Rover_Shaun Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I remember Tranmere making a spash. Ian Muir wasn't it who shone for them??

perthblue02 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Yeah remember everybody trying to crowd into the allocated Tranmere section when they were playing, was a good laugh with supporters of other teams in and outside of wembley and were we stayed over night, second day slightly fizzled out but think that was due to hangovers. Wembley with Rovers twice in two years who'd have thought that at the time
cn174 Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Fixtures not bad I don't think. Could do with Wigan away being made an early kick off as it is the grand final on the same day - will be a bit of a mad dash from Wigan to Old Trafford! Also wish Yeovil was not the weekend before Christmas!
EPF Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well its my stag do weekend from Fri 14th Feb and its in Brighton. Gutted we play Brighton on the 15th at Ewood. Would love some miracle that both teams ask for a swap
Seggie Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 not a cat in hells chance that game with Burnley will be on a Saturday at 3pm. The police will already be plotting out how to make it even worse than previous games. Maybe, just this once, they could try something different like allowing us supporters to travel (police escort) on the train or by our own coaches. Mrs' birthday on the 9th which is when im presuming the game will be moved to. Trouble is she is one of them. Looks like Im going to be single for the day, therfore no need to buy gifts
EgyptianPete Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Fuxtures are on www.rovers.co.uk for all to see. Dingles H March 8, Sheff Wed H Boxing Day, Leeds A NYD, Wigan H on last day. Why do you care you won't be going ---- Will you
Bundesburn Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Bit off-topic, but David Moyes' first five games are very tough.

Leeds away new years day .... and not many home Tuesday games (I work late on Tuesdays) There all set to default at the minute slats,,,they could move them to Friday night, Sat evening or Sunday for TV...Wigan are in the Europa league so that will more than likely be moved to Sunday,,,sorry to rain on your parade
Derbyshire Blue Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Cant help but wonder how significant that final game at home to Wigan will be,

Paul Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 YEOVIL!!! Frigging Yeovil. When did this happen? I'm dumbstruck As a kid I remember reading about their exploits under Alec Stock, the Huish and its slope plus trying to get elected* to the league. I'm really struggling with the idea we are playing Yeovil in the league. They play Glad All Over when Yeovil score. * doubt many of you remember that system!

As a Soft Southerner I'm aware of Yeovil's 'journey' and I think they have achieved great things. For me, its a reminder that having "ideas above your station" in football is not a bad thing. That to meekly accept that your club has "found it's level" and shouldn't aim for anything higher is a trap. If Yeovil fans & staff had taken the view that "we are at the correct level for our size and finances" then they probably would never have made it into the football league, never mind reached the Championship. Good on them. Now if our club can get back to thinking ambitiously we can get back to the Premier League and make it our level again.
The Dart Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Cant help but wonder how significant that final game at home to Wigan will be, It'd be nice to send them down.
BlueWhiteDynamite Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 The last game against Yeovil - we were the 'Prestigious Team' despite being in the First Division. First Division Blackburn Rovers beat a Yeovil Town XI by 10-0 in front of 1,672 in Warren Patmore's Testimonial match at Huish Park this evening. Rovers goals were scored by Egil Ostenstadt (4), Craig Hignett (3), Dance, Douglas and Johnson. Yeovil used around 30 players on the night, including many players from the 96-97 ICIS League championship-winning team. More details on the game will be available tomorrow.

Also think its slightly rich making out its an embarassment for us to be playing Yeovil when attendance-wise we were the 9th smallest club in the Championship last season.
OJRovers Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 The Burnley game in Sept come set the tone for the first half of our season, win that and Bowyer could get off to a flyer...

I'm still annoyed at the way Southport were booted out in favour of Wigan when they finished 4th bottom and had been in the 3rd Division the season before.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 19, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted June 19, 2013 We've gone down one division, whereas Yeovil have had a meteoric, Wigan-esque (until a month or so ago) rise. Let's have a chill about opponents in one division below where we've been used to playing eh?

I wonder if anyone else on this board was? I know there's a few Rovers' based down in the SW (my former home). It was so embarrassing as Patmore is somewhat of a Yeovil legend but he couldn't even get a kick that night.December 21st is going to be some game for me. Defeat doesn't bear thinking about with my mates around.

No different to when we used to play Wimbledon, Cambridge United etc. It also works the other way, the non-league pyramid is full of teams I've seen us in the same division as.

Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted June 19, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted June 19, 2013 Payback time indeed v Wigan! Indeed. The breathtaking arrogance of their fans that night isn't easily forgotten.
