[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

I think we need some wingers, we seem to be very short in the wide areas which will lead to people playing out of position (eg Rochina)

I also think Etuhu will be alright next year, he was tarnished with the association with Murphy, but wasn't half as bad.

So, we have signed Eastwood, Judge and Taylor with Jones, probably, on his way.

That's 4 freebies with Jones the best of a very, very average bunch.

These lads are not going to mount us a promotion challenge and hardly make us any better than last season when we scraped survival.

Unfortunately, I think it's going to be a long hard season, again.

Don't know too many others, apart from Chaddy, who can get excited with these.

oh yes he was!

I really don't think he was for the first third of the season. He was actually one of our better performers. And then suddenly something changed. After that he just looked like he couldn't be arsed and started conveniently picking up injuries.

Could do with him off the books for sure though unless he's bucked up his ideas.

Well I think they're pretty reasonable signings myself (with the exception of Eastwood who I know nowt about). Sure it isn't as exciting as hearing we have signed Austin, Parker and Malouda, but those we have signed will provide a good solid foundation for the team. And that is something we have lacked as our established 'stars' (i.e. Pedersen, Dann, Dunn, Formica) have had marginally more effect than the overpriced 'marquee' signings (i.e. Murphy, Etuhu). It will be a long haul to get back to the Premier League, and some don't realise that.

Still nothing about these unsubstanciated signing rumours then.

A simple imo changes the entire post.

My two penny's worth, good championship style players and may work out well for us. We have bought Pl players and look how that has worked out for us?

Looking forward to the season now under a manager who clearly has integrity and love for the club, let's hope the players show a similar passion.

Well MM, I'm looking forward to this season.

we have Bowyer who has gone about things very quietly so far. 3 signings in so far with another player coming in. Taylor and Judge are good signings as is Jones if this the player we looking to sign either today or early next week.

We still have Rhodes, Rochina, Dann, Hanley, Henley, Kean, Judge, King, Taylor, Lowe, Williamson, Best, Etuhu which is the based IMO of a good Championship with couple more signings and some players from our Academy like Edwards, O'Sullivan, etc

and more important getting rid of the players Bowyer doesn't want at BRFC which is Bowyer biggest problem and job.

If Bowyer gets the squad he wants then hopefully we can push towards the playoffs spots. The Championship is the most unpredictable league I've seen.

Mercerman, You want to be downhearted about Rovers and our chances of promotion then that's your choice but doesn't mean that all Rovers fans are.

So far no bids in for Rhodes. no official Bids for him or any transfer request from Him asking to leave or any media article saying he wants to leave.

Football is all about opinions and it would be a very boring world if we all thought the same way.

These signings remind me of the old days when we signed the likes of Alan Fettis, Richard Brown, Ronnie Hildersley, Andy Needham etc. IMO, cast-offs who brought little to the party but they were cheap.

Unbelievable where we are now shopping.

I'm having a bit of fun sir, I don't get on people's backs on here. Its not my game. It's Friday night, open another bottle of red and chill out.

Fair enough, point taken.

The problem is, Mercerman is negative about everything and picks fault in everything, whereas you are unable to criticise anything at the club, even if it is clearly a bad idea. Although at least you don't pretend you know things you don't!

I can understand your views on this though. The problem is the number of wasters that are impossible to shift. However, we can hopefully get a first full season out of Kean, a full productive season from Rochina, people like Judge and Taylor who can hopefully be more productive than last season, where we used a whole host of crap players in midfield, including Bruno and Markus Olsson. Williamson is quite productive in midfield and is going in to a first full season, Henley can hopefully get an injury free run at right back and Jones would be an excellent addition. However Lowe is nowhere near good enough, I disagree with anyone who thinks otherwise.

I am still unsure as to how well we will do, hopefully the season will be much more stable, but much depends on keeping Rhodes etc and also who we bring in. I also hope players like Etuhu, Best and Murphy, assuming that they are impossible to move on, can have a good pre-season, get the crowd on their side and at least contribute within the squad. I think Reading will be the team to beat, as they will maintain their squad, no doubt playing more to Le Fondre's strengths, and the signing of Drenthe will either be crucial or go horribly wrong.

just had an horrible thought .... what if Jordan Rhodes was sold in order to pay up the contracts of the likes of Murphy and Etuhu ..... knowing our financial situation , it is possible

Fettis was a reserve keeper who didn't let us down on the odd occasion he was required, Brown was solid for the level we were at then and hardly a first choice.

If you're going to try and slag signings off then they are poor examples IMO. Need to realise where we are and who we can attract that will benefit the squad.

Remember Tim Sherwood signing for us as a Norwich reject and hardly getting a game when we were at this level?

Bobby Mimms was a joke keeper to many, never did much wrong at this level when signed.

Chris Price? Scott Sellars? Unknown, cheap signings, also two of favourite all time players. Samba, Nelsen, Berg, Tugay. All not known or not rated when signing.

I'm quoting success stories because I choose to, could easily quote failures. Depends how you view the world I suppose.

Some fair points.

However, supporters of the last 20 years or so wont recall the darker days of the previous 25 to 30 years. Unfortunately, I do and what we are doing now has a familiar ring to it. I desperately hope that I am wrong - they were very hard times, however, unlike now, there was a real togetherness about those associated with Rovers.
