My Newcastle mate rates him. I'd take him here for sure.

Been speaking to couple of mates who are Newcastle fans and said he is player who keep it simple and always gives 100% whether he playing Centre Back, Full Back or Centre Midfield. .and they rated him but he doesn't have the quality they need in midfielder. rumours up there in the Newcastle papers that want about 1 mil to 1.5 mil for hi,. they are suppose to be looking at Diame from West Ham according to press reports

Personally, I'm just saying I'd take him, have no idea if it's even a rumour or not.

Marc Albrighton was linked on twitter the other day. That's probably also bullsh*t.

But I'd take him as well.

Better winger than Lawrence and Gallagher IMO of course

Holt, of Norwich, wants to move up north to be nearer his family in Carlisle. If affordable, we should be all over that! Swap for Olsson?

Grant Holt has had a taste of the PL and will want more ..... that type of 30 something player is fine by me

If we did sell Rhodes then Holt would be a great replacement. Can't afford both though.

I wouldn't be surprised if Newcastle and Everton were sniffing around though, both are a bit toothless up front and would be close to home for Holt. Not really any other northern clubs left in the PL that would want him, so he may have to drop down a division.

We could afford him in a swap deal for Olsson I reckon. That's even if we're interested though.

We haven't even spent the £50 million war chest that Nixon promised us, course we can afford it man!!!

I dunno. We'd probably have to pay him around £40k a week, he's a proven PL striker. Olsson won't be on anywhere near that.

Anyway we couldn't play Holt and Rhodes together as they play in the same spaces.

Holt wouldn't come.

This. Blown away that people are justifying him not coming on the basis that he's a similar player to Rhodes. As though the fact that we're probably one of the least attractive work environments in the top three tiers at the minute wouldn't put people off!

Haven't we!

Maybe not all on signings.

Since Nixon said that, we've received over £30mil for Jones and Samba alone, as well as realeasing players on big wages.

We should still have that £50mil available, Alan said so, so it must be true.

Hang on...it's on the basis that he wants to return to the north to be near his family in Carlisle.

He doesn't have many options in the PL, most of the northern clubs have dropped out. Only Everton and Newcastle are semi-realistic destinations but is he good enough for those two?

If he REALLY wants to return to north then he might have to drop down a division. There wouldn't be many clubs that could offer him a salary he'd accept - Wigan and Bolton maybe.

Possibly Sunderland too?

Ah yeah. Totally forgot about Sunderland. Might be the most realistic of the lot actually, he'd ease the burden on Fletcher.

All of which might be true. What I was getting at was the relative arrogance of people on here believing that we wouldn't be interested in him because of his perceived similarity to Rhodes. Grant Holt is a top flight footballer and, irrespective of his alleged desire to be closer to his family, the presumption that we'd be the ones to shut down the deal after the public omnishambles of the last 12 months baffles me.

This morning's LT is reporting that Rovers are interested in Gallagher but is not this utility player we are close to signing.

Also says Nahki Wells from Bradford City is on Bowyer's List of possible striking options.

Also says Murphy and Formica are among a number of players who Rovers will let go if they can find a club willing to take on their wages.

and Nuno Henrique has gone on loan to Arouca.

Not sure about Gallagher and Wells to be honest. The second part of the story is good though.

Wells impressed me in the games I watched Bradford in last season. Granted it was only their cup games but he certainly appeared to have something. Don't know enough about him but happy to take GB's judgement on it.

I'd take Gallagher and wellis over goodwillie and Gomes. Plus that would reduce our wage bill as Gomes and goodwillie are big earners.

Gallagher is too inconsistent for me. He may be an ex-Rover and all the rest of it, but he is not that reliable.
