[Archived] Jordan Rhodes

Recommended Posts

I watched the lad at Rochdale in the old Fourth Division and he was outstanding, I could see him played one level higher without a problem. When Rochdale missed out in the the play off at Wembley he left to move up to the old third Division. I would have thought that might have been his level but who knows. David Flitcroft ( Barnsley's manager ) would have worked with him at Rochdale and must rate him.

Just read the LT and came across this story. The main body is about Ben Marshall but what worried me was the last paragraph about Rhodes and Newcastle, especially concerning agents offering him up for sale. I don`t know exactly how ITK the author of the article is, but if true, is it the player looking around or the club offering him around?.

"Sources in the north east claim Newcastle have been contacted by agents offering the services of Jordan Rhodes, although the Magpies have currently decided to look elsewhere as they attempt to bolster their strike force. Rovers remain keen to hang on to their star man but are realistic that interest from the Premier League would tempt Rhodes."

That reads as though Rovers are peddling the line that "if a PL clubs comes in..." but are doing there best to drum up some interest in the first place!

Plenty of agents just act independently trying to be go betweens and drum up something so they can get a slice. They try to sound out if there may be any interest from one side then dive to the other and say they can do a deal even when neither side has anything to do with them. It really is a farce.

Why is there even a debate about Jordan Rhodes and whether we should sell him?

We should sell him if we're offered £10 Million but certainly not if we're offered anything less.

If he stays, he scores goals, goals win games, there no simpler way to put that.

I'd take a goal machine like Rhodes over a Roberts or Best type character anyday.

Is anyone really surprised by the Rhodes/Newcastle story, yesterday we had the MD of Rovers literally giving the green light to a Rhodes Premiership move, i reckon Rhodes' agent couldn't get his mobile phone out of his pocket quick enough to start hawking his client round. Agents make money from sales and contract negotiations, Rhodes will be offered to every Premier League club between now and the end of the transfer window.

Newcastle are after Gomis and Demba Ba first after that they may move on to lower targets. I don't think he's the type of striker Newcastle need him and Cisse would not work as a partnership and the football newcastle play is far to direct for him to be much use.

Rhodes being sold wouldn't worry me too much, simply because the quality of the teams performances wouldn't be affected in any great way.

What would worry me though is how Bowyer would spend the money, assuming he was given all of it. A sale could go either way. Results might deteriorate (they couldn't deteriorate much though from what they've been since he's been here and before), or results might improve quite a lot.

I do hate to say it guys but I called this three weeks ago when I said a member of the coaching staff had told me they'd be happy to get their £££ back on Rhodes...

Apparently it's not a £££ issue. The club are happy to let him move for the right money because they believe his head has been half turned and because they aren't impressed with his attitude to training.

Three weeks ago I was slaughtered for saying that...how times have changed!

And for the record AGAIN I don't want us to sell Rhodes because we'll be weaker for it and that is a fact. Even if we signed Billy Sharp and Nahki Wells.

You've got to find it funny when people come out and say that we'd be better off without Rhodes. Come on the lads the only real source of goals for us and no-one will replace that if he ever left. We simply cannot afford any of the decent strikers out there and for me Rhodes as to stay and we have to do everything we can to keep him.

We will never get 10 million pounds for Rhodes so if that's the price Rovers have put on his head then he's going nowhere.

Not sure about the credibility of your 'coaching staff' friend.

Why would Bowyer want to sell someone who scored 25+ goals last year?

Also given Best's recent "sulk" , doesn't that suggest that he's been told that JR is #1 choice?

"it's not a £££ issue" ! That's exactly what it is! If he goes it will be because the club is running up massive costs to cover.

And, ironically, it's usually the same people who accuse Venky's of selling all our best assets.

If a 27 goal a season striker isn't one of our best players, I have no idea who is.

Maybe not.

But the likelihood of us winning many matches without Jordan's undoubtedly important goals would be affected in a great way.

He scores goals now, but we don't win many games. That would make your statement flawed - no?

Undoubtedly.

What was it, 28 league goals last season?

Our team last season was unbelievably poor, without Jordan's goals we would now be sitting in League 1.

If we genuinely want to mount any kind of promotion challenge this season, his goal contributions would be massive.

So yes, we would miss him immensely.
