Got to say I thought Shaws comment in the Telegraph was amateurish at best:

“If it was a Premier League club it might be a different case because Jordan would probably want to go"

Why say that? It just encourages bids you silly little man, you're out of your depth Mr Shaw.

I'm fairly certain that is the idea Gav

As for Leon Best, I posted over the weekend that I could see him leaving. He is not happy about being a substitute and with the current cost cutting, he is too much money to be a unused substitute.

If Bowyer can ship him out, even if it is out on loan (with a club covering his entire wages) that will allow him to bring in at least one striker.

Why didnt Dundee cover Goodwillies entire wage Kammy to believe what you've just said about Best wages being fully covered elsewhere ?

Who's going to replace Best ?

There are two very good reasons for that Jal...............

1) Why would Dundee want to pay anything towards Guddies wages? Seeing that he is actually playing for their greatest rivals (just across the road) DUNDEE UNITED!!!!!!

2) This arrangement was made primarily to suit the convenience of the player and BRFC; therefore it is right that Rovers should pay his wages.

Got to disagree with you there theno. Generally speaking you are spot on but I thought on Saturday Rhodes did really well and worked very hard. The timing of his runs was great I thought.

I agree too Rhodes played the lone striker role really well and kept hold of the ball

I hadn't noticed glen. His finishing isn't a problem but he's still crap with his back to goal and his all round play 'leading the line is poor. If he wants to improve then those are the areas he needs to do it. On Sat he scored two fine goals and then disappeared for the other 88 mins. If he wants to be the best it really is down to him.

He can do that every game for me. 88 minutes of bugger all plus 2 goals will win us most games.

Wonder what every other Rovers fan would think about this.

What IS there to make of it? If the parent club wants the loan, no wages necessarily paid. If it's the loaning club's desire for a loan then wage contributions are usually offered in compensation for the player's unavailability to the club eho pays him.

Simples.

'One swallow does not a summer make' Bob. The CH had been sent off, their team was disjointed and (apart from the blond lad) dispirited and in disarray and by 45 mins the game was effectively over. Playing in those circumstances is as easy as it gets in football. I judge a player on what he is like when the going is tough.... that is why I admired David Perkin's performance and contribution so much. Without him coming on we could have had a cricket score.

Agreed about judging players when the going gets tough. A pal of mine was a scout for Man City and he made a habit of watching players in away games.

Rhodes is an out and out goal machine. Goals win games, what's not to like, so what if he lacks other qualities, we have plenty playing who have no qualities at all apart from they can run and they can pull on a shirt. I think Rhodes deserves a damn sight more appreciation from the naysayers and doom merchants, we will definitely miss his goals when he eventually leaves.

As bad a player Murphy was for us with his often complete lack of effort, when he got those over the top balls right they were sublime!

Did he indeed , I must have missed those 2 passes ..............

God knows what that equated too in wages !

Plus Rhodes is still fairly young.

And he's been playing in a very average side under awful managers. Of course he can improve some aspects of his game but reality check please...

Appreciate him while we've got him!

Jordan Rhodes reckons he wants to play at top level right? If so he certainly isn't the finished article and needs to strengthen the parts of his game that are weak, and there are plenty of those. Daft thing is that sticking a ball in the net is the God given difficult part whilst leading the line in a 4-5-1, holding the ball up / working the channels / defending from the front are normally the easy bits and can be improved by simple coaching, application and above all else desire. imo he wont achieve his potential until he addresses those points.

Absolutely spot on Tyrone. I knew two ex pros very well. One of them was an ex Scotland captain turned coach/scout and one of them was a rovers scout. Both of them had the same criteria when judging young players. There were basically three things they looked at. The first, obviously was natural talent. Everyone they looked at had that, otherwise, they wouldn't have been there watching them. The second thing they looked for was whether the lad in question had "fire in his belly", - in other words, the desire to get to the very top. If he didn't have that, pure and simple, he wouldn't have made it. The third thing they looked for was his weaknesses. A judgement had to be made here. Every player has weaknesses, but sometimes they are big enough for the scouts to pass him by. Now it's from that, that I always look for the things that might hold a player back.. Some people see that as being negative, but it isn't. It's being realistic.

So, to your original point Tyrone, yes definitely scout players away from home, against the better teams. That will get you nearer to the truth about a player.

As I said originally.... David Perkins. The going was really tough on Sat ...away from home...against a better team ... down to 10 men .... down 2-1 in the game when he came on. imo that lad has some character.

Would you still have noticed him if he didn't have Blonde hair Gordon?

Is he partial to a blonde?

Hee hee. (Would have preferred a smilie, but not available on ipad)

No, sometimes blonde lads just take the eye. I noticed him, he played very well. Very tidy, didn't give the ball away and read the game extremely well. There is a reason though why he's been at this level for a while. I suspect it's just that he neither hurts the opposition, or defends well.

Yep... specially so if it had been red. ^_^

Good point. So in fantasy football you are the manager picking the midfield... would it be him or Danny Murphy?
