I was about to make the same point. We supposedly can't afford an installment on the Rhodes transfer yet we seem to have oodles of dosh available to pay people off left right and centre.

If a prem team comes in then that's a different matter. Bolton are no better than we are. Wigan will be in the same situation as us next season if they don't go up. They'll have a big wage bill and will have to try and shift their big earners.

I'd be surprised if he goes now. People have been talking about him leaving for Bolton since July but nothing happened. Lots of talk, very little action. If premier league teams are involved then i'd be worried. Wigan? I'm not getting too concerned.

Besides anything else, he's not worth the £10m+ it'll cost to buy him.

If our owners need the cash then they usually make sure the transfer fee isn't lower than their real value. Apart from Nzonzi who probably kicked up a big fuss. That means we're probably talking upwards of 7/8 million which only we are stupid enough to spend on one player when we're in the C'ship.

If it's Rhodes who might leave for more cash, then we're probably talking upwards of 40 grand a week, which only we are stupid enough to spend on one player when we're in the C'ship.

Rhodes will get goals but he wouldn't guarantee promotion for either Bolton or Wigan. You still have to finish ahead of all but one of QPR, Forest, Leicester, Watford, Bolton/Wigan etc.

If Rhodes goes it'll be nothing more than a good guess. Same as anyone could say anyone is leaving and it could perhaps happen.

Oh and for anyone quoting Nixon. That guy was slating anyone daring to say Rhodes was signing for us, saying that we'd screwed up the deal and Huddersfield wouldn't sell.

If Nixon starts saying Rhodes isn't leaving and Wigan can't afford him, then begin to worry.
