I can see him leaving in January if we're quite far behind the promotion places.

Your assertion that it is a 'stock answer' does not make any less valid.

So the crux of any future success is the misplaced belief that, Cardiff (with new wealthy owners), Hull (with a manager who had been promoted twice previous) and Palace (with a manager who had been promoted before) managed to go up against all the odds? When in fact they had either financial backing or a manager who had already got 'the t-shirt' from this league?

Oh eck!

The validity of pointing out the relative modesty of last term's promoted squads is clearly lost on you. You seem to be determined to dismiss it and spin it to suit your agenda in spite of it's factual basis.

To be fair you aren't alone, there are plenty of others on here for you to share your pessimism with and indulge a mutual enjoyment of gloom and doom.
