[Archived] possible transfer targets summer 2013

Recommended Posts

I will continue to use this point:

Friedel was a Liverpool reject. Tugay was a Rangers reject. Samba was a Berlin b-team reject. Nelsen came from the MLS before it was even half-decent.

Who's to say that we're buying L1 standard players just because they are from that league? Judge them on how they play here.

Friedel was a international, had played in Turkey under Souey and for Gala.

Tugay was an international, and had played champions league football, had also played under the manager before

Nelsen was MLS poty

Samba came on trial, was assessed and we we risked £300k, as a premier league team, on him, similar price to Righters.

If you want to get out of this league, the evidence suggests you need proven quality at this level, not league 1 gambles, as much as id like them to succeed.

unlike the gulf between prem and championship, there's very little difference between most league 1 teams and most championship teams,

I think general fitness and having the right mentality comes into play more at this level with the added games and some of the more dire away grounds and this is what Bowyer seems to be addressing with the players hes going/gone for(we already have plenty of fancy dan players)

Everything you wrote in that sentence is contradicted by the fact that none of those players were proven in the Premier League, and one of them was even deemed a complete flop at that level.

The original point i was answering, is that as a policy, signing cheap players from League 1 is not the way to go.

If you see an outstanding individual, fair enough, but I dont see that as being our transfer policy this summer.

Although I gave a response on Friedel etc, I fail to see the significance here.

The last time we were in this league we got promoted by buying / loaning players from the Premier League, or the same league.

And Blackpool, Burnley, Crystal Palace, Norwich etc etc did it with Championship cast offs and players who got promoted with them from League 1.

The Championship is all about momentum, as the overall quality is very low, much lower than the last time we got promoted.

Jokin aside boys, several people have tried to give you a nudge...THIS IS A TRANSFER THREAD not a d**k measuring one!!

As for bullying!?? Anyone who is enough of a keyboard warrior to believe that they bully people on here needs to get a grip!

Please let's get back to transfers....Luke Murphy update?? Anyone??

Ah, the "Abbey Argument."

That's not what I said at all. Try having another read, and this time see if you can get to the second sentence.

I see you fail to answer my points.

Without resorting to pettiness, do you agree or disagree that a policy of bringing in cheap players from League 1 is what we should be doing in order to gain promotion? It may not be the only way to gain promotion, but Id sooner we look at players dropping down from the premier league, as a policy, if we are to have a policy.

I don't understand peoples problems with signing Judge and Murphy from League 1. They were both in the league 1 team of the year and Judge was voted 2nd best whilst Murphy was voted 4th. They are both good signings (should Murphy sign) who are willing to put the effort in and I'd rather have them than Danny Murphy and Etuhu, who are both supposed to be Prem quality

I don't see £1m on a League 1 player from Crewe as being "cheap." In terms of a policy, we should try and buy players who are better than the ones we currently have. From what I've read, but admittedly not yet seen, that's what we're currently doing.

You're talking as if the only players we have signed are only experienced in League 1 or below. This isn't true. You're argument with comparing this situation to what we did when we signed Friedel, Tugay etc etc is irrelevant.

i like the policy of bringing in the young hungry star performers from league 1.

This is what i was arguing against.

I never come on here and pretend to know things but I know the following to be true, as it something that I have been told from someone who works within the club (coaching staff, of first team squad).

Bowyer does not rate Scott Dann whatsoever and is looking to get rid ASAP. He has already decided that Hanley and Osullivan will be his centre back pairing this coming season.

Secondly, Venkys London ltd made a profit of £1.75 million this year, so talk of debt from BRAG is absolute bull @#/?. They have been pumping in millions a month and are definitely willing to continue to do so until promotion is secured.

They have made horrendous decisions, but believe me there trying to rectify these.

Thirdly Mr Singh will be given a new role within the club, if he is not happy with the new role then he's out.

Because people just read "League 1" and make these preconceptions based on that. Our transfer policy should be trying to sign players who are good, regardless of what division they came from.

One of the best Championship players might not make the grade in the Prem, or be a lower-end Prem player. One of the best League 1 players will be at least mid-table Championship quality.

Crewe produce quality youngsters for fun and Murphy sounds highly rated.

Any lower-end Prem player willing to step down to the Championship will cost more than they're worth eg Best. Taking the best players from other Championship clubs will cost a lot of money also.

I appreciate you may have got your youth players mixed up but Venkys making a profit ... Wow!

Like D Murphy, Best and Etuhu. The evidence is there that this doesn't work.

How are we bringing in 'cheap' players from league 1? Taylor had a great season with Millwall, was out of contract, hence he was free. Will be a very good signing. Judge was allso out of contract, hence he was free, and was voted 2nd best player in League 1. I'd describe them as excellent value, rather than 'cheap'. The goalie from Pompey will be 3rd choice, and is free. Luke Murphy is wanted by other Championship teams and is regarded by crewe fans as just as good as Westwood, who had a good season in the Prem. Murphy has only a year left on his contract so £1m is hardly 'cheap'. it doesn't matter where they come from, it's how they play when they get here.

Forest are after Patterson from Walsall. I don't think he even made into the League 1 team of the year. I trust Billy Davies knows what he's doing though.
