I have always been confident Rhodes would be here Wednesday and despite interest from Wigan , I fully expect him to remain .

A bid could come in from a Prem club before then, however it would have to be serious money and I just can't see that being the case .

Player happy at Rovers at present , so I can't imagine he will be banging a door down for an exit .

I'm sure this debate will rumble on until the window closes , but I think it's possibly one under the radar which may be the talk of this board come window close , rather than a Rhodes sale

Thanks Glen for update.

Just don't see leaving now.

I do rate Hanley but he is easier and more cheaply replaceable than Rhodes imo. 25+ goal a season strikers are not ten a penny.

They may not be 10 a penny but they also shouldn't cost £8m. Someone put a table together recently of all the players in this league who had scored 30 goals in a season. Most were around the £1m mark iirc.

I'll take the credit for that one Ricky and I'll post it on here tomorrow if I can find it. Btw most were far far less that one million

Rovers summer spending was done and dusted last summer , a big money signing was not even in the offing .

The deal for Rhodes was under exceptional circumstances , was not planned and would not of been repeated elsewhere in the squad .

The talk of 8 million being spent elsewhere was never going to happen . This deal was personally funded by the family , had the deal not happened , they would be 8 million better off .

Seen a few post suggesting if we had spent that money in a few areas we would of been better off , but the truth is Rovers marquee signing was Best , the budget was spent , and it was a one off deal .

Would the sale of Rhodes see the transfer fee reinvested into the squad ???

If I was a betting man the answer would be no .

So on that basis a sale would generate cash but not a replacement .

That's not a gamble worth taking

So if we sell, its for Venky's to remove money from the club?

Have they actually put net money in over their tenure?

In fairness Chaddy he could sign for another team and score against us and you'd still think he wasn't leaving :P

All summer I didn't think he was leaving tbh.

Just listen to Bowyer's interview on Radio player, where he said that Rhodes isn't for sale and he is building a team around him for him to score more goals for Rovers. this has been Bowyer stance all summer.

Correct, i think this is just another scare mongering story to unsettle the club. A lot of people are bitter towards Rovers after the last 3 years despite the fact that most of them have left with a fist full of dollars. Im not saying people haven't heard or been told stuff but it's were it orgionally comes from that is the interesting point. The main people in this are JR himself, GB and the owners, all those seem ok so the rest should go and swivel :)

Hi Mani, i don't dispute anything you have said as it is for the benefit of all of us on here, So when ego's are mentioned it kinda irks me as all footballers have some kind of ego, it's up to the manager to man manage that, (big Sam as an example) i get the impression that team GB also are beginning to get Ego's, we can't keep getting rid or freezing players out just because they may have an egotistical opinion of themselves, normally the rest of the team take the p---ss and that puts an end to it,

Maybe GB should use the players Ego to get the best out of them, now that's man management.

Excellent we are getting somewhere from someone who actually has an insight to the actual goings on at Ewood. thanks

Yes you are right re the above about man management but the overall feeling is that the playing staff needed overhauling..too many taking a wage and not caring...I think the coaching lot still see those issues within some players at the club and aren't willing to back them.

I actually agree with this stance because over a period of time you quickly realise who you can and can't trust to tow the line and that person becomes a disruption..

For me, u either fall in line with the common objective which appears to be a "days pay for a days work" or you ship out...

Hope it puts some perspective on the Ego thing that I mentioned?

Oh and for the record..I desperately do NOT want us to sell JR 1m%

Remember that every manager has their own idea of what role a player should play in a team. Simply scoring goals is no longer good enough in modern day football and this is echoed by many PL clubs who have likes of Defoe, Hernandez an Bent warming their bench because regardless of their goals they offer nothing else in terms of hold up etch etc

This is not necessarily my opinion..I bloody hope we don't sell him because we'll be a lesser team for it..fact

Shane Long and Kevin Doyle sure where good finds for Reading back then...

Shane Long particularly I really like - Strong, extremely fast, can finish, and has that knack of right place right time. Not as clinical as Rhodes perhaps, but certainly a far better all round player.

I don't think anyone knows what's going on at this joke of a club, not even those emplotyed to run it, so don't see any benefit of folk pretending to know things plumping their own egos by dropping in mischievious titbits of "ITK" rumour. Anything could happen between now and Monday and anyone claiming they have any insight can be taken with a pinch of salt. For the record I am going to predict that we sign Kaka and Bale and sell Hanley and Best. if any of that is right I will be claiming ITK status from now on.

No, I don't want to let him go. There are many players I'd want to go before him, but Hanley isn't one of them. Keeping Hanley is (imo) more important than keeping Rhodes, however.

Whilst I rate Hanley, you could replace him, but goals scorers like Rhodes don't come along that often, and if we sell him I'll probably not see another goal scorer of his ilk in my lifetime.

So its madness to even consider selling him before Hanley imo.

Shaerer was(and I think still is) the premier leagues all time greatest goalscorer(he was also a great leader and probably created almost as many as he scored) Rhodes is a proven prolific scorer at this level(but there's been dozens of prolific scorers at this level that couldn't even get double figures when given a chance in the prem)

Rhodes is a great luxury to have in the team and im happy he's here, but he's no Shearer

Nobody said he was a Shearer, but he scores goals, and is the most prolific striker we've had since Shearer, to sell him would be madness.
