[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

Centre midfield is an area that really needs sorting out. Perhaps that'll be the next area we'll go for now we have a couple of wingers, with defensive players close to coming in. I hope so, as Williamson was surprisingly competent, but there is no real flair or drive in that area.

How on gods green earth did Robbo manage to bag a two year extension? More to the point, how come no one knew??

Lots and lots of silly contracts dished out under this regime, it will be interesting to see if we can shift some of them and their bloated long term contracts

He signed a 5yr contract in 2008 but I think it was revised in January 2011 during the period when Jerome Anderson was helping Venkys out for free. Hence the possible extension clauses. I don't think John Williams would have given Robinson a contract for 7 yrs.

Havent seen any improvement whatsoever on last season so far, through this summers transfer activity.

On playing staff yes i would agree with you , but even though the players signed so far are ( with maybe the exception of Kane) less than appealing . would you not agree that the general feeling around the club and fans is a massive improvement on last year?

I have to say been delighted with the transfer so far. Crazy to see some aren't happy with the business we have done. They clearly live in the clouds with Venky's, and Steve Kean thinking that Ronaldinho is still on his way over to sign for us....

But in all seriousness for anyone who has followed League One, and the Championship last season they will know that in Chris Taylor who I have seen play most home games at Millwall, we have a absolute gem of a winger. In Judge we have League One player of the year, and a man who was linked to bigger, and better clubs than us. Those 2 signings alone are amazing.

Todd Kane coming back is awesome as well, it will pave the way to sell Orr, Ribiero at RB on to whoever wants them.

Dunn getting a new contract is fantastic as well. I keep reading people saying he is past it bla bla bla. But what he offers off the field is far more important. Also his influence in some of the games we played was vital to our survival.

i think stoke is linked with crewe's luke murphy. not our danny murphy

Signing for Wolves. fee around 1.5 mil according to Express and Star(Wolves local paper). Had talks with them today

Whats happening about signing Jones or has he gone elsewhere?

Rovers/Bowyer still talking to Jones and his agent.

But still a free agent.

Also can we all just please get a f***ing sense of realism here. We should not now expect promotion, with this squad we are a comfortable mid table championship squad. Gary Bowyer has a MASSIVE job of rebuilding this squad, of which could take up to 2-3 years.

We now have to hope Gary bowyer is up to the task. This is a rebuilding process of which this STILL GREAT CLUB can get through.

Chaddy you state Rovers/Bowyer are still talking to Jones and his agent & he is still a free agent where have you heard this?. Do you have any indication on when he will make up his mind?.

No he doesn't is the simple answer.

Chaddy I'd love to go for a beer with you lad,. Come out with some bull poo, however I can imagine you proper believe yourself. You'd be a laugh.

I honestly think your going to be surprised by this season. Hard work is what you need in this league. We're buying the hard working type of players by all accounts, add to that one or two of the young lads coming through and shining. I really believe we're going to have a good season

I tend to agree that the new signings will surprise a few. But I'd still be amazed if we're in contention for promotion. The mess this club has got in will take a good while to sort out. Still, this close season has shown some signs of promise and that is a huge leap forward from recent years.

I have only posted what Bowyer has said in past couple of weeks to Radio Lancs and the Lancs Telegraph. plus also look at Chris Flanagan twitter page. The Lancs Telegraph Rovers reporter.

I loosely agree with this statement but I genuinely believe that anyone who fights to hang in there has a chance...Bolton showed that last season.

I believe that our experience of the league from last season will stand us in good stead and I'm gonna stick my neck out and predict we'll be there or there abouts come the end of the season!

Apologies for the last not being transfer related...I think our business has been good so far...any movements on the utility player?? My understanding from the article in the LT and Flanagan is that the utility player is as well as our interest in Jones and Veseli...

i expect and demand a top 6 challenge with the squad we have got, and i suspect so does jordan rhodes if we want him to stick around. 2 or 3 years?, think you better `get real`, as if we ain`t promoted before then, then the club is blatently in deep sh*t..

That's a bit rude, he's only posting what he reads elsewhere. Time to get some manners 'lad'.

I've never really understood why Chaddy takes so much grief, I don't know him personally but he seems a decent guy, is obviously Rovers daft and spends hours pumping Nicko, Kamy the LT etc for information to pass on to you guys??

Keep up the good work Chaddy, i always smile when you're hounding Nicko :)

Because he has a penchant for calling anyone "pathetic" if they don't share his unbridled optimism?

No, far to many people on this forum, state things as though they 'know it' to be true. When they have clearly just read it from a newspaper article of which has been produced through lazy journalism.

And 'lad', what would you rather me say? Mate? He's not my mate, so I won't call him as such, he's 28 years old, therefore he is still a young lad, pretty simple really.

You expected the same last season. That went well.

It's difficult to expect anything in this league. So many clubs might feel they have a right to challenge the top 6 - Birmingham, Blackpool, Bolton, Brighton, Derby, Ipswich, Leeds, Leicester, Middlesbrough, Notts Forest, QPR, Reading, Watford, Wigan...

We don't have a divine right to finish above any of those.

Ah ok must have missed those posts...but tbf there's quite a few people who post on here can be put in that category.

Still waiting to see when we are going to offload some of the overpaid dross at the club.

IIRC there was an article going around last season (might have been Cryer at the LT) that said that revenue coming into the club was barely covering the wages of Rhodes, Murphy and Etuhu.

I know we have sent some of the loan players back but how much of an impact that has had in terms of a reduction in our wage bill is questionable considering a lot of the time a parent club covers some of the wages of the loan player. Also keep in mind that even though we have signed a few free transfers their wages won't be free, they will be added to the wage bill.

So where is the offloading? Who are we going to see sold?

It's always bugged me that we rarely 'sell' our unwanted players for good money, I mean players like Andy Cole who went on to play for a number of years yet we let him leave for nothing, even Keith Andrews, we bought him for nearly £1.5m then he became an international with Premiership experience, yet he went for nothing.

Shefki Kuqi going to Palace for £2.5m is the exception to this!
