Don't shoot the messenger here. Shaw is just being honest. No Championship club could hang on to any of their players if any Prem clubs come a calling.

I wasn't, I agree that Shaw was being honest in saying Rhodes would want to go to the Prem if he was given the choice.. I'd question the motives for saying it though.

Doesn't matter if he was being interviewed, the words he used were just idiotic.

Am I the only one here to be thinking that the spending of £8m for Jordan Rhodes last season wasn't the problem? I'd say the problem was the spending of millions on people like Steve Kean, Etuhu and Murphy myself. We'd be in League 1 if we hadn't have spent that £8m whether you think it was an over inflated fee or not.

So according to you, we're happy to sell Rhodes, Best, and King, which in the absence of DJ and Rochina leaves us with .....errrr no available strikers.

Sounds like a plan.

You stick to your stories of him being difficult in training and I'll stick to the evidence of my own eyes of his attitude and demeanour in interviews and what I've seen of him on the pitch ta very much.

Fair enough...you're entitled to your opinion. I actually wish that you were right and I was wrong...

I do know that there IS a plan and that plan at the start of the season was to completely overhaul the squad...a lot has been flushed out and a lot still brought in...

As far as quality of signing goes the bench mark is are they playing? And what do they add? The players GB has bought in my opinion have been fantastic when you look at his expenditure!!

Yes I do think Rovers would let go of King and Dann to get rid of their ego and I also think they'd sell Rhodes for the right ££. In fact I expect 2/3 to go..I just hope we have the time left in the window to but 1 or 2.

The main question is , how many strikers are available at less money who will guarantee 30 goals this season ?

The next question , how many points a season are Jordan's goals worth if we can't get a replacement who can score equal ?

How many strikers have rovers had over the last 20 years who could score 25 plus a season ? They are not that easy to come by !!!

Last summer it was close on 25 million we spent on players , signing on fees ect . Of that money how much of it showed a return ? How much of it have we ended up paying off ?

A Jordan Rhodes sale would spell the beginning of the end of any slim chances this club has ever got of one day playing Premiership football again .

In some people's minds that bird has already flown , but to further weaken the clubs main attacking threat would have us looking over our shoulder at league 1

We cannot kid ourselves , we only stayed up last season after a nervous last month of the season .

We ain't suddenly become a better team over night and our signings to date are not from the top drawer .

If we got £20 million for Rhodes , it would not improve the team on the pitch and that's the conundrum we are at

100% agree

Really? How much money would a manager need in this league then -£40m?

I think your argument falls down right there Glen, along with your view that 30 goals from one player is necessary and guarantees success. It clearly isn't necessary and it clearly doesn't guarantee success. In fact, as we saw last season, we could very well have gone down with a 30 goal a season player. It's not about an individual, it's about having a squad with quality.

Mattie Holmes came in the summer of 95 & played with Shearer for a season.

Those who go on about how we missed out on Dugarry, check his stats. The man never scored more than 5 goals in a single season for any club he ever played for.

I agree about Dugarry, a show pony if ever I saw one. The only thing I saw him do was get kicked up the arse by Andy Todd. Zindane however was another story. The point that losing Shearer wouldn't have been so bad if the money had been used to improve the team in about 3 or 4 other positions is well made.

Worryingly a guy on twitter who is not one for making up rumours is saying a reliable source has informed him that the Rhodes to Wigan deal is done.

I have heard that Jordan Rhodes to Wigan is a done deal. #brfc #sadface

I hope he's wrong, don't forget any money we do get for Rhodes 5.5m has to go straight to Hudds.

If true, this now presents an interesting challenge for GB. As I mentioned last night, I have the feeling that GB would be happy to see Rhodes go PROVIDING that he has his ducks in a row and brings 2 - 3 players in as a replacement. I could be wrong of course (Yes, It has been known)

The worst possible scenario here is that we lose JR on Monday with no time to replace him, putting us in the drastic position of 1 'fit' striker in Best, and DJ still some way off being ready.

The Huddersfield thing too is a problem - more evidence that Shebby et al expected (foolishly) that Rhodes would fire us to promotion last season? We would have had £90m in our back sack and could have paid Hudders no problem. Mis-management and paying over the odds for players was a recurring theme of last year, boy are we feeling the pinch now!

Hudds Are entitled to 5.5?

I believe so from what i''ve read; It's what we still owe from the original fee unless we've paid another installment off recently

I wouldn't normally worry but Michael Taylor aka the marble leaf is generally very good.

Exactly that's what worried me!

If it is true the I can't see Wigan wanting Rhodes playing for Rovers on Saturday which leaves us with the unhappy Best V Bolton. All speculation at the Min. anyway.

They better get their cheque book out sharpish then and push the deal through - Unless Rovers want the money so badly that they bow down to Wigan's every demand throughout the process. Do we or don't we hold the cards here? Or have we made it so obvious that we want to cash in that suddenly clubs are quite blase about the whole thing, knowing that we will get desperate.

It can't be true. Remember what Shelfy said only 2 days ago.

Blackburn Rovers' managing director Derek Shaw has stated that the club have no intention of selling striker Jordan Rhodes to any Championship rival amid reported interest from Wigan.

I can't see us landing a 25 goal a season striker anytime soon.

That wouldn't overly concern me. My priority would be to bring in a striker who can play the lone role well so that we can retain possession more effectively against better teams. Question would be whether the players that play in the 3 behind can chip in enough. As Parson alluded to yesterday, take a look at Cardiff's top scoring chart last year - might just surprise you.
