Anyone else not bothered about promotion this season?

Obviously it would be welcomed but it would just make a change to go an entire season without our owners doing something stupid and for BRFC to begin to resemble a proper football club once again.

Pretty much my view tbh. Just wanna enjoy going on Ewood again.

So the crux of any future success is the misplaced belief that, Cardiff (with new wealthy owners), Hull (with a manager who had been promoted twice previous) and Palace (with a manager who had been promoted before) managed to go up against all the odds? When in fact they had either financial backing or a manager who had already got 'the t-shirt' from this league?

Oh eck!

Lets face it this year probably more that any recent year its incredibly hard to even guess whats going to happen. Bowyer did ok last year, if he repeats those results for the whole year then we have a chance of promotion, but we don't have a clue whether he can repeat it now hes permanent.

We have shifted out a few players on big wages who didn't really perform at any part of last year. Taylor in does looks decent. I do think DJ will be much better this year, he has performed in this league well before. The others we have got in we don't know if they can make the step up, can players such as King and Nunes contribute more (they have some potential). Or if some will remain fit for enough for most of the season.

We do have some decent players compared to many teams in the championship, but whether there is a really competitive team to be made out of them we don't really have a clue. We may yet get a decent CM.

As there has been absolutely no consistency at the club, there is very little platform for Bowyer to work from and who knows if he can prove to be a successful manager.

So I cant really see how anyone at all can take that strong a stance on whether we will do well or not. We could end up fighting for promotion or to be avoiding relegation. Quote apt considering how unpredictable the championship is.

I am bothered considering the looming financial apocalypse on the horizon, Rovers need Premier League level of money and quick.

The transfer signings have been dull and uninspiring so far and their is still plenty of dross in the squad. My view on Rovers hasn't changed in the recent weeks, I think we are still going into the season with a lot of unknown and dread. My thoughts on Bowyer haven't changed, I will be amazed if he's still in the job at Christmas (though if he reports directly to India we could see another limpet like manager situation).

The validity of pointing out the relative modesty of last term's promoted squads is clearly lost on you. You seem to be determined to dismiss it and spin it to suit your agenda in spite of it's factual basis.

To be fair you aren't alone, there are plenty of others on here for you to share your pessimism with and indulge a mutual enjoyment of gloom and doom.

I'm not dismissing the fact that fans of other clubs would consider those squads to be nothing special. Then again I considered Newcastle and West Ham's squads to be nothing special even though they were regarded as favourites in those seasons and I bet plenty thought the same of our 2001 squad.

What I am pointing out is that it's pretty fanciful to use it as a reason as to why our ramshackle band of cloppers could get anywhere near promotion in the face of what is presented on a football pitch. Our squad cannot even be considered to be modest. This is what we need to tackle before we have any hope of even being within touching distance of the play-offs come spring. There is a massive black void that this club is heading towards. I for one would like to avoid falling into it

But then again if pointing that out, and moving away from the rainbow and unicorn party line, can bring on the ire of others. If so bring it on. What a dull place it would be if we all agree

Would love that also but it's rare for a young player to go across the country like that. They usually move to a club nearby so it's easier for the parent club to come watch them.

We`ve already got Kane from them, so it shouldn`t be a problem.

Reading this tread one thing is so clear, rovers fans really don't know what direction is up anymore.

Our club is either on the edge of a dark hole from which we may never return or we are one season away from the premiership.

In reality no one really knows how this season will go. Realistically we do have some good players and we should have some hope of at least chasing a playoff position. But our manager is not tested over a full season and our owners are still idiotic chicken farmers.

I for my part believe we are a couple of players away from having a decent team for the championship.

As for GB, we should have a more experienced manager no one can argue that point, but the V's make the decisions so I think he is the best we can hope for right now.

I think there are signs (they may be small) of improvement in how the club is being run.

Most of the signings have made sense to me, we are lacking in the midfield but the manager seems to be actively looking for someone to fill that position.

Lets give him a chance to find someone.

Now unleaded can you give us an update on the latest please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do we have any chance of getting Powell on loan from Utd?

Powell would be a great signing. We are desperately short of quality in midfield and I can't work why we haven't signed Dave jones. He did well for us last season, he's free and he's better than Lowe and marrow. Can't work out why we want to spend £1.5 on the boro player when jones is available for nothing

Because the boro player is a better player than Jones. Jones hasn't got much quality, maybe has a lot of fight and determination but he's a free agent for a reason.

Plus we kinda have to remember this is Rovers with Shaw and Venkys in charge, took us Shebby and until the 30th of August last year to get the one player we wanted, Etuhu wasn't signed until the 3rd of August.. and the only other player we paid any decent size of fee for was Best and he was injured by this point.

I have to say looking at our squad I am happy we have solved many of the obvious problems in our squad in goal we have a decent enough solid GK & backup in defence we look fairly well covered with Kilgallon able to play at LB is a solid addition with Kane on loan for this year we are covered and with the addition of Songo'o him and Hanley will be decent enough at CB Up front with Best starting to score regularly in pre-season & DJ also scoring regularly with Rhodes up front & with Rochina able to play in the hole we are more than covered and with Nunes, King & Taylor on the wings we have more than enough out wide for me we are 2 players short of a very good team & although Judge & Marrow are ok back up for centre midfield they should be nowhere near the first team & hopefully with Abdulrahman coming on trial the Bulgarian/Leadbitter possibly coming in that is all I feel is need to mount a serious promotion push & I believe 2 midfield players are all we are away from a decent squad & lets hope Abdulrahman is the creative force we have been crying out for yearsapart from that the rest of our squad is in decent shape.

That's one of the reasons we have such widely varying opinions at the moment..The most obvious problem has not been solved, the central midfield berth is the biggie for pretty much everyone and has been for a while. Saying that GB is looking in the right areas (would of been happy with Spearing or Luke Murphy and would still be happy with Leadbitter) if only we could get someone experienced to run the club then maybe we would of had more success landing targets and freeing up cash by shifting the excess deadwood we seem to be collecting. On a positive note as well, Murphy has gone and two Blackburn lads have arrived, that can only be a massive boost to the dressing room morale.
