[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

He has played in the Championship, Kamy. But I agree with the sentiment.

More worryingly, we still haven't got a player of any drive and/or presence in CM - let alone a back up in case he is injured.

His first appearance of the 201213 Championship season ended in a 31 win over Hull City at the KC stadium. These points were Peterborough's first of the season and Tommy Rowe captained the side.

"The gaffer knows I'll always give my all. I carry a lot of pride when I play," said Rowe, who showed his versatility last term by playing at full-back and on the wing in his 32 games.

Not the worst This.

I am getting a little concerned that we are bringing in too many players who are unproven at this level.

Personally I'm concerned we've been bringing in unproven, and largely rubbish, players at ANY level for the pat 2.5 years.

Far more rubbish arrived than quality.

Lancashire Telegraph reports that Rovers are looking to bring in Peterborough left back Tommy Rowe, who has been transfer listed after refusing to sign a new contract.

As far I can see from his stats, he's played 3 full seasons in the Championship, wouldn't call that unproven. However I don't know anything about the player. Right now I would probably settle for that type rather than trying to bring in another Premiership cast off on inflated wages and ego.

He's actually very highly rated. Seen as one of their best prospects.

One of relegated Peterborough's best prospects... If that isn't sad enough (although I accept everyone has to start somewhere), we need first team players not prospects - and pronto!

The term prospect is wrong. He's played over 200 games, probably over 100 of them in the Championship. He's also 24 and was named captain this year. Seems that facts and research are a rare thing here.

Very true Paul.

What made us competitive and able to punch above our weight was our ability to attract quality players on decent wages, now that's gone we're scrambling around for free transfers and won't pay decent wages.

We find ourselves back in 1985, but with better facilities, it's a travesty.

Think Tommy Rowe is a good player.

I'd say we have brought in proven players at this level. Taylor, DJ, Kilgallon and Rowe (if he signs) are all proven at this level.

Marrow is a strange signing but has played championship football before. Judge was one of the best players in lge 1 and has looked good in pre season.

Overall, I've been pretty pleased with our transfer business and have used our budget better than last year.

Neef Bannan and a quality winger in tho. If we can then think we've got a good team

Don't get me wrong Rowe may well be an excellent player, but I would just like to see us bring in a couple of players who are proven performers at this level, for example Forest have bought Mackie a guy who has performed well at this level, Wigan have bought Holt who again excelled at this level. However these kind of players cost money which I suppose we don't have.

I have just been talking to a Peterborough fan and he says that Rowe was great for them last season and that if he had been in a better side then he would have got a lot more plaudits.

Not sure how you are classed as proven at this level but if Holt and Mackie are your guys then Holt has only played 49 Championship games in his career scoring 21 goals (+7 apps and 1 goal in Div 1) Mackie has 123 championship apps scoring only 25 goals (+13 and no goals in Div1)

Tommy Rowe has played in 106 Championship games and scored 11 goals.

I know what Kamy means It would be nice if we signed people that had actually stood out at this level rather than being steady players

The likes of McGuigan would have been fantastic but it seems we couldn't even compete

I was pretty sure that the type of signings we have done this summer would actually be applauded by most Rovers fans. They seem like sensible signigns for the level we are at. Most Rovers fans have asked for us to go down this route with young, hungry players proven at this level combined with young prospects. All of them also british which can give us quite a good profit if they exell.

left winger / left back / midfield .... sounds like another Martin Ollson to me , good player but doesn't know Where to he wants to play

Rowe is a midfield player who played at lb last season!

I thought he was a left-back who could play in midfield thanks to his versatility.

Makes him the left version of Jason Lowe then, eh? And we know how Jason Lowe is much better at right-back than midfield.

I just realized something funny. Lowe and Rowe. Lowe playing at right back and Rowe playing at left back, despite having the wrong alphabets to their names. Could make a nice song.

Rowe, Rowe, Rowe Left Back......

Defend still you scream.

Lowe, Lowe, Lowe Right Back......

Champions League's but a Dream.

The signings show a distinct lack of financial clout, thats the bottom line here, its not Bowyers fault at all, but he'll be judged by the players he brings in regardless of the budget and I doubt any of them will break any pots.

Wow. Thats putting a negative spin on it. I thought versatile players was important to have in the squad.

Well, we cant buy expensive players anymore and we have to control our wages (reason why we missed out on highly rated murphy from Crewe to Leeds). However signing player of the year from League 1 and one of Millwalls best performers on free transfers is good business IMO.

I think some of us are behaving a little bit spoiled.

Personally, I'm very happy with the transfer business done this window. Add in Bananaman, I mean Banana, er...Bannan (?), and I'll be more than happy. Then again, that's just me, and I don't really expect us to aim for automatic promotion. The only thing I want is to watch our players put in their best and play great matches, without getting pummeled or whipped (a la Cardiff, or the 7-1 nightmare thrashing by Manchester United and Arsenal).

Of course, I don't want us to get relegated, but I doubt it will come to that.

Other posters here expect much more, maybe a promotion push, particularly for automatic promotion, etc. That's why they want star signings and such, I guess. Different expectations would bring about different emotions.

Unless the transfer fee is a bag of balloons and some marbles it will not happen. Thanks to Venkys.

Tommy Rowe is Peterborough's no 1 asset along with Lee Tomlin. Rowe is a left back/ left sided midfielder who's contract runs out next summer, he is a very good player and would be an asset to any team in the championship or bottom end of the PL. I guess he is on about 10k max a week at Peterborough, but probably less than that. Peterborough are not looking to sell unless offered decent money for him.

BTW Barry Fry is despised by the Peterborough fans and i would rank his popularity on a par with the Venkys at Ewood.
