Give him service and he'll score in any league, he just has that gift. Sunderland spent £12M on Connor Wickham remember, so it's not so farfetched somebody could go for Rhodes - who has a far better track record than Wickham did at the time.

True, but Wickham gave the impression that he had more of an all round game (Wickham is powerful and skillful) than Rhodes and could develop. You just don't get that impression with Rhodes in my opinion. If he is tightly shackled he lacks the ability to get away from his man...

You also have to factor in that in a mid table or bottom rung prem team you just don't get much support so a player like Rhodes, who struggles to make his own chances, can be seen as an ineffective luxury when you want a player who can fashion chances at set pieces or on the break.

Just my thoughts. Maybe I am living in denial. That said I can't think of any Premier player like Rhodes who has really succeeded in the prem. They all have either a huge amount of pace (Defoe, Owen, Bellamy), a lot of strength (Shane Long, Lambert, Holt, Caroll, Santa Cruz) or a lot of skill (McCarthy, Berbatov, Cantona, Le Tissier) or a combination of two or three of these abilities (Shearer, Henry, Michu, Drogba etc etc).

That said he does have absolutely extraordinary finishing and movement. So maybe that is enough. Doubt it personally....

I mostly agree with this, and it's why I think we'll probably hold onto him. A lower-prem team will want and need more than a poacher for the £8m (minimum) they'd need to pay to get Rhodes. For that reason we should be able to hang onto him, as no Championship club will (imo) stump up the cash for him.

Disagree on Rhodes struggling to create his own chances though - almost all his goals last year he created himself! He certainly didn't have much help from our midfield. In the Prem it would be much harder for him, granted.

"When I first took the job I asked the owners about Jordan Rhodes and they said he was not for sale. As soon as 23:00 BST comes on Monday you will have to talk about something else. He is better than a £10m player for me. He is a goalscorer."

Gary seems pretty sure he's going nowhere.

Well hopefully he's right, but when you have owners who are confused and have history of telling porkies and a Shelving bloke who's begging for bids and a "deal" anything can happen

He creates chances by having the god given instincts to be in the right place at the right time.

Kean was kean gave bolton the goal by being well kean

Thought Jake made a save that he couldnt keep hold of then had to improvise quickly by punching the ball away as the Bolton striker came on top of him.

For Boltons goal two things one was the lack of speed at closing down Bolton from our midfielders to there midfielder who played the ball through, and two the defence and the gap between Dann and Kane that allowed the Bolton striker to exploit the space unmarked in the box as the ball came through to him.

I can't see Rhodes scoring many goals in the prem. If people thought he could then someone would have signed him earlier imo. Very few players have stepped up from the Championship and scored regularly in the Premiership. Lambert and Grant Holt are of this few, and Rhodes just doesn't have his physical ability.

Jog off,

Not always. Quite a few times last season he ran across a defender to score, or squeezed a shot in from a ridiculous angle. There was one where he scored a diving header and wasn't even facing the goal when the ball came in. To say that's just being in the right place in the right time is doing him a massive disservice. Some of his finishes are incredible and chances that he's created solely by being so good at hitting the back of the net.

Kevin Phillips. He is tiny compared to Rhodes but he scored regularly and iirc the golden boot.

Kean made the mistake that could have put Bolton back in the game, if you cant see that well sorry, the rest of the team got him out of jail, Robinson is a far far better goalkeeper no debate, Kean needs to stop his @#/? ups and get back to football cos if we have to depend on him well sorry not at this time we cant.

Just after jordan scored he was waving his shirt to the bolton fans,

Surely that's got to put to bed mercerman and Nicos claims of a move to Bolton

When Rhodes scored his first goal today he showed his Rovers shirt to the home fans in the Darwen end today and point to it.

Rhodes has always said that he is very happy here and his stance has never changed. said this on SSN interview when he was signing Fans Rovers shirts at the Rovers store at Ewood Park

He's had two through balls in two games and put away them both

Have we finally learned to play to his strengths?

Bowyer seems to playing to Rhodes strengths and the team is playing some very good passing and movement football

Unlike his predecessors Bowyer is a smart man, so it wouldn't surprise me if he's trying to mould the team to play to the strengths of our goalscorer.

Bowyer is defo playing to Rhodes strengths and build a team around like he said he would do and create more chances for Rhodes the goal machine

Personally thought Rhodes was superb today. He put in a lot of effort, made loads of good runs and took his goals well. Not sure what else he could do to impress really.

great comments. makes very clever runs and always looking to play of the last man and getting in behind the defender. his link up play is much better and work rate is very good.

Two words - goal machine.

Sell him at our peril.

1000 % correct. Rhodes scores goals. simple as.

Main problem last season was that he was always isolated and heavily marked. We seem intent on getting people forward to support him now which gives him the space to contribute more. He looked top class today which is a big improvement.

totally Agree. Rovers are playing to his style and he is the main man up front

Gary Bowyer's comments after the game have ruled out Rhodes going anywhere now.

For me, if we can keep making chances for him and him scoring them then we have a great chance of making the playoffs.

Even Alan Nixon has just said that Bolton and Wigan have missed out on Rhodes now. Rhodes is staying.

Alan Nixon @reluctantnicko

The people who dithered over Rhodes have got what they deserved. Top player.

Rhodes not going to happen now. He who hesitates etc. Make a bid when u inquired and he doesn't score 4 in 2.

Rhodes is one of those strikers where he'll score 25 in a season and you just don't know how. He's not particularly quick, tall or strong but he just has that instinct. I'm unconvinced that he'll do as well in the premier league but if he does keeps scoring until January then I think a team will take a punt on him. It'll take around £15m to get him which is a huge amount for an unproven striker and is why he's still here now.

Also doesn't seem to get injured much which is a bonus.

With him in our team we stand a decent shot at the play offs I'd say.

Haha.

I wondered when Nixon would switch on backtrack mode.

For a journalist with (you would imagine) some qualifications in English his spelling is poor. He is a charlatan, a fake and yet people still hold him in high regard and take him seriously. Amazing.
