I know Nixon usually writes a load of rubbish, and seems to have it in for us in recent times, but the half baked notion that Bolton would be willing or able to pay 12m for Rhodes, or that he would choose them over other suitors, really is stretching the bounds of credibility even by his standards. Plus as others have said Bolton have to comply with FFP regulations just as much as we do.

Bottom line with this I would have thought is that if the only sanction for not complying with FFP regulations is a transfer embargo you'd be better putting up with that for a while than giving away your better players, (or in Rhodes case, one really crucial player) on the cheap. Less valuable or peripheral players are a different matter entirely. (Has no-one paid off Pedersen's contract yet?)

That's it for me again until the start of the season. Hopefully! :o

True - but I also think there is an argument that Rhodes lack of pace or ability to hold the ball up - also had an impact on our ability as a team.

You could also argue that our style didn't get the best out of him by getting him to play a role he's not suited too. A system that allows him to play as he wants might see him score more.

Ah yes, that convincing "His 28 goals held us back last season" one.

Compelling stuff.

Correct Majiball, that just highlights the difference in a negative and positive outlook

On the Championship fantasy football league website, it shows the list of most picked players for the teams (by fans of all clubs).

Guess who's top...? ;)

Some folks won't appreciate what we've got until it's gone. Then they be the ones who bellyache the most.

True to an extent...... but then there was Alan Shearer!

btw After going through him leaving in 96 losing Jordan Rhodes won't even register on the same scale.

the club does not register on the same scale

In the case of shearer and Rhodes, both gave/ give the team a vital edge over the opposition because both know where the goal is. Shearer was a vastly superior footballer, but the the whole team was vastly superior . I think the impact of Rhodes leaving for another championship team in terms of what it would do to our goals tally, what it would say about our club and how far it would strengthen them is every bit as devastating where we are now as shearer was then. A premiersh club would be different but there aren't any of those looking like signing him atm

Personally I think the loss of Rhodes will be a bigger loss to the team than Shearer was. Certainly not as big a loss emotionally, nor am I saying Rhodes is half as good as Shearer was.

But after Shearer we still had a very promising strike partnership in Gally and Sutton - 2 strikers you felt could and would give you goals. We have no one like that if Rhodes goes - i.e. strong strikers for the level we're playing at. Back then you felt the midfield could still contribute goals - not too sure how many goals are in our current midfield (hopefully Taylor and Judge will alleviate this problem.) Heck I cannot think of a time when the loss of one player would so reduce our attacking options.

Wrong. Teams create chances. Individuals miss them.

The target has to be lets create more chances for Jordan to capitalise on and lets do away with all this rubbish about defensive midfielders.

Give it a rest JAL. Nobody agrees with you. All proper teams have at least one defensive midfielder.

I think the point he makes is right if the views of most people that have seen us in pre season are right. Rhodes will be feeding of scraps again, what a frisking waste of a quality striker.

It seems after we gave up the chase for Luke Moore there was no altnative.

We started today with two defensive midfielders, that does not bode well.

I will be very surprised if Bolton Wanderers sign Rhodes. It's not going to happen.

I will be even more surprised if Rhodes stays at Blackburn Rovers though. I reckon some mid-table Premier League club will come sniffing around and he'll be off. Sad fact of life in modern football.

Bolton according to this morning papers are selling Mills and Mears to raise funds for new signings. so how the hell can they afford Rhodes and meet the FFP.

I can't see any PL teams coming in for Rhodes with Rovers asking price being 12 mil plus.

Newcastle are chasing Bent with asking price of 5 mil and Remy, Gignac, Gomis aswell.

Fulham after Bent.

Hull dont have the money for him.

Villa dont need him

Sunderland look like they are chasing cheap overseas targets.
