I doubt the deal would go on ice though if it was just down to agents fee. Surely if his client was happy with the deal he'd tell his agent to drop his demands or find a way of sorting it. I don't think the player or his agent are in that much of a powerfull position, Villa want shut and there doesn't seem to be a bidding war for him. The problem could be at the villa end though.

Sod paying them off, we've got rid of the bad egg that was Murphy. The rest i would make a huge effort to loan out, even if paying some of the wages. Or use them of course.

Think the issue is that Rovers would still end-up paying the bulk of the wages.

Take Orr as an example - firstly, who would want him at around 20 grand a week or even half of that ? Same issue, but twice as big, applies to MGP.

No great clamour for the fans to see either Orr or MGP in the starting line up.

Huge problems I think.

His agent probably thought Bannan would be one of his golden tickets a few years ago when he was very highly rated. A fee of 750k will be far lower than his expected returns. Hence he probably wants more cash through other means.

He probably heard the percentage of the fee that we payed Rochina's agent...

It's a bit like the Rochina situation isn't it? Arguably you're getting a very talented player for an absolute snip but the catch is you have to pay the agent way over the odds. In my view you have to look at the overall cost of the deal and judge if you're still getting value for money.

Whatever happened to 10%

I think it's time the authorities enforced a set fee for agents. It should come out of the players pockets too, I can't understand how we've got a situation where the club pays for a players negotiator.

It's time the circle turned.

If it came out of the players' pockets they'd (or ironically their agents would) simply demand a bigger signing in fee.

What it needs is for all clubs to take the same position with agents and tell them they won't deal with them above a certain price. But it needs ALL clubs or at least a large majority to do so.

If the agency who represent Bannan is the same one that is suggested via a quick google search then Bannan is not their potential money spinner. They have some very big names on their client list. Ungeklart or something like that.

If the fee demanded by this lot is too big and we don't fancy having our pants pulled down then so be it. It would make a pleasant change to think that anyone at Rovers has some moral fibre.

agents make money on their everyday wage in some cases and bonuses IE app's, goals etc as well. Sponsorship deals and so on and so on.

Imagine an Octopus with a leech on the end of every tentacle and you have a type of agent. Off course not all are like that and you get good ones as well. Some have staff IE trainers, shrinks, nutritionists etc etc and they help the players develop. But they're quite rare.

It wasnt "our main scout" it was just Terry McPhillips, he has conections there and watches them in his spare time. Nothing in it.

Have Rovers/Bowyer still not get someone in as Chief Scout? has the position been advertise yet?

Can't blame the club if a players agent makes outrageous demands. Quite rightly Rovers refusing to do a deal on those terms.

Totally agree Kamy. Rovers are being run properly now in terms of offering new players wages, transfer fees and Agent fees. this is what most fans wanted from the owners to be run sensible, within budget and no longer a pushover for Agents. We can't have it both ways

We've seemingly improved other positions, except for left back and central midfield the two positions we have really needed to sort out for a year. I guess we'd have more freedom to move if the puddings and has beens got some dignity and left to actually play some games. Bannan may have been easier to hire if Givet, Formica and Robinson were off the wage bill for example.

Bowyer knows we need a centre midfielder and left back but we have to find players who want to come to Rovers and fit within our Financial budget.

Gotta feeling this deal for Bannan is not dead. It's just a way of Rovers saying they're not gonna be conned into paying a huge agent fee. As others have said, the correct approach to take.

They key thing is Bannan wants to come and Villa want to sell.

could be right leave Rovers11. think Bowyer is looking at other options for a couple of days before hoping Bannan's Agent drop his fee abit

MGP is on roughly 25 to 30k. Orr's wages are ridiculous.

I agree we need to reduced the wage bill. I wonder if Rovers also have to get rid of a couple of players before bringing in a couple players is a factor aswell in signing Bannan and new left back.

I think Rovers will be looking at Tom Carroll from Spurs or Josh McEachran from Chelsea on loan as alternative to Bannan if Rovers don't sign him up this week.

I expect Songo'o to sign permanent soon aswell.

A greedy agent story would be a convenient story to leak if the club had pulled the plug on the finance for the deal...

No, the agent simply wants too much money.... If you consider that an agent normaly wants 5-10% of a deal and this plank is asking for nearly 50%....

It's about time the club grew a pair and stood up to the gold digging agents! If you pay one that they all expect it, span this over 10 more deals and you've suddenly spent a lot of money.

That is the reason for the hold up. Nothing else.

There is a world of difference between being run properly and being run on the cheap. Fans did not want the Beckham/Ronaldhio/Maradona nonsense, this is the polar opposite to that. Not paying agents fees is probably worse than over paying them, ask Mike Newell what it did for his career in management.

Bannan's agent knows our midfield will be over ran on Sunday and can create absolutely nothing. It's a waiting game from the agent's corner but this time Venky's won't give up as they can't afford. I can see Bannan going out on loan or playing reserve matches and wasting his career. Stupid how much power can agents have in modern sports.
