CapeTownRover Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 any other former Rovers players, that we are looking to bring back? i have no problem with Judge coming back, but no to Gallagher. I like Paul, but we need to broaden our thinking a bit here. i dont mind lower league players coming in, because more often than not, its those players that put a shift in for the entire 95 mins. 100% effort will ultimately bring reward.

LeChuck Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 All of which might be true. What I was getting at was the relative arrogance of people on here believing that we wouldn't be interested in him because of his perceived similarity to Rhodes. Grant Holt is a top flight footballer and, irrespective of his alleged desire to be closer to his family, the presumption that we'd be the ones to shut down the deal after the public omnishambles of the last 12 months baffles me. Fair enough. If it wasn't for wanting to move north I'd agree it was ridiculous. But if we were the only northern club to put a decent offer to him then who knows? It depends on how badly he does want to be closer to his family. There may be interest in him already and he could be doing a Robbie Savage to push through a move. It wouldn't be the first time that he's tried to quit Norwich.

Holt is decent, but what do we do with Leon Best, Goodwillie, and Nuno Gomes? at some point, IF we bring in a guy like Holt, do we cut our losses and shift from our other players to make room. So far we are just adding and adding, but nobody seems to be going. i know its early still, but if there are no takers for the likes of Good Willie, Gomes, Formica etc, then we are going to have problems, before the season starts. So, if this is not sorted out, then we could have many unhappy players, who may just cause problems off the field.
blueboy3333 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Don't really understand why we'd want Gally back. He's technically very good but never really contributes much. We've enough of those types already. Souey once called him a 'big head' in the LT. Classic Souey man-management! Holt wouldn't come. Holt will go where the money is, just like Best, Etuhu and Murphy. Dropping down a division won't be a problem if the money's the same. Holt has spent the majority of his career in the lower leagues, which is where Rovers should be looking for players, as there are obviously good players there.

tugay5 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Anyone else heard that the utility man is James perch from Newcastle. If so I think it's a shrewd signing.
G Somerset Rover Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I can see a club taking a punt on Formica (although we certainly won't get our £3 million + ridiculous agents fee back) but Murphy? He'll bleed us dry before agreeing to leave.
rog of the rovers Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Gallagher for Goodwillie seems a no brainer to me. Goodwillie has shown nothing in a Rovers shirt.
T.J.Newton Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 We'll have Derbyshire and tiny Taylor back next.
blueboy3333 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I wonder who'll be leaving if Gallagher comes then? My guess would be Goodwillie going back to Scotland. They've already rejected an approach fron Dundee Utd on loan because they couldn't afford his wages. Can't imagine anyone in Scotland, bar Celtic could afford them. His best hope is someone in the championship, like Blackpool. He'd do well for someone as a striker, he's never had the chance with us. It looks like we're going to be stuck with a lot of deadwood thanks to Kean. We mustn't be nasty to him though
rigger Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Gallagher for Goodwillie seems a no brainer to me. Goodwillie has shown nothing in a Rovers shirt. We have seen Gallagher at his best, personally I didn't think it was quite good enough. As you say Goodwillie has shown nothing, but the potential could be there. The state the club is in at the moment, I would say take a risk on potential. What are people going to do if it flops, Laugh at us !
neophox Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Who is the utility player to sign? Can't Believe there are no leaks?
davulsukur Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 A lot of rumblings about it being James Perch but not sure where those rumours came from.
Clitherover Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 A lot of rumblings about it being James Perch but not sure where those rumours came from. Sounds a bit fishy to me...
Lurid Coat Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Sounds a bit fishy to me... I heard he is angling for a move.
LeChuck Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Oh come on, not another thread that descends into rubbish puns. You lot really are making a rod for your own back.
bringdunnback Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Just a guess, could be Stephen Ward at Wolves who is the true definition of a utility player. O'Hara available at Wolves, I would like us to see if Sakho (sp?) is available.

Jimmy612 Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Come on guys, there's a time and a plaice for this
BigUts Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like the idea of Perch. Good 'school' of thinking!
