[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

Recommended Posts

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but having thought about this summer, it does seem counterintuitive to be paying up contracts this early. I can understand fears about bringing players in with none leaving, but you can't be hanging around waiting for players to leave before bringing in new faces.

Bowyer will have confidence in his pre-season schedule (you would hope) and will want as many targets to be a part of as much of that as possible. Allowing D Murphy, Etuhu etc to be a part of it isn't a massive problem. If it's looking like you'd have to be laying out large sums to get rid of folk, you may as well see if they're of any use. Last season's performances might well show that they're not, but who's to say that whatever happens at Brockhall this summer can't rejuvenate those underperformers. I wouldn't be too surprised to see a few of them stick around and, indeed, be different players next season.

Haha! That link shows how misguided I am!

I hope so , and i've even re-newed my ST , but ..... i'm wise enough to expect the worse with venkys

Todd Kane in at right back and Henley to left back and that is a decent side. Big names on the bench too: Dunn, Gomes, Best, Etuhu, Jones, Givet?, Robinson, Rochina, Pedersen.

Agreed, Olsson isn`t interested anymore, rather play Henley and Kane.

Don't take it the wrong way - I have a lot of time for Gomes, amazing player. Just not suited to the championship at his age. Its too demanding physically. Need his wages off the bill.

I understand he is not a first option but he played much better than Murphy played last year in the few chances he had.

However, I still see a lot of people here supporting Murphy for another season. For me, he should be the first player to leave...

I have a feeling that we didn't pay off all of Nuno's contract as it was a mutual termination so I think Nuno would have agreed a lower package just to get to leave.

One down, god knows how many to go.

Cheers Shebby, Kean and Anderson for the endless amounts of reserves we have to now get rid of.

Nuno Gomes has terminated his contract after a chat with Bowyer. That's one of the higher rollers gone ... Keep up the good work.

If he has terminated it and not asked for it to be paid off then it does show he deserves respect, obviously just wants to play and enjoy it.

This is what Bowyer said (no indication of financial settlements) -

Nuno is a model professional, who has been a fantastic influence on the younger players at the club and has been a pleasure to work with.

I fully understand that at this stage in his career he wants to play regular football, but unfortunately I cant give him those guarantees.

I spoke to Nuno about the situation and we have agreed to terminate his contract so that he is free to source other options in order to prolong what has been a long and distinguished playing career.

I thank him for his dedicated services and wish him all the best in the future.

I'd hope that a few more of our higher earning fringe players have one of these chats over the next 7-14 days and move on.

According to a sports editor in Stoke, Murphy has turned down Wolves in order to go to Rovers. Not really a great surprise. Contract should be sorted over the weekend.

My only concern is that a prem may come in with a late offer, someone like Villa or Stoke.

i honestly wouldn`t be that bothered if it did mean that, he took a good corner, but didn`t impress me that much with his one footed play..

Does your seat face the pitch, Sax?

Wrong player in wrong league at wrong time of age .... apart from that thank you and Good Luck Nuno

was awful against crystal palace in the penultimate game, the invisable man..

Does your seat face the pitch, Sax?

yes, and he was so one footed and turned that much to get on his preferred foot, i thought he would screw himself into the turf..

In certain games you could even do this. I cant help think the movement in midfield would be that much better and finally could see Murphy able to pass in the manner he did for many years. It could actually be a midfield to control games, L Murphy is a very dynamic type of player capable of getting up to support Rhodes and contributing with some goals. Judge and Taylor may well contribute and I would have confidence in the final ball being better. Then if its not working you have much better options to change it, remove murphy introduce rochina or dunn etc. Put in hopefully a fit Best up along Rhodes etc

Kean

Henley, Dann, Hanley, Olsson

Murphy

Judge, L.Murphy, Williamson, Taylor

Rhodesu

Get rid of the Portuguese (could keep the winger), formica, ethuhu, robbo, orr, etc.

I would never propose any team with danny murphy in it. Just get rid.

You would assume Murphy is an alternative to Jones. He's a box-to-box player who chips in with goals, so not really a partner for Jones.

.................. Kean

Kane . Hanley . Dann . Henley

............... Williamson

........ Judge ...... Murphy

. Rochina ..................... King

................. Rhodes

Robinson, Lowe, O'Connell, Etuhu, Dunn, Taylor, Best

That would be my preferred line-up for starting the season (assuming Olsson goes). Judge and Murphy both capable of scoring and creating from the central midfield, Williamson is a tidy ball winner in front of the back four and Rochina and King will support Rhodes from the wings.

We could do with some experienced CB cover, but other than that if Murphy signs this weekend then I wouldn't be concerned if the season started immediately. Excellent work by Bowyer to get a lot of issues sorted already.

i like the policy of bringing in the young hungry star performers from league 1. better than signing older duds from prem clubs. that`s not dismissing the possibilty of bringing in someone from the prem who can make a differance though(like hughes and berkovic did for us way back when)

bowyer is impressing me at the moment, just hope it works on the field where it matters, rather than on paper..

Problem there is wages. The good things about bringing League One/Championship players in is that the wages will be far lower. I don't think we're in a position to bring Prem players in unless we can somehow get rid of someone like Danny Murphy.

maybe we could do something on loan in the window later in the season if we are involved in the promotion race then. to help boost our push.

  • Backroom

By all accounts at the time he signed he was on 10k a week. Not to be sniffed at but there are some bigger contracts which need shifting. I liked Gomes. We played some our better stuff with him in the side and he linked well with rhodes.

He was good at the start but abysmal in the second half of the season, maybe due to limited chances but he's not going to be first choice so would struggle for consistency

His performance against Millwall was the worst of an awful bunch he didnt find one five yard pass
